Which fruits do you prefer?

Do you make it with a dressing?

Do you make a dip with it?

I like watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, honeydew, blueberries, red & green grapes.

I've never made a dressing with it but I saw a "recipe" on Pinterest that said to mix a packet of dry vanilla pudding mix into the fruit salad. Sounds interesting.

A friend of mine makes a fruit dip with a tub of cool whip and a couple strawberry yogurts.

Hubby is putting on a Mother's Day BBQ on Sunday. Filet Mignon, baked potatoes, don't know what kind of veggie yet (any suggestions) His mom is getting an ice cream cake but I'm thinking I might want to make a fruit salad too. Guess I'm just looking for different ideas.

no dressing, no dip, just lots of in season fruit mixed together. I love fruit salad!

eta, as for a veg, what about grilled asparagus? so yummy and easy to do

My quick and easy - cut up strawberries & bananas, mix with Miracle Whip. Sometimes use yogurt.

Also like Waldorf Salad - apples, celery, walnuts.

Do I understand correctly that you mix strawberries & bananas with Miracle Whip (like in the "mayonnaise")?

I have done the dry vanilla pudding before. I usually do it when I need a large amount for a group in the winter when fruit is more expensive. It thickens the juices in canned fruit and its really pretty good!

I just use fruit. What ever is local or ripe at the time.

But I do not mix it into 1 bowl. I leave each fruit in its own bowl and let everybody make their own. One DD doesn't like strawberries, 1 DD likes red apples and the other green and my DS is picky about all sorts of fruit. Figure make it your own settles the argument and its not much more work to go this route.

I use oranges, canned mandarin oranges, apples, cherries, grapes, and bananas (I don't think I'm forgetting anything) - mixed with mayo. Sometimes I add a little cinnamon or walnuts/pecans for something different.

I did a double take on that one as well. That`s all kinds of wrong in my book.

Op, just get an assortment of the best looking fruit in your market, cut in up & mix it together. If it's good ripe fruit nothing else is needed. Mixing in a bunch of other stuff is like breading g and frying a nice piece of fish, it's just wrong.

So I guess orange jello with mandarin oranges & marshmallows is out, also? :goodvibes

Seriously, I don't see that the question is asking what is right or wrong. Just opinions as to what different people do.

Food is so subjective. Just because you don't like what I do doesn't make it wrong.

The only thing fresh fruit should be mixed with is fresh mint leaves. Anything else is taking away from the taste not to mention the nutritional value.

It's like taking perfectly healthy vegetables and smothering them with cheese or butter or any other sauce.

But it does make it really unhealthy.

I use the Dole plastic jars of fruit....mandarin oranges, peaches, pineapple packed in water. Dump it all together in a big bowl. Cut up the peaches into bite size pieces. Add fresh strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and/or raspberries. When I bring this to a party, it is very popular and goes quick.

Lots of fresh, in season fruit all cut up and thrown together.

If the fruit can't be in season, or isn't sweet, I like to add a little simple syrup.

A recent work party had a fruit dip that was so good! I don't have the recipe (yet) but the woman who made it said it had vanilla pudding, cool whip, cream cheese, and a few other yummy things. I just put fruit in mine. I sometimes add the cups of mandarin oranges and their juice to coat all the fruit. Growing up our family parties always had a giant water melon turned into a basket filled with fruit salad. They added vodka and the melon and pineapple would soak it up and people would eat it with toothpicks. The same aunt always made it. I never understood why we couldn't eat fruit salad until I was much older.

I add about 1 tablespoon of Miracle Whip to a large bowl of strawberries and bananas. I don't think it's all that unhealthy. I like the tartness with the sweetness.

It's not that unhealthy which to me means it isn't healthy. Yes, there are more unhealthy foods than a tbsp of it but it isn't healthy to add Miracle Whip to anything.
