If I purchase say 200 points for BLT, can I in a few years sell say 100 of those points? Or does the resale have to be for the full amount of points I own?

You can only sell full contracts. The deed itself is restricted with verbiage that reserves the right to split up the interest in the property to Disney.

If you buy 200 points in two 100-point contracts, you can sell one of them later. That's a more complicated purchase, though. You'd probably be better off buying one 200-point contract, and if you feel like reducing your points later, buy a smaller contract and sell your existing one.

Alternative, you could just keep the existing contract and rent the points out that you don't want to use. Lots of options.

I agree with everything the pp said except your better off buying one contract. If you think you might sell part of your contract it would cost more to completely sell off one contract and than add a smaller contract. Plus your dealing with a much smaller resale market. Some people who want a 200 point contract might buy a couple 100 point contracts, but noone who wants a 100 point contract will buy a 200 point contract. Yes it will be more trouble on the front end, but having to sell everything and buy new could prove to be much harder and definitley more costly. If you never need or want to sell, the 200 point contract will cost less and be easier to obtain. Really your best decision is what you truly feel your needs will be 5, 10 or even 30 years from now.

I agree, if the OP knows their needs will shrink later, or feels there's a high likelihood they will. If it's more of a "just in case" situation, I think it's better to do the easier thing now, and pay the costs later if the "just in case" comes up. The extra costs to find two good contracts and pay the costs in time and fees to acquire them should only be paid if there's a reasonable chance of it making a difference in the future. Otherwise you might as well put off that payment until it actually happens, which might never occur.

Save money now, that's my motto. :)

By the way the OP worded the original question, I felt like they had a reason they may want or need to sell in a few years. The original question has me concerned. If it's just a general "what if?", I would buy the 200 point contract to save money. If it's an "I'm thinking about taking another job in another state and my needs would change and therefore would have to sell off about half my 200 points.", I would have a back up plan to quickly and easily get rid of some points. We all read into things that may or may not be there. At least I do. Makes for a good discussion.

As noted, you'd have to buy two 100 point contracts (or even smaller packages) to resell 100 later. I very much agree that it's better to buy 200 together for the cheaper price and smaller closing costs than to pay the extra as future insurance, you're looking at a difference in the range of $2-2.5K in this example. Even if i knew I had a current need and future smaller need, I would not buy to resell later but simply buy in between, say 150, and make do with borrowing for the current and have a few extra in the later years. The situations where it MIGHT make sense to buy multiple contracts around the same time purposefully would be for multiple home resort priority windows and in some cases to get part as cheaper points (say BLT plus SSR). Now someone looking at a much larger portfolio may be better served having multiple contracts but even then it'd vary with specifics. If you're an outlier, like the 1K & 2K VB packages from a number of years ago, you might be a little stuck if you had to sell at some point. VB is another example where it might be worth having multiple contracts for a WDW 11 month window and limiting the number of points at those higher dues.
