If you couldn't change your reservation at seven months out, which one would you like to stay at?

Do you want to use fewer points for your stays? Do you want a Grand Villa at OKW? Buy OKW.

But the odds of OKW being available (other than the grand villa) at seven months are good.

Best advice is to only buy what you can use. You never know if DVC will change the rental policy.

Thanks for the advice. I wish they offer to extend BWV contract like they did OKW. I just want a contract that Expires closer to 2060.

Advantages of OKW (extended):

- lower buy in than BLT
- fewer points needed for equivalent stay
- huge rooms
- studios with two queen beds (if that is important)
- lowest point cost per room per night of any DVC resort
- GV's are an amazing value

Disadvantages of OKW:

- not connected to a theme park


Advantages of BLT:

- walk to MK
- 2 bath in the 1BR, 3 in the 2BR
- TOTWL
- all of the dining options around the monorail circuit
- premium location for the holidays (if your into that)
- standard view rooms for cost containment

Disadvantages of BLT:

- higher buy in cost
- highest point cost per room per night (until VGF opens)
- small pool
- can be noisy at night (water parade) and in AM (trains, boats, etc.)
- smallest studios of the DVC resorts


If you have the $$, BLT would probably be the best choice. Perhaps aside from getting a GV, OKW can be had at 7 months most of the year. BLT can be difficult at 7 months during more times of the year.

Personally i would buy BLT as we love it there. We have so far been lucky at 7 months and with waitlists but who knows if that will continue. We have 220 AKV and i fully wish we had bought 110 AKV, 110 BLT.

I did a cost analysis of the two resorts in question. To compare apples to apples I showed both ending in 2060. My conclusion is that there is little to no difference in the total cost of the two. I showed BLT MF increasing by 5% for the next five years than staying steady at 3% for the remainder of the contract. OKW MF I showed increasing at 3% for the whole time. Personally I think BLT is close to settling out, but for the sake of arguement I showed five more years before settling.

So choosing your home resort has to do with the benefit to you of being more likely to secure a reservation you want at that particular resort. You have to be the one to decide which resort you would prefer to stay, when, what size room, etc. But just thinking about the home resort booking advantage, this is worth less for OKW because you can usually get whatever room you want at the 7 month mark, while this is usually more challenging for BLT. Of course, if you never plan to stay at BLT, this has little value for you, personally.

Exactly. All the savings in the world don't mean a thing if you're sitting in your OKW room and hating it because you'd rather be staying at BLT. Of course, you need to be able to book at 11 months in advance to take advantage of the home resort booking window.

I like OKW a lot. I would consider buying more points there if we ever needed more. I like the sprawl of the resort, the individual buildings, easy parking, large rooms and 2 queen beds in the studio. Having the 2 queen beds is great, since no one has to sleep on a sleeper sofa.

We also like BLT, but I don't know if I'd ever consider it to be my ideal "home" resort. I love the room décor, kitchen, and bathroom. It's nice and new. You can walk to MK. But, we don't normally vacation just to be close to MK. We enjoy doing the Food and Wine Festival and other events, so we aren't focused on any one location. I like that we can bounce from resort to resort when needed, but predominantly we like OKW, it's our "go to" resort.

Since I am already a DVC memeber with contracts for BWV and SSR I decided to look at resale and just signed contract for 100 BLT points. Hopefully it passes ROFR and then I will put my 130 point SSR up for sale. I did all this number crunching and in the end decided I didn't need to have all the points I currently have (basically figured points needed for trips i want to take through 2018). So I will actually save some money on dues and also have a contract that expires in 2060 in lieu of 2054. No hopefully hey offer current BWV members an extension like they did for OKW so I can extend that past 2042.

I'll start by saying that BLT feels about as sterile as a hospital. The decor does nothing for me and the only reason I would consider staying there is because I can walk to the bus stop at the MK and easily access any other resort.

That being said, given the choice between purchasing at OKW and purchasing at BLT, I would purchase BLT. Why? Because the 11-month window is much more advantageous at BLT than at OKW (with the exception of GV's, which we don't need/want). We love OKW but when we decided on our purchase, we opted for our other favorite...AKV. We were only buying 100 points and the value rooms at AKV can help us stretch those points. We knew that the 1BR's at OKW can be had almost any time of year at the 7-month window, which is NOT the case with the 10 value 1BR's at AKV.
