ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: September 2012

Staying 9 nights total for our 1st WDW visit (DH, DD, DS & me). Currently booked for all 9 in a family suite @ AoA. I'm now wanting to stay 4 or 5 nights @ the Poly before checking in @ AoA. Am I crazy for thinking this is a good idea? Just thinking that the room (suite) will be a space upgrade so we won't miss the amenities @ Poly?

Also, in order of priority, we would like a location that is reasonably close to TTC, pool, and GCH so I'm thinking of requesting Tokelau, Raratonga or Niue. We would also like a balcony or patio in a room that's already been through the renovation. Am I on the right track?

Thanks for any advice!!

I agree with the others that I would do AoA first and then go to the Poly. The AoA suite would provide more room, but I think you would miss the amenities going from a deluxe to a value. As far as requesting a longhouse, we loved Samoa as it was in a great location and very convenient to the GCH, volcano pool, beach, and Captain Cooks. As the pp mentioned, it is a little bit farther from the TTC, but not by much.

Thank you so much for the advice! That's exactly why I posted on here. Going to rearrange things a bit, putting 3 or 4 nights AoA suite 1st, then move on to Poly.

If anyone has done a split stay (at a busy time), would it be better to do it on a Friday or a Saturday, or does it not really matter? Kind of thinking front desk areas might be more crowded on Saturdays?

Thank you all so much for sharing!!!

I think leaving a Deluxe for a Value would be a hugely disappointing shock to the system. If I had to split the two, I'd do it the other way around.

Yep, I agree with this!! If you do a split stay between a value and deluxe resort, it's best to stay at the value resort first and then stay at the deluxe resort. My DH and I have stayed at value, moderate, and deluxe. I will warn you, once you stay at deluxe you may not want to stay at the value or moderate resorts anymore....that's my problem, hehe.

Just booked the Poly yesterday for a last minute July trip! :goodvibes We got an AMAZING deal with the AP rate! ::yes:: It was so good I think it must have been an error on the website! :rotfl: Can't wait!!!! :beach:

I would make the move on a Friday. So many people vacation Sat-Sat making baggage services more hectic on those days.

What is the AP deal? Thanks!

I'm not who you asked, but I can tell you that we got a 35% off room rate for the first three nights of our August stay (8/13-8/16). The second half of August doesn't have an AP rate released yet...

Just got back from a 10 day stay at the AoA and set up our anniversary trip with the BB offer... 35% off I believe.... TPV for the last week in Aug. We requested Tuvalu third floor. *fingers crossed* We got to walk around the grounds a bit last week when we were there for Ohana breakfast and it was just beautiful. Can't wait.

We booked for late October. I request Tokeleu rooms (sp)

Questions:

1) I don't want to stay on ground level...freaks me out a bit...does this longhouse have balconies? I have read the descriptions and I get confused on how many floors there actually are and which have balconies.

2) Viewing the fireworks on the beach...is there seating? I have a grandma with me ;)

Thanks! My only disappointment is we have been to Disney three other times. Each time we have eaten at ohana's one of our favourites. This time we are staying on property and at 180+10 days I couldn't get a reservation at Ohanas for our arrival day (saturday). I won't give up but the irony!!!

That's a great discount and TPV, my dream view!! :) You will love staying at the Poly and it will be a great anniversary trip!!! My DH and I have been planning our vacations around our anniversary for the past 3 years and love it!

1) According to Tikimans website Tokelau has balconies on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Sounds like it's also a great location! I would call and put in a request for a 2nd or 3rd floor room.

2) There is seating on the beach at Poly but it's not guaranteed. We arrive about 30 mins early to the beach and we have not had a problem getting a seat.

That is ironic that you can't get a reservation at Ohana and you're actually staying there this time!! Keep checking, hopefully something will open up. Or, you could eat at Kona the day you arrive and save Ohana for a different day.

What kind of room should I request if I want a room that is quieter in the late mornings?

This trip will be for me and my Aunt (I'm in my late 30's, she in her 50s). So we do want a room with 2 Queens, instead of one King bed. I will be running the TOT 10 miler, with an after party that goes until 4:00 am--so after we return from that we will want to sleep in, probably 'till at least 10 or 11 am.

Other than that, I don't think we're too picky. I really don't care much what the view is like or anything. I got the room with the Run Disney discount--so it is a "standard view" and I'm guessing that people with a Run Disney discount would probably get the least "choice" rooms available?

Any thoughts on a particular building I should request, or certain words to use to describe what I am looking for (quiet in the mornings)? I am thinking something further away from the pool would be best, for quiet.
Thanks!

Thanks!

For a quiet room, I am thinking Rapa Nui....specifically the side facing North. It is away from the pools, the marina, the lagoon (boat horns!), and opposite the monorail/parking lot. There is enough distance and landscaping to mask any noise from the TTC

Thanks! The only thing about Rapa Nui--it is the last building scheduled for renovation, and according to Tikiman's site, the estimated completion is October 4--which is the day we are checking in! I'm thinking if they fall even a little bit behind, Rapa Nui will not be available. :(
