20,000 ppl? crowd level?

Considering that MK averaged about 46,900 per day in 2011 (last full year stats I've seen) then 20,000 would likely be considered quite low.

If there are 20,000 ppl in the Magic Kingdom- what crowd level is that considered?

Out of curiosity, why did you choose that number? Did you see it somewhere?

That number is quite low. Most estimates for a party sellout are 25,000 or more, and MK is not crowded for those park-wide.

20,000 is even pretty low for Studios... but yeah. MK would be DEAD if there were only 20,000 people there....

We were commenting on how crowded it was while waiting for the fireworks one night and the castmember near us said "It's only about 25,000 tonight, you should see at Christmas when we hit in the 50's"

It really only felt ultra crowded because of where we were positioned waiting for the parade and that everyone was congregating in that area. This was also before NFL so I imagine the previous poster was correct when they said they thought capacity was around 50,000.

I was in MK on New Year's Eve 2010. A security guard told us there were 90,000 people in the park. I don't know if she was exaggerating, but I had about 1 square foot to stand on Main Street waiting for the midnight fireworks. So, like others have said, with 20,000 people I think you could shoot the PotC cannon down the street and hit no one.

20K would be very low for a regular park day, but would feel somewhat crowded on a party night. That is because on a regular park day folks are fairly evenly distributed throughout the park. At a party, they tend to congregate on Main Street to see the party specific parade, shows and fireworks.

We've never been to WDW during Xmas and the Xmas party they have said they sell 20,000 tickets. I was wondering if that would be crowded or not and worth it.

I thought I remember hearing (maybe from a CM but not from a bus driver - we have a car!) or reading that before NFL it was 50,000 ish and with NFL it was now 70,000 ish but that could be way off.

Not sure at what level the closures start but given the 2011 average per day of 46,900 it has to be well above 50,000 and probably more like 60,000+ for phase 1.

We were there on a fairly busy Saturday in mid-December in 2011. A CM told us there had been 30K there the day before. We were there and indeed experienced a fairly light day. They also told us they were told to expect 60K that day. Don't know if it hit that but it was exponentially busier. (Friday had been an early close party day and Saturday was the final day seasonal APs could be used).

That said, capacity closure never happens that week (I believe that Saturday was 12/17) and I doubt was ever a possibility that day.

So I would just make a complete guess and say closure doesn't happen below 75K. I might even put the number higher.

Do you suppose people who really know the number love sitting around laughing at posts like mine? :)

I don't know I think that figure would be more useful if there were no PH feature. Visitors like our family hit at least 2 parks per day and up to 4 if we're in a PH mood. So the turnstiles would count us as a visitor to MK but we wouldn't really be there all day - does that make sense?

I guess I'm saying on an average day all 47,000 ish people aren't there at the same time. Some folks do stay all day; others PH; some take an afternoon break, some do RD and leave after the parade etc......

I've read many times that maximum capacity for MK is 100,000. When the first hard ticket parties started the reported maximum tickets were around 25,000, but with the popularity of MNSSHP and MVMCP they upped the ticket numbers to about 40,000.

sounds like no matter what the max number is we're all in agreement that 20,000 is sort of a drop in the bucket crowd level wise - so a low crowd in any case.....:dance3:
