Warning - Media and Gov talking dollar down!

Just been reading about our poor dollar, and it looks to me that a combined effort of Gov policy and media are going to cause it to get pummelled. some predicting it will be around 93c by July this year !! that's scary, that means and exchange rate of 88c.

If you have any spare travelling cash, may be a good idea to convert now. :confused3

The same thing seems to be happening to the NZ dollar.
I feel selfish feeling annoyed as it's great news for NZ exporters. I just wish I had everything paid off.

We go next week and I haven't changed our money yet! Not happy about this! Trust it to go down just as our trip begins  :headache:

I haven't changed any money for my trip in August yet and have watched the dollar fall, hoping and praying it would go back up, but nope keeps going down.

Might go order my cash next week before it drops any lower

We got used to being equal so it starts to hurt when it get to the 90's. we're not traveling anytime time soon but still want to lock in some US cash for the future. The media have been relentless in pushing it down each day.

I just bought a travel card an dumped most of my savings on it this afternoon. I figure I will hedge my bets by having it locked in. I honestly think its going to keep coming down now :(

Lewdannie, my last trip (12 yrs ago) the dollar was 48c - it was terrible! In starting to think the US doesn't like me visiting! By the end of next year it will probably be awful!

Bad news, the dollar keeps coming down, lost another 2c today and media is backing it to drop to to 95c in the next week or so, making the exchange rate close to 90c. :crazy2:

Eek! Glad we got our travel card earlier this week, but we'll need to convert some more money yet :(

I'm hopeful that it won't drop too much before September 2014 ;) But I think we have been spoiled with such a great exchange rate for a couple of years - it's been good while it lasted :goodvibes Hopefully we're past the days of REALLY low exchange rates for good though!

i've heard reports it might be back up to parity by the end of the year.

...

we shall see.

to be honest, while the media plays a role, i think it has more to do with foreign investment on a macro-economic scale and the movements in asia and the usa, so will be keeping a close eye on it in the coming months...

besides, i budget our trips around an exchange rate of 90c anyway, so i'm quietly confident it should creep back up a little in the coming months...

We are not going until December, so I am unsure of what to do. I am hoping that after the election in September it will start to move up again. Am I just hopeful?

This year we have taken advantage of the great cancellation policies in the USA and have booked afew options of hotels. So I have not prepaid. :sad2:

I am debating whether to go and get some cash...

What are you guys doing?

I'm going in Dec as well but have decided to wait a little longer before getting our cash or paying for our WDW package.

Whether it's the right decision, only time will tell...

The prediction I got at work today from the money market guys was it looks like a steady decline to 92c in December. Due to cash flow dramas I've only started exchanging mine this week, but I've always said anything over 90c is a bonus so I'm not too upset about the drop.

My trip is September so I started to move some of my funds into US dollars yesterday (not everything I'm kind of sitting of the fence) and I paid for all my big ticket items this week.
Who knows if it will be right or wrong but the Aussie elections will not effect my trip as we leave the week after it.

:( I haven't but I really ought to. Darn this on-call casual work nonsense that isn't playing nice with me this year :(
