Having to cancel 20th anniversary trip

We are so disappointed. We are having to cancel our 20th anniversary Disney trip this weekend. This week I found out that I have been diagnosed with Systemic Lupus and hypothyroidism. I am in the military and was scheduled to be PCSing to a different base. Our house is for sale and we are going to settlement in less than a month. They have delayed my orders which means, we will have to figure out where we are living while we wait. Plus our son is getting ready to graduate and is headed to college down south in Aug. So much going on. We had been planning this trip for the last year and had finally made all reservations. We had everything planned down to the last detail. We're trying to keep a positive attitude, but I'll be honest, it's hard. I have no idea what will come of all of this, but in the mean time we will continue reading on the DIS and living through your trips.

That is incredibly disappointing. :(. I'm sorry you guys are going through so much and have to cancel. Hopefully, you can sort through the bigger things (get the house sold, move, get some good medical treatment to get the Lupus under control). Then you can plan a new trip when things are more settled. I hope that is soon! Good luck!

Bummer. So, why exactly are you cancelling the trip?
Yeah...orders changing can be frustrating, but that doesn't have an effect on your pay? MEBs take forever, in my experience...

We've been in a similar situation for the past few years...military limbo that is...and ultimately we should have postponed less and lived our lives more.

I would probably try to make the trip as budget conscious as possible (just in case) but I would probably still go.

Obviously, it's your choice, but you planned the trip for a reason, and Disney is always less expensive now than it will be in the future.

Right now my orders were pushed back and my new school date is when we have reservations. :-/ Of course the orders could change yet again until they get things under control.

I agree with danceintherain... It was my first thought: Why cancel? Life is short, enjoy it as often as you can!

Good Luck and God Speed!:hourglass

Oh! I DO know what you are going through  as someone that has battled cancer since 2005. It would go into remission and appear in another part of my body after several years, and this last time during our 20th anniversary, which was last year, we made the mistake of going. Man, I ended up staying in bed at the resort the whole time!
So you are wise to cancel this trip and go when you are better and stronger.

I just can't give you enough (((HUGS)))) as I just went into a lurking mode here on the DIS when I wasn't going and got some joy out of others planning their trips and even starting buying disney purses and other stuff just to get me through my sugeries etc.

I have been declared cancer-free, but I hate it when they do that. I know I have to keep going back and getting tested and I know sooner or later it might show up somewhere else like it has for the last 8 years. But, meanwhile, I keep on trucking with a smile and planning trips! Even if I don;t end up taking them!
:grouphug:
There is alot of folks here to give you the support you need. I'm glad your reaching out! :)
God Bless you and your family!

Another note....when I was in my remissions, I went to WDW like a madwomen!
Just like this year! 1 time already, 1 in less than a week, and another planned for F&W. So, it'll happen! Just give it time!

I really wish it was that easy to not have to cancel. Life really is to short and I completely agree enjoy it while you can! Just for timing sake, it just isn't possible to keep this exact trip planned.

We know we will reschedule the trip when we can go. It's just hard having to wait it out while we wait for everything else to come together. In the mean time, we will just continue to live through everyone else. ;)

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so sorry that you have had to deal with cancer. We have had to deal with that in our family and it has been very hard. You have such a great outlook on life. I pray that you remain cancer free!

This is us too. We have had to reschedule for 2 years so far and may be looking at a third. It really stinks. We can't even do a dummies down cheapie trip. So I have been living through this board. But I know this to shall pass

Oh, honey! Thank you for your kind words! We went almost 3 years during our longest dry spell. And yes, it stinks! So, you wouldn't be alone. I'm going to pray that you all will make a trip this year! A little belated, but it'll still be special! :goodvibes

Thank you for your prayers. I'm praying for you too I hope the cancer is truly gone!!
You sound like a strong person and will prevail. Many blessing for you and your family

Here's hoping you find some comfort on the disboards. We all regret having to postpone things from time to time when other things seem to get in the way of a really great thing.

But you will get through it and Disney will be there waiting for you.

So sorry to hear about all your troubles, I hope things sort themselves out soon as not knowing can be incredibly stressful.

I have Lupus, and while it is not fun it can be manageable and still allow you to live your life on your own terms. I found that I had to make a few changes to still manage WDW but I still go and have a great time.

:grouphug: so sorry. When is the trip booked for? I would wait till just before my 45 day to cancel. You never know. Best of luck to you and your family.
I have a close friend living with Lupus. She does quite well.

Hang in there...my adult niece has lived with lupus for a very long time & while some days are better than others, she'd be the first one to tell you to keep your chin up. She loves Disney and goes every year....she just tours a little differently & takes more breaks. Sending along hugs.n

Thank you everyone for your very kind words of hope. Today I have an EKG on my heart and an ultrasound of my neck. Praying all goes well. For now I will be taking each day as it comes and what may come with it. We will get to Disney, it will just be delayed. For now we will just live through all of you!
