Tell me about your upgrade

I may be alone, but I love reading about guests being upgraded at Disney. If you received some pixie dust and were surprisingly upgraded at check-in, please tell me about it.

In 2010 my daugheter was diagnosed with MS before our visit. We were very stressed and concerned about how she would be able to handle all the walking. I called POFQ to request room close to buses and foodcourt even if it meant giving up garden view. Saving steps was more important. When we arrived we were informed at check in that we were up graded to CR for the lenght of our stay. A private van was called to transport us and we were treat royally. I love Disney so much for making one of the worst times in our life a little better.

I took my parents a few years ago for a surprise to the Beach Club. It was only for 2 nights as they live in Clearwater. When we checked in a nice man came out to great us and asked if we were the "so & so" party. They knew since we checked in at the gate to park our car. I said yes and he said "you're a lucky guest, please follow me". We didn't know what was going on. I thought he was just escorting us to the desk to check in, but no; he escorted us to the elevator!!! I knew what that meant, but my parents didn't. I was so excited. :woohoo: He brought us up to Concerige!!! I had never stayed at this level. It was amazing. We were the first room on the left and had an awesome view of the pool too. I had been about 25 times, usually with my son; and we have never been upgraded to anything!! This time my son wasn't with me and I was so sad about that. He wasn't too happy missing out either. But I made it up to him and booked us concerige for his 21st Birthday the following year.
 


Upgrades at the moderates have gotten few and far between, because Disney basically added booking categories based on requests.

A few years ago, I was booked in waterview and was given a king bed, corner room riverview.

Now that would be a booking category; either riverview or king bed.
 
We have been upgraded twice.

The first time was in 2006 when we were staying at the YC for our 10th Anniversary. We booked a standard view room and got a quiet pool view. It was very relaxing to sit there in the morning and watch the ducks swim in the pool.

Then last year we went to the BC for the first time and booked a garden view regular room and when we stepped off the ME bus at around 3PM we were greeted by name by man with a clip board. I thought he had the wrong guest but he assured me that he was waiting for us. He took us to the concierge floor. I could have burst. My family was just looking at me like what is going on. As soon as we got to our room I screamed. I was so happy.

We loved CL so much that we are staying CL at BWI in July. Can't wait.
 


Bc booked a standard and upgraded to cl!
Dolphin booked a standard up graded to resort view, we overlooked the swan and tot!
Poly, booked a standard and got cl!

We have been really lucky. The only time we didn't get upgraded was at we, our first trip. While cl is a wonderful upgrade, we have always been very happy with our view upgrades as well. :thumbsup2
 
Our very first trip, we were "family of the day" and upgraded from std garden wing to a huge suite!!! We were so spoiled and nothing has really quite measured up since :(

We had the same thing happen to us at the CR! It wasn't our first trip though, so we weren't too spoiled. But it was awesome!

We also were upgraded from Pofq to the Poly,but only for one night. We had the PoFq night booked for just the first night, because our discount code we were using at the poly for the rest if the week did not start till night 2. They moved our first night to poly as well, at the PoFq rate. Even better, for that poly stay they upgraded us from garden view to lagoon view. Magical!!

Bc booked a standard and upgraded to cl!

Same here! My first solo trip in 2012, I booked a standard view room at the BC. Got off the ME bus and was approached by a young lady CM with a clipboard who asked my name. When I told her, she said she had a surprise for me, I had been upgraded to CL! I was totally stunned, did not see that coming! :goodvibes
 
I had planned for our family of 5 to stay at the BC in a deluxe CL room for my 40th birthday (8/2) and 10th anniversary (8/4). We had surprised the kids with the trip (DD20, DS15, DD15) and they were told we were staying at POP until we got off ME at BC. We were taken up to CL to check in, where I was told we were upgraded to the 2 bdrm suite. It was awesome, wonderful view and had LOTS of room for the 5 of us.
 
We were upgraded for the 1st time last month. We had booked a YC SV CL room and upon checking in were upgraded to a YC Lagoon View CL room!!! We were so excited! :cool1: Way better than looking at a roof (which I was prepared to do)

Are you asking for upgrades when you check in or are they just giving them to you?!?
 
I just stayed at the GF and was upgraded from a garden view and was given a room with a water view and a view of the Magic Kingdom Castle.

I have never asked for an upgrade. I don't know if it matters or not, but when we check in i always say good morning and have a smile.:), one I forgot to mention..we stayed at Dtd Hilton due to dh travel points. Our first room we were not to happy with at all...so dh asked for a different room and we got a rather large suite. So that was a nice treat.

When checking in at AKL, I asked if a Pool View room had become available that I could PAY the difference for (only Standard & Savannah were available when I had booked the trip, and Savannah was out of the question, so I'd booked Standard). I never once insinuated or expected to be upgraded for free, I was very up front about that from the start.

Got to our Pool View room (ground floor, blocked by vegetation, couldn't even see the pool) and it was FILTHY. Dead flies all over the nightstand, a thick layer of dust on everything, including the towel animal. I mean, it was seriously dusty/dirty.

Went to the front desk and explained the situation. I was assured the room would be cleaned within the hour. Went to Epcot, came back to find the room untouched. Called Housekeeping, who said they would take care of it right away.

Went to dinner, came back to a still-untouched room. At this point, I was in tears after an exhausting day of travel and completely dissappointed in our first onsite stay. I was a very big deal for me to splurge on that resort. I asked to speak to the manager, but was given Housekeeping again.

(Yes, my fault, I should've demanded to talk to the manager. I'll never make that mistake again)

The Housekeeping manager moved us to a far-off Savannah room overlooking the people pen. They didn't charge me for the upgrade, but I would much rather have had a room that wasn't soooo far away from everything (I was traveling alone with a small child) and the lovebugs were so bad we couldn't go onto the balcony.

I learned that the dirty room had been sitting empty for nearly a month and was supposed to be cleaned before being used again. It wasn't the dirty room that bothered me as much as the lack of follow-through by the staff.

Needless to say, although I love the feel of the resort, we've never returned and probably never will.

So be careful what you wish for! ;)

This was our experience at BC altho it wasn't an upgrade but a filthy room wayyyyyyy down the hall, and we were Club Level so we will never go back to BC which is sad b/c I liked the resort although it certainly needs some refurbishments..Carpet down the hall faded and stained, furniture in room chipped and needing painting halls smelled musty and again this was CL!
