Has anybody rented a car at the Vancouver airport and turned it in near the cruise terminal? How difficult is it to drive around the city and find parking?

We found it easy to get around the city. Everything is centrally located and we walked a lot. I would get a taxi from the airport to your hotel.

We have a car rented from the airport to take us into downtown Vancouver and plan to return it at the cruise termnal. We plan to keep it for a few days. Yes, we will need to pay for parking. Our hotel is charging $20 a night.

You probably won't get too much feedback about car rentals in Vancouver.
I've asked a couple different ways with just a few responses. Most of them responding about expensive parking and how easy it is to get around the city.

With a family of 5, and and really great deal on a rental, ($124.00) we are going with the car. To pay for public transportation for 5 of us for 3 days...it works out cheaper for us to have a car. We plan on going to Whistler, Stanley park and one of the suspension bridges, as well as markets and hopefully picking up some groceries.

I am with the previous poster, unless you want to go truly outside the city, I wouldn't rent a car. We paid less than $40 for a taxi from the airport to our downtown hotel, and not very much to the port at all. Vancouver is a great walking city. Busses are plentiful. There are tourist busses and water taxis. That being said, as we walked around, we noted how there isn't much traffic and a lot of parking.

We didn't bother with a rental car -- the buses seemed to be more plentiful than parking spaces. There's even a freebie shuttle to Capilano suspension bridge.

We booked a private car transfer to our hotel at the cruise port (Pan Pacific) from the airport, as a car is not needed to get around Vancouver itself, public transport is so easy.

Having said that, we wanted to go to Whistler for the day, so we hired a car for the day at the Pan Pacific, the rental office is right there in the hotel, with the cars downstairs in the car park. Could not have been easier, so if you want to pick up from the airport using the same rental company (Enterprise I think?), and drop it off at the Pan Pacific, should be easy enough.

A car really is not needed in Vancouver. The city is very walk able plus the sky train will get you from the airport to downtown. I spent three days in Vancouver last April before heading up to Whistler for some skiing and we parked the rental car at the Hotel the first morning and did not get back into it until we were heading out of town.

There is a kiosk outside of the Pan Pacific where you can get bus transportation/tour tickets to many locations around Vancouver. We went to Grouse Mountain for the day and it was very reasonable.
