Ddp question...

Hi all, wdw newbie here, we are planning a 7 night stay in May... When I run the numbers, wdw wants me to get an 8 day ticket, but because we are flying in from the west coast, arrival day is a bust, and I want a break day, plus 1 day we are doing the water park... So I've been plugging in a 6 day ticket with water park option... I understand that on our water park day, I can also go to a main park and burn one of my 6 days... Okay, on to my question... Is the dining plan tied to the amount of days you have on your ticket or the amount of nights you are staying?

6 days would be 1 cs and 1 ts per person per day or 12 per person total for the trip...

Or is it 7 nights or based on 8 days?? Which would obviously be more meals total...

It is based on the nights. So if you go for 7 days and 6 nights, it is on 6 nights.

Dining is connected to nights you are staying. We are there 7 nights but have park tickets for 5 days.

We're from the West Coast too. Sounds like you really only need a 5 day with the WPFM option. You'll have 5 days in the 4 main parks and 5 Water Parks and more options. Besides TL or BB you can also go to Disney Quest.

We usually do 4 park days, 2 water park days (sometimes 3) and 1 or 2 break days. Sometimes will do just a DQ day or do DQ on a break day.

You might also consider the PH option as well. It used to be $59 for WPFM and $59 for PH but now it's only $84 for both.

Since you are coming from the West Coast it'll be easier for you to stay up late than get up early. We take advantage of that when we go and do the EMH evenings.

Thanks, I am starting to figure this all out! 5 days in the parks and 1 day at a water park and 1 break day... Then we plan on visiting the dark side for a couple days... Excited to go see the world, but feel overwhelmed, since I can plan 6 days in the land in my sleep!

WDW can be over whelming compared to DLR. I think the main difference for a DLR veteran is the food. Eating is a huge deal at WDW. And since you can make your ADRs 180 days before your trip begins it does require advance planning.

That being said when we have used the regular DDP and done TS restaurants I always knew that we would not keep all the ADRs we made. Even during free DDP I never had a problem being able to get a ADR somewhere, sometimes even the same day. But I was flexible on the time of day, and sometimes on the location. Many times eating fairly late (which was fine for us). One think that works well for us is having a rental car. Then we can go to DTD or other resorts to eat.

Don't stress it too much just know that there's no way you are going to see it all and enjoy what you do do.

We (finally) visited the dark side last October. DD13 and I loved Harry's World. We had a great day there, though IOA is a lot of walking!

Just FYI, unless you're doing the deluxe plan, you do not get the appetizer as part of the regular dining plan. Entree, drink, dessert.

And you'll find a pretty even split on people who swear by having a rental car and people who love the Disney transportation system. It's really an added expense you might not need!

Okay, then I read something wrong! Thanks! What if we want an appy, can we pay for that OOP and still use our credits for dinner? I don't think we are going to do the deluxe... When I totaled up what I thought we'd spend OOP vs the cost of the deluxe, it doesn't work for us... Except for the convenience factor of having everything prepaid except the tips. I figure after we use all the regular dp credits, we'll have $360 OOP, to upgrade to the deluxe is double that... And you only get more snacks, and that isn't worth $300 to me.

Yes, anything you get that's not covered by the DP (appetizers & alcohol) can be paid for OOP.

I don't really like being on other people's timetable... At DLR I take a cab from the airport, so I don't have to wait on a shuttle to arrive or fill... And then we can walk the whole trip... So because of that I think I'd rather have a little economy car for our length of stay, so we can go where we want when we want
