Hey y'all, I'm planning a once-in-a-lifetime Disney trip right now for my boyfriend who has NEVER been to Disney.

The only reference I've seen to a one-king-bed room is the honeymoon suite. Is it possible to request that at the Poly?

We both have kids but we're not bringing them for this trip (we're doing a week in a family suite in the fall with them).

Thanks!!

I read the tikiman newsletter this morning too. I knew that DVC was coming to Polynesian and although I really don't want to visit when they are doing major construction - it didn't bother me too much until I read that article. What bothers me is that there are going to be TWO huge DVC buildings and turn tahiti into DVC. That just seems like a huge amount of DVC vs. non DVC. I really wonder how that is going to effect getting regular rooms at the resort.

I am also quite sad about the removal of the waterfall from the main building. I hope that they replace it with something that will continue to add to the atmosphere in the Grand Ceremonial house. We visited Yacht and Beach club this past trip as we may stay over there our next trip to avoid construction. My husband and I both agreed that while they were nice - you really got a hotel feeling while at the Poly it is more of a resort feeling. I hope they don't lose that with all the changes.

Ok my two cents are in - now it is just a matter of waiting and seeing what happens I guess.

And no more Neverland Club? (at least that's how it looks in his map)
Maybe it will just be relocated? I hope they keep the same set-up/theme.

A LOT more details on the planned DVC buildings posted on Tikiman's website.

http://www.tikimanpages.com/tiki/news/222-dvc-starting-in-2013

I know the first thought from a lot of people will be "I don't want DVC." But when you see how many people do cash stays at Bay Lake Tower for the larger 1 Bedroom Villas and such, it really may not be a bad thing for those who only stay cash and love the Poly.

Thanks for posting. November being my first Poly stay not sure How I feel about the DVC except it seems to me the 5 story building is not going to look right when the Longhouses are 2 and 3 story. :sad1:

Now I am worried about my November trip being noisy if construction has begun :scared:

On a happy note 180 days until I hear Aloha :) and I reserved a Cabana for one morning :cool1:

What concerns me most is congestion. The Poly will not be the Poly once it is overcrowded. And as I've said before, adding a third DVC to the monorail means they'd better be stepping up the transportation. Instead of cutting back monorail service they need to increase it, as well as buses to other parks. As it is, once buses get to The Grand they are packed. Guests paying top dollar for monorail resorts will not be pleased with the current state of the transportation system.

I am getting cold feet about staying at the Poly with all the references to the Transportation, as it is we are planning on only visiting MK & Epcot this trip. I am not fond of using the buses with an ECV but at least at the BWI it was 1st stop which is great when you have to load an ECV. Depending when construction starts I see more interruption in the monorail service just like when GF DVC started up. :scared:

Completely agree.

I will miss the water feature at GCH.

I doubt the new pool will be DVC only. Guests at Kidani and Jambo can access either pool - is there any reason it will be different at the Poly? Are CR guests not allowed to use BLT's pool and vice versa?

I think you will be okay Sheila. You'll be there before anything major gets started. I wish we were staying at the Poly this summer, one last time before they go messing it all up with DVC!! But, I got too good of a deal through the travel agency at the YC to switch.

It's only natural to second guess my resort but I kinda think you are right. :)
I know what you mean about the YC deal plus you will just be a short walk from the BWI. I know you will visit the Poly for 'Ohana and Kona's

To see Tikiman put the DVC plans in writing is unreal- I can't believe all of this is beginning to become a reality. I'm going to be honest- I hate hate hate the idea of DVC at the poly (for selfish reasons of course). We've been to Disney almost 20 times and haven't bought into the DVC for a reason. I like staying in a hotel room (not the villa/ condo feel) and I like the "quaint" atmosphere of the Poly as is. I understand not everyone sees it how I do but why does Disney have to slap a DVC down at every deluxe? I feel like disney is running a good thing into the ground. What's the point of having hotel resorts when you're just going to turn half of it into a DVC? I guess I'm the most sad that because of construction we probably won't stay there for a few years while this is being completed. I'm glad we're going in almost two weeks and I'll leave it at that!

We will definitely be visiting the Poly in August! ::yes::

Couldn't agree more!

I find it a bit funny Disney will just spend money to redo Rapa Nui, and then in less than 2-3 years tear it down and build the DVC in its place.

No they are not allowed because they are 2 different resorts.. Only guest staying at BLT can use it's pool. With that being said, the Poly and future DVC there would be one resort and everyone should be able to use all the pools.

DVC goes both ways with this see AKL v. BLT, but given that the Poly pool barely accommodates all of its guests when full as it is. They can't allow DVC guests pool access if they don't allow Poly guests access to the DVC pools. Worst case scenario is that Poly guests are only allowed access to the volcano pool, while the DVC guests are only allowed access to their own pool.

I'm glad to read that you think Sheila will be ok--because I am going in early October and was starting to get concerned. :(
I've wanted to stay at the Poly since I was a little girl, and am really looking forward to this!

I read something on another page and it got me thinking- are non Poly guests technically allowed to watch fireworks from the beach? I know pool hopping is frowned upon but this seems like the one thing that goes unnoticed. I don't want to stir the pot but I've always wondered if they ever check room keys??

I am going to keep a close eye on any construction news as I requested Fiji Luau Cove side right where they are putting one of the new buildings for DVC :sad2:

Gotcha, thanks.

The honeymoon suite is something you'd have to pay extra for.

Apparently this renovation they're currently doing will result in some king bedrooms mixed into the regular categories. We're hoping to get request one on our honeymoon in July.

We are thinkin of switching from Lagoon View to Garden View. We really wanted Tahiti, but it may not be done when we check in. Quick question about Tokelau - is the entire building now a lagoon view or is it garden or what they're now calling standard?

TIA!!
