Back from a great trip to Disney!!! Headed back in 4 years... So what to do then,

All cruise
All land
Land and sea split

Kids will be 6,8, 11

Try a cruise! My kids prefer cruises to Disney, and they haven't even been on the DCL yet!

Why do your kids prefer the cruises over WDW?

WOW, 4 years is a lot of time to plan!! Things could change a whole bunch between now and then. We've never been on a cruise, but would like to try some day. Happy Planning!!!

My DD says she like the water- being in the middle of the water, looking at the water, floating, etc. But she's always been a water girl

My DS likes the food, I think- all the buffets, the room service, the 24 hour pizza parlor. To him, that's a good vacation! Oh, and he likes the bunk beds in the cabins!

For me, I like getting OFF the boat and seeing the islands and doing the excursions. Last May we cruised and the kids got to zipline over the jungle, visit a money farm, pet sea turtles, go down in a sub to look at shipwrecks, snorkel, etc. If our tour to swim with stingrays hadn't gotten cancelled, it would have been perfect! These were all kid-friendly activities, and it's not like you can do many of those things locally!

How come four years? That's a long time to be away! But a land/sea package sounds totally fun! DBF and I have been looking at DCL for next year and though we don't have kids we love how the ships seems to have so much to do for all age levels, including several tiered age levels for kids. You could do WDW first and then relax on a cruise out of Port Canaveral! DCL's website makes the whole Disney cruise experience seem so down-to-earth. (The idea of a fussy vacation or cruise with only other adults and no whole families with kids is...just not a magical idea for us.)

I agree with Mike.
Land and sea sounds really fun, and you get to include both, so it's the best of both worlds
You make everyone happy if there are those who would rather do Disney World or vise versa.
And ending it with a relaxing cruise sounds awesome, because Disney can be hard work!

I've done both and have enjoyed both as has DH & DS...I would definately opt to do one or the other and not a combo...I just feel that with a combo (unless it's a 2-week combo and you do 1 week for each) you won't have enough time for either and I think you would feel as soon as you're getting into the flow of one part of the trip you have to pack up for the next part.

Since you have 4 years, you have plenty of time to decide which - so much can happen as PP said. Also at that time who knows what your kids will be interested in or what new experiences Disney will have. So give it time and see what happens. Hey, you never know - you may be fortunate enough to be able to do a 2-week vacation with a week of each...we can dream can't we?!

I agree with this on one hand but on the other hand, we have done several cruises and I have determined that I prefer the 4-5 day cruises over the 7+ day ones. Around the 4 or 5 day mark, I get a little bored and tired of being in the cramped cabin. The only exception I would make would be for RCI's Allure or Oasis of the Seas. So much to see/do on these mega ships that I'd try it. And also, IMO, the cost of a DCL cruise is not worth it. I prefer RCI or even Carnival, which is significantly cheaper and sometimes better - IMHO.

However, I do prefer to do Disney for 7+ days just so I don't feel so rushed/pressured to be in the parks so much. I like to sleep in and give myself more than one day at each park so I can go at a more leisurely pace. If I went for less than 7 days, I'd feel like time at the resort would be wasted park time, and I'd be more stressed than relaxed which is no fun.

My ds wants to try a cruise but we dont like sitting around . I'm afraid we would be bored. We are commando park people. Nonstop from open to close. I just dont know.

I would wait until 3 years before you make any decisions. You never know, your thoughts on it may change over the years.

So that means on this trip the were 2, 4, and 7? If so, I would do all land. It will be a completely different trip ~ next time they will probably be old enough (ie tall enough) to ride all the "big" rides! If you really want to cruise, I would at least do a land/sea!

Wow, 4 years is a long time. I hope that you have other family vacations in the other years. My kids are grown, and we miss them very much. Enjoy every minute of their childhood. Soon it will just be memories.
