Rides/attractions that you just don't "get"

For us, those Canal Boats- boring. Kids wanted off...lol.

We loved Soarin' - DD rode it six times in a row- no lines. DH, me, and my mom rotated who went with her

Matterhorn- it broke while we were on it. They had to come push us to the end. Not a good experience but we will ride it again as it has been refurbished now.

The parades- when I went in my 20's with a friend we scoffed at them. When I went three years ago with DH and DD (4) and DS (2) it was awesome to watch the parades. They danced the entire time for the Pixar Play Parade and we getting high fives and having CM's come dance with them. We did the DL parade on our last night in the park and it was the perfect way to end our trip. One CM fell in love with DS and took him out to dance and held his hand the entire time. We just watched the video the other day and it makes me cry- kids were so happy and entralled by the magic. I was grumpy for a lot of that last day and that moment reminded me to cherish every second because they do grow up so fast. People always chided us for taking our kids so young (first visit they were 2 and 4 months) but I will always always always remember their faces and how happy they were dancing and laughing in that parade

I was really disappointed with nemo. We went early and still had to wait and them once it was over I thought "That's it". I also am not a fan of Autopia.

Loved all the shows with the exception of "It's Tough to be a Bug". We came out with crying children and our's weren't alone in that. We saw others. If/when we go back, we will probably skipped that one.

The other one is the monorail - it always seems so hot and stuffy and takes a while to get you where you want to go.

Matterhorn tops my list. Rough ride! I've bumped my head more than once on the headrests when it stops or turns too quickly.

World of Color. I do not get the hype, and I think the Mufasa death scene seals the deal for me... no thanks

Submarines. Stuffy! It's a long ride, too.

There are also several rides that I think are fun but I won't wait in long lines: Indy, TSMM, RSR.

I never got the Orange Bee swings. I never could figure out what bees had to do with oranges. I'm glad they changed it to Silly Symphony.

I think because bees pollinate orange trees.

The thing I don't get is why Buzz Lightyear doesn't bring in many people, but TSMM has this crazy long line.

Wow, I totally disagree. DH and I think TSMM is a snooze compared to Buzz. TSMM is just a big video game, while Buzz puts you IN the game. Totally different experiences. After riding TSMM, I always think, "I waited 45 minutes for that? Really?"

Personally, I don't really mind any ride or attraction at DLR
We have done all of them many times over the years...
There are definitely some that are aimed at younger guests and some for older...but something for everyone...
and if you can suspend your "adultness" for just a bit, everyone can enjoy just about all of DLR.

I read this whole thread in one sitting! A lot of interesting replies although you can see a trend in a lot of rides or shows. For ME, most things I can at least tolerate but like everyone there is a breaking point somewhere. What I dont get:

-IASW: Im shocked not a single person mentioned this lol. The music alone drives me nuts. THAT said it has become more tolerable as I got older and into my 30s so I can tolerate it now. Its my mothers favorite ride however. Im pretty sure I was adopted lol.

-Tiki Room...yeah!

-Subs: Never loved it in its original form not a huge fan as Nemo. The concept is cool though.

-Grizzly: I just dont like the idea of being dunked in water even on hot days. I been to DCA over 50 times since opening...I been on this twice.

-Autopia: Liked it for awhile...and then I turned 10.

-Canoes: Yeah I hate working at DL lol.

-Peter Pan: Its a novel ride but not for anything longer than a 20 min wait and its rarely that low.

-Luigis: This is not a huge shock, this ride was already getting panned at opening. Its a bit of fun if you can get your tire going but not something more than a 15-20 min wait tops.

-Dumbo: Being a full grown man now not a huge shock lol. But even when I was 4 I didnt see the point.

-Canal Boats: Yeah I think Ive done it 3 times my entire life.

-Captain EO: LOVED IT...in the 80s. Now its just an embarrrasement. Ok, we know why it was brought back, but its time to drum Eo out of the corp.

I think thats it really. And EXCEPT freakin Dumbo I can still do them but if its just me you catch me dead on any of these (or maybe you would. Im dead how would I know lol).

