Does paying in fall affect when GTY cabin numbers are assigned?

I know every sailing could be treated differently-but generally from experienced DCL cruisers....Does paying in full get your GTY stateroom numbers assigned any sooner? We decided to go ahead and book two GTY cabins for an October sailing, but we would like the rooms fairly close together/next door to each other. The trip can be cancelled in full up until August, so we decided to book and cross our fingers. Is there any chance of our room #'s being assigned before August? AND is there anything that we can do to increase that possibility, such as paying in full??? We did not use a TA just direct through Disney so I do not know if that will make any difference at all.:confused3

No, you will not have any advantage. GTY assignments generally show up 30-45 days out from the cruise, although sometimes they've been as early as 60 days. I will point out that any guarantee reservation can be assigned at any time between original booking date up to, and including, embarkation day.

None of those factors will affect if your rooms are near each other or on different decks. GTY rooms are generally assigned around 4 weeks from the cruise date. A GTY means that you will accept any room you are assigned and it will be at least the category you booked. If you must have rooms near each other, you may want to look at a different category to see if there are specific rooms available to book.

But after the paid in full date might some cabins be cancelled and now be open for booking in the category I chose a GTY in? And then could I rebook to a specific cabin #?

hmmm.. that thought didn't cross my mind. I might be wrong but I don't think you can make any requests when booking a GTY. I spoke with a couple TA's who had the same advice I have been given here on the boards which is don't take the chance! But then I called Disney and they said the opposite. I was told that there are not that many cabins in the category I booked and that most people will be receiving an upgrade so I should take my chances. Now I am undecided!!

After the PIF date, if you rebook, you will most likely have cancellation fees due on the reservation you're changing. So, you'll wind up paying more.

BUT, I'm not sure of this.

Hmmm... :scratchin if you book a specific room, and wish to change the room in the same category(before PIF) I think that's OK. If you book a GTY and wish to select a room in the same category...... I think when a category goes GTY, they will not have specific rooms to offer. Even if someone cancels one. That's how they manage their inventory. Kinda like overbooking.

So you'd have to cancel your GTY (with penalties) and rebook a specific room in a different category that still has room numbers available to be selected.

How do you book at GTY room? I will admit am a newbie and we are in the planning stages but we do know that we will be on a cruise in March.

I just told my TA I wanted gty.

I knew I wanted a veranda and would be happy with the lowest cost veranda, 7A. But on the website when I tried to select my cabin number it wouldn't let me and said I could only book as GTY which guaranteed the rate and the saildate and the type of cabin.

You can't just book a GTY.....they have to be offered. GTY cabins are only offered when DCL sells a certain percentage of cabins in a particular category. Once that happens the category goes into GTY status. Anyone who wants to book a cabin in that category must book it as a GTY...sort of like overbooking. As mentioned you are "guaranteed (GTY)" to get at least that category and possibly a higher category (but not a lower category). These GTY cabins are the same price as a cabin that you get to select your room number.

The GTY cabins are a totally different animal than *GT categories like IGT, OGT and VGT. These are last minute discounted, highly restricted fares....not the same thing as a GTY booking.

No, once you book a GTY your reservation stays that way. You would have to cancel, pay the penalty and then book a specific stateroom.

I just told my TA I wanted gty.

If DCL hasn't sold the percentage of staterooms yet to change the category classification, you won't be able to book a GTY.
