Transfers from Long Beach port to Disneyland

I am thinking of taking the Vancouver to LA repo cruise in Sept.

I called DCL and they do not offer transfers from the port to DLR.

I called Super Shuttle and they do offer it, but it's $50 one way!!

Any other cheaper suggestions? How far is DLR from LB port? Driving is not really an option because I always get lost.

I live in Long Beach. If you're not traveling in rush-hour morning or afternoon traffic, it's probably about a 30 to 45 minute ride from the port to Disneyland. I don't think $50 sounds unreasonable.

But is it the port of Long Beach or San Pedro? I'm guessing it's San Pedro. I've never seen a DCL ship port in LB, only Carnival. But there may be some special arrangement since this is a repo cruise.

We are staying on the Queen Mary for a week and plan on hitting DL Wed, Thurs and maybe Friday. What time should we head out to be there for opening? Assuming opening is 9am. We are renting a car so we can hit LA, drive the coast, etc so we'll be parking at DL parking lot. What should we hit in Long Beach?

To tell you the truth I have no idea which port the ship docs in. It just says LA so I guessed at Long Beach. Is San Perdo closer or further way from DLR?

It's 99% likely that it's San Pedro. It's a little further out than Long Beach, but only by about 10 minutes. When we sailed DCL from LA to Mexico, it was out of San Pedro.

It's 31-36 miles from port to DL depending on which route you take. According to Google Maps they say it would take an average of about 35 minutes. So with some traffic, I would allow about 45 minutes via shuttle or cab ride. (Hint: If you take the route that goes from the 710 FWY North to 91 FWY East, you will hit the carpool or HOV lane on the 91-E which will save some time if there's heavy traffic.) From the 91-E, you get on the 5 FWY South and there is a direct-from-carpool-lane exit onto Disneyland Drive.

You'll love the Queen Mary. She's beautiful! I haven't been on the ship in years, but she's a grand old ship and a symbol of my hometown that I have visited throughout my life.

The QM is nestled next to downtown LB where there is a lot to do within walking distance. There is the nearby Pike Shopping and Dining center, with restaurants like PF Chang's, Outback Steakhouse, Gladstones (awesome seafood) and another Japanese and BBQ restaurant that I'm unfamiliar with. next to that is the Aquarium of the Pacific which is a beautiful aquarium. There is a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant next to the Aquarium.

If you cross the main street (Ocean Blvd.) to go a little further into Downtown LB, there are a bunch of great bars, restaurants, shops, a Laugh Factory, and a movie theater or two.

If you are leaving the QM to get to DL by opening at 8am on a weekday, you will need to leave early since there will be morning commute traffic. (See my post above about which freeway route would give you access to the carpool lane for quickest access.) I would leave no later than 6:30 am. That will give you time to get there, park in the Mickey & Friends parking structure, take the 3-5 minute tram ride to the Downtown Disney/front park entrance, and wait for the opening ceremonies. If you want to really play it safe and make sure you get a good spot at the gate, leave at 6:00 am and take some coffee and breakfast with you to eat while you're waiting for the opening. (I don't think there's anywhere to buy coffee/food once you park until you're within DL gates after opening, so grab something before you head into the parking structure.) Better to be early and wait, then late and miss something.

We are super excited to stay on the QM and I haven't been to DL since it was just DL no DTD/CA and dh and my mom have never been to any of the parks so it should be alot of fun. We are sooo not early risers, maybe we'll aim for lunch time entry and staying late rather than rope drop (we tend to enter WDW around 10ish and stay for close). I know dh and I could manage to get out the door on time, but my mom is a whole other story, lol.

As to DCL, is it going to be sailing from there in 2014? We want to do a DCL trip and found oddly that flights from Philly to LA are cheaper than Philly to Orlando on average right now.

Yeah, good idea to beat traffic and opening rope drop crowds and just go a little later. Then stay late.

I don't know about 2014 itineraries departing from LA. You'd have to look those up. I might want to, too... hmmmm?

DCL is sailing out of San Diego 2 times in May 2014 (2 night cruise to nowhere, and 5 night repo to Vancouver). And a 4 night Vanc-SD, plus a 14 night PC SD-Port Canaveral in September.

As to DCL, is it going to be sailing from there in 2014? DCL will not be cruising, in or out, of Los Angeles in 2014. And the port of LA is actually in San Pedro, at the Cruise Line Terminal. There are numerous shuttle companies, just call around for quotes from Cruise Line Terminal to Disneyland. A few to try are: Execucar, Karmel, Super Shuttle, Prime Time, and I'm sure you can find many more. I'm currently booked on the Van to LA repo, which is a short (too short!) 5 night cruise. But it's the last DCL into LA and I'm within half hour of the port. My last chance to be on the ship.