I like that most of the rides are there. That doesn't mean I *personally* like them all, but since I know each one has its fans I'm ok with letting them live

I have friends and family that love certain rides that I'm not really into so I just adjust my vision to a new perspective. For instance, in my mind Winnie the Pooh becomes Pooh's Acid Trip (what is WITH that whole heffalump thing???) and it gives me a secret giggle to go through it. It's funny what you can enjoy when you let go of some of the automatic dislike and try to see it in a different way. Ok, I admit that's a little unfair to poor Winnie but it wasn't his fault. Someone spiked the honey pot.

We are not fans of Luigis, Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Roger Rabbit.

They are rides we queued for and would not go on again, even if there was no line up at all.

Funny how people have different perspectives. Buzz is just like the Fronteirland shooting gallery, but in motion with more lights...just shooting at various circles. TSMM is unlike any video game I've ever played. In fact, they have TSMM game on the Wii and I've played it and of course it has none of the excitement of the ride. The ride, with the 3D and the effects (wind blowing your hair when a rocket blows past you) is more interactive than Buzz.

I can barely stand Buzz anymore. I think the lasers don't work very well. My score goes down every time Now TSMM is a blast (even never advancing past Beaver)

Interesting viewpoints everyone has made up to this point. Im assuming the majority who have posted here live close to DL who have the luxury of being able to go a lot. For me, we live in Oklahoma so we have to make trips out there. Not likes its stopped us lol. I appreciate all the rides. Everything from the Tiki Room to Carsland Racers. When we go, we ride everything we can at least once. We see every parade and every show because its part of Disney. I was taught this when I was young and my mom took me there a few times.

Why?

Disneyland is where memories are made, not an amusement park of big rides. We had a 10year family reunion this year at DL over memorial day weekend and my sister in law had never been to DL. On her last day while we waited for WoC she said to me, "I just dont get DL and why you all love it so much." She loves Cedar Point/Six Flags. I said DL is like an expensive 7 course dinner while places like Cedar Point or Six Flags is like a steak house. With DL you just dont go for the food but the environment. You dont just swallow your food ask for the check and go home. You take your time and enjoy it all. A steak house, while great, is go in, order, eat and leave. After the WoC, she had tears in her eyes and looked at me and said "I get it now, its memories".

I want my kids to ride every ride because you never know which ride/show will be taken away. My kids were lucky enough to see Disney Electrical parade at WDW. Although its not Main Streets, they got to see it. It sucks that there are sooooo many people who never saw that parade. Or Pocahotas's stage show, Hunchbacks stage show etc....I remember those. When my kids grow up and have their own kids Captain Eo will probably be gone, Nemos subs and who knows what else BUT they will be able to tell their kids about memories of riding that when they were young. So after saying all that, we ride everything and see everything because its Disney and Walt himself touch such rides as PoTC, Tiki, Matterhorn etc.....

It's a "4D" presentation (like Captain Eo, It's Tough to Be a Bug, etc.), so it has a lot of "gotcha" moments that go beyond the movie. (Moving props dropping in from the ceiling--or popping up, ahem, closer nearby.) It's a lot of fun once you know what's coming. The first time I can see some kids being unnerved by it. (Some adults, too, depending on how much you like or don't like surprises.)

DLR's is so much better then Magic Kingdom's, too. There's a nice, *quiet* queue at Disneyland. MK has super-loud "activities" for kids waiting in line (a *drumming station*? really WDW?) that will drive adults our of their minds if the line is long. You can't escape the noise until you get on the ride. It's totally sucky. I never appreciated Disneyland's WtP ride more until I stood in that awful MK line. (I'd actually call it the worst show experience I've ever had at a Disney park.)

I think growing up going to DL I really like everything. The one thing I haven't been on in years is the canoes. My kids are 3 and 5 and I don't plan on trying those until they are older and won't soak everyone sitting near them! LOL.

I LOVE the Tiki Room. It was my sons first ride ever when he was 10 months, mainly because he LOVES the song (and still does). We still go at least once a trip. My boys just love it.

As an adult, I don't see the point of Autopia.......but it's for the kids! Don't you remember how exciting it was as a kid to be able to drive? Even on a track, just to be given full control of the car? It cracks me up taking my kids on Autopia. We have some hilarious videos of my boys and they have a smile on their face the entire time. (although it sometimes feels like a rougher ride then the Matterhorn because we constantly hit the track, haha)

Innoventions. Haven't been in there in years! And don't plan on going anytime soon..........hoping they revitalize TL soon.

I guess my mind changed a lot when I had kids. Attractions I thought I had no interest in anymore became favorites again.
