Complicated situation

We used DDP on our trip last year and loved the convenience of it. However, DS(8 at the time) was absolutely miserable with the kids' menus... he has a big appetite and loves trying new foods. Paying OOP really never entered my mind, so I booked him as a 10 year old so that he could order whatever he wanted.

However... after looking around the boards, and using the DDP vs. OOP spreadsheet, we'd save roughly $200 paying OOP, and probably more than that... some ADR's I booked just to use all of our credits. On top of that, it's the last time for DS as a 9 year old, so we'd save a little money on his tickets as well.

I'm wondering how the CM will take this if I called to change it. I still haven't made up my mind due to the convenience factor of ddp, but I'm really considering it. I'm wondering if they would have to scrap my reservation entirely and start over... I've been making payments, so not sure how that would work.

What do you guys think? (Besides telling me I'm a moron for trying to overpay... I already know it! haha)

They won't take it any way. You're more than 45 days from arrival, so there's no charge to change.

If you explain why you had made him a 10 yr old, I think they'll understand. They should be able to see your past trips and have an age for him from before.

They should do it without any questions. If they won't, hang up, call back and try with someone else.

So I have decided to take the plunge and cancel the DDP. We are going to try OOP ... then we can say we have done it both ways, and will know what works best for us! I'm actually really excited about trying it this way. I'm looking forward to the freedom to share meals, have dessert later or not at all if we don't feel like it, and feel free to order ice water with meals (my preference, anyway!). I've also cancelled one ADR I made just to fulfill all my credits!

The reservation line is closed now, but I'm going to call tomorrow evening and see how the CM takes it. I can see where I would look like I'm trying to fraud Disney, but I can mail them a copy of his birth certificate as a last resort to prove my innocence. :rotfl:

Just wanted to say thanks for the help. You guys were right! I added a day to my stay, cancelled the DDP and changed DS from 10yo to 9yo without ONE speck of difficulty. The CM was super nice and took care of it, no questions asked. :woohoo:

That feeling when your Disney plan finally starts coming together and feeling right... :cloud9:

I have just changed my son to an adult as he will be 9 when I travel and is a tall boy with a big appetite so I was worried about him having kids menus for 14 days!

I also found Disney to be excellent and helpful and as I had a free dining plan I have only paid a tiny amount extra to make him an adult for his stay so I feel I have saved!
It is nice that people can have the flexibility whatever their situation. For me as a first time visitor and single mum I am glad we have the dining plan but it was free so I will pop also for some special meals.:)

Congratulations on the free ddp! They NEVER offer it when I'm going. lol.

I'm interested to see how paying OOP will work out!
