Booking 2 Dates Onboard

With all the changes to re-booking rules, I thought I'd make sure I'm right....(forgive me if this has been asked a million times; my search isn't finding it)

We sail Saturday, and I was hoping to re-book two different sailings while on board....one "real" date we plan on actually doing; and another as a dummy. I'm out of luck, though, right? We can only re-book one date for the onboard booking perks

You can book 2 different sail dates while onboard, but only 1 will receive the full OBB benefits (10% discount, 10% deposit + OBC). I think (not certain) that the 2nd would still receive the appropriate OBC ($200 for 7+ nights, $100 for shorter).

On our last cruise we wanted to book 2 with the same plans as OP and we were told that only one would receive the 10%, OBC and 10% deposit. The second would not receive the offer or the on board credit, so you might want to check that out. For the second we would have gotten $25 OBC as if done online.

The CM you talked to was incorrect. Here is the wording directly from the booklet they have at the rebooking desk.

"Offer valid for Categories 4-11 only. Offer not valid for concierge level categories, 2-night cruises, IGT, OGT and VGT Categories with Restrictions, or Disney Fantasy maiden voyage. All staterooms must be booked and deposit paid while onboard. Special cruises have separate cancellation and deposit policies. Other discounts do not apply. This offer is limited to two staterooms on one future cruise date [per household sailing]. Any additional staterooms on the date booked onboard will only receive the onboard credit portion of the offer. Additional sail dates can be booked onboard at the current prevailing rates. See disneycruise.com for applicable terms and conditions."

The CM you talked to was incorrect. Here is the wording directly from the booklet they have at the rebooking desk.

I read that policy quote as saying that if you book an additional room for the same sailing as the first, THAT would receive only the OBC. But if you're booking different sail dates (a la the OP), only the first booking gets the discounts and OBC. The other is just a standard booking.

Yes, this is exactly what we were told by the CM at the future cruise desk. We had already booked one cruise and received the benefits but asked about booking a different cruise and he said their were no benefits to booking it onboard. Of course, this particular CM also didn't bother to mention that he was including gratuities in the quote he had given me either.

One thing that is frustrating about DCL is that different CMs will often tell you different things. On occasion, they will also DO different things! We were on the Fantasy in March and I visited the Future Cruise Desk twice and booked two different cruises. The first time, I was re-shopping a 2014 Med cruise that I had booked online on opening day (more than 30 days before I sailed). The CM at the Future Cruise Desk modified my existing booking so I would get 10% off the lower, opening day rate and $200 OBC. She also let me designate a TA at that time. I was surprised on both counts as I was fully expecting to have to make a new reservation.

I visited the Future Cruise Desk again later in the week and worked with the same CM. This time I was booking a Fantasy cruise for spring break 2014 as a "backup cruise." I did not get the 10% discount, but I did only have to pay a 10% deposit and I was given the $200 OBC. I pulled the official DCL confirmation out of my file cabinet to double check! The cruise fare was $4,991.00 and we were charged a deposit of $499.10. The OBC is noted as well, although the dollar amount is not there (typical DCL, I think).

It's disconcerting to think that the CMs have the ability to apply or not apply the rules at their discretion!

What about booking on back to back cruises? We are sailing the Dream in September on B2B cruises. Can we book one dummy date and get the benefits while on the first leg and then book another dummy date on the second leg? Or is it one per person regardless?

As DCL regards B2B cruises 2 separate cruises, I'd hazard a guess that you could do it.

But, apparently, the CMs manning the desk kind of play by their own rules, regardless of what the rules are.

That's kind of what I figured! Sounds like too good of a deal to pass up so we will try our luck come September!

I had to do some talking, but was finally able to get a CM to let me separate my two reservations and book two futures cruises with benefits. At first, they were trying to combine them and tell me I could only do one date. I didn't understand because in all other senses, they view everything separately. If I'm paying for 2 cabins separately, shouldn't I be able to do something from each cabin separately? It's ultimately more money for them.

Lisa, thanks. I was going to post that I knew others had been able to confirm this is in fact what they were able to do. This shows that it is. possible and the CM the previous poster spoke with didn't understand the policy. One cruise there was a new CM doing OBBs on the Magic & he didn't know what he was talking about. I had a dummy date already so just moved it to the Fantasy MV after we returned home. He swore up and down that we would get absolutely nothing for the MV by booking onboard. What he didn't get was the commission for booking our cruise. I knew that we would get the OBC...and we did.

The policy states per address. It is what it is and the CM shouldn't have made this exception. Many families book two staterooms -- which is why it allows you to book two staterooms for the same date. -- And before someone says this was pixie dust I say that this only creates problems for the OBB CMs in the future -- just like at Shutters when someone pressures them into getting two unrelated staterooms on one CD. It is posted here on the DIS, lots of people read about the experience and think well if that person got it then I deserve it too, they go on a cruise and have a fit when hey are told no and insist that they read about someone who had it happen for them. DCL needs to train their OBB CMs better so there is consistency...just like they should really train the CMs who answer the phone better so you don't get three different answers when you call three times and talk to three different CMs.

We have done this scenario twice in the last 18 months, once on the Dream and once on the Wonder. We book two staterooms for one dummy date. One with my wife as the occupant, one with me as the occupant. We pay a little higher deposit because of the single supplement but it still always works out to less than $100 dollars per room deposit. These are listed as separate reservations. Still within the rules for the OBB benefits, because it is only two rooms on one date.

Because they are separate reservations, I can now move these to whatever dates I choose and add the other person to each ressie, different dates for each, and keep the OBB benefits for both.

The people at the Future Cruise desks never say anything about it, They just book the cheapest dummy date with two separate reservations and we are done.

OK. So another scenario. My mom and me are doing a cruise coming up. We are sharing a room. We want to book a family cruise in 2015 while on board (and yes, the dates will be out by then).

How is this done. Do we EACH get to make a booking with discounts? OR is it 1 discount booking PER room? We have different addresses, as I don't live with my parents anymore.
