We arrived home last night and wanted to tell you all about the Luau. IT was fantastic.
We have been there quite a few times and we always enjoy the fun and the food there..
We were seated in Tier one...it was dead center and had a good view of the stage and the performers..BUT I think that all the tiers have a good view ..
We started off with delicious pineapple coconut bread. My favorite ..there was a long tray of different salads. I stuck with the greens and Mango dressing. They changed the rice dish. It was sticky white rice with a sweet dressing. It was not high on our list of likes...Our server was Wally and he was amazing. He told us that the new rice dish was not being liked very much. They weigh each portion going back to see how much is being consumed.,...not much at our table. We all did try it though. The chicken was delicious. Moist and such a good flavor....Pulled pork was devoured as were the pork ribs. Long green beans and sliced carrots with little corn was also on that dish....White and red wine and beer also were served. Before I could say ..NO THANK YOU there was another one sitting at our plate. Wally the server took plenty of time with us and when he found out that we were from "THE DIS"...he immediately went out and got the chef...he has been the head chef there for 15 years. We told him that we have been going to the LUAU off and on for the last 20 years. We talked about the new things added and he said to keep him informed of what the DIS said...
Very pleased to have this chance to talk to the head chef. I did see him go to a few tables to talk about special options...
The new dessert was delicious...very sweet but just the same delicious...it was a type of bread pudding with caramel sauce and sliced fruit...a few bites for us all to try.
BUT the performers and the singing and the Island dancers were fantastic. The Flame dancer was outstanding. He acts like a goof ball at the beginning of the show but he was a great performer and the best I have seen doing the flame dancing.
We enjoyed our experience there...if any questions please YELL

We are going to the Luau Saturday! We have been there so many times, I've lost count!

No more volcano for dessert?! :guilty:

We went last year for the first time and it was fab! We loved the volcano dessert. In fact all of the food was great and the show was too. Not sure we would return in the near future, we are doing Hoop this year and have done BYBBQ also so we'll be able to tell what our fave is after Hoop!!

Have a great trip Tinkgurl....the night was amazing ..we went to the 8 O clock show as the Tables in Wonderland Card only is available on that one..

the food on your review arent there any more...small individual rolls, four different types of salads, I did prefer the old type of rice then the white sticky rice, The food was very good and plenty of it...Rain would put a damper on the show as well as the serving ..We had a great time ...we have been probably 8 or so times with different members of our family.

I LOVE the luau! Glad to hear of the good changes to the food! Sadly, DH doesn't want to do the luau this year since we just did it two years in a row. The first year was the best, last year we had massive rain/chaos like sephorachick had. Not so much fun. But because I know how great it is when it isn't raining, I would still go back. I would just keep a good eye on the weather, and if there is any threat of a storm, I would probably cancel. But it's more likely we would get good weather in which case it's just wonderful! Kind of bummed to miss it this year... :(

OMG I could hug you right now! Hubby and I had a good experience back in October on our teen less trip. I really wanted to do it again this trip, booked OOP for category 1 this time as we sat category 3 last time and i had a pillar blocking my view. We thoroughly enjoyed the old menu with the ribs and roasted chicken, so when they changed the menu back in December I was up set, 16YO is a rib eater, would not touch any type of potato salad. So if I understand correctly, there's now roast chicken, pulled pork and ribs, the green salad is like the old one and the dessert is now a bread pudding?:worship: Is there a new menu posted anywhere reflecting this?

I have looked on a few other sites and I cant find the same menu we had at the Luau...
I loved the chicken the best, my husband and grandson in law (almost) loved the ribs and pulled pork..
MY other favorite was the bread...I could of made a meal just in that and one of the salads...
We really enjoyed it..

I didnt care for the volcano mousse...but this bread pudding yummy

When we dined there it was some type of volcano lava cake with raspberry sauce, merely meh. Anything had to be better! I really enjoyed the chicken as well, the server actually brought me another plate of salad, lol and I think I ate all of it! The thought of Hawaiian potato salad had me worried, as I mentioned, younger daughter would have skipped that entirely whereas she would eat a salad dressed with a vinaigrette all day long!

awesome, I'll try to copy it!

when we went to the Luau two years ago...Our grandkids were 4 and 6...and the wait staff that was there asked if they would like to have a hot dog, mac and cheese or chicken nuggets also...this was very nice and the kids ate the hot dog and all of the regular luau food on the table...they loved being able to have a special meal for them too..

SOOOO glad I came across your review!! We had one free night left on our June trip and my husband suggested the Luau. That's BIG for him - he usually stays silent while I do all the planning. So, we did it. He kind of choked at the price tag for the 4 of us, but after reading your review, I think we will really enjoy it. We haven't been in 20 years and our kids (9 and 12) have never been. Should be a great time for us!!

Would you suggest the luau for a 5 and 9 year old? Debating if we will add this as an ADR for our trip next year. My parents want to go, but I am not sure yet if I want to join.

there were a lot of young children there when we dined (early show). The servers were good about alternate food as well if the little ones didn't want what was on the menu.

Glad you had another great time at the luau :). We did the luau in 2007 and loved it. We had a great time and thought the food was great. We are looking forward to going again on a future trip :goodvibes.

We are also going to the Luau on our trip in 9 days. DH and I have been before for our 20th anniversary vow renewal trip but my kids have not. This will be our 30th anniversary and birthday trip. The kids are very excited to be going. They are 19 and 15. When they asked us if they did anything for special occasions and we said yes they make you get up on stage both my kids said "We are totally ratting you two out!" I too choked a bit at the price for tier one four adults but then heard about the Tables in Wonderland Card. We just changed it to the later show on a different night and will get almost the cost of one ticket back.

that's great! We had four Disney adults in tier 1 and were almost dead center right at the front. The new menus is really good now, hope you have a great time!!

Thanks for the review. It has been at least 10 years since we did the Luau, so maybe we will have to do it again someday.
