Adjoining rooms?

No, the only time there is a "guarantee" so to speak is when there are more kids than adults and even then it is not a true guarantee.

Link the reservations and they will do whatever they can, depending on availability. Since every room is adjoining, it is not as hard as getting connecting rooms.

Again, since all rooms are adjoining, it is pretty easy to get, it the resort is not too busy.

What gets dicey is when people book with more children tha adults; book two rooms and say their ressie says guaranteed connecting, but it really is not.

You are comparing apples to oranges.

I would highly recommend doing online check in and indicate your preference for adjoining rooms.

Adjoining and connecting mean 2 different things in the Disney reservations system. Adjoining rooms means next to or close to each other. Connecting rooms means 2 rooms with a door in between. Getting adjoining rooms shouldn't ever be a problem, but make sure they link your reservations in the system. With connecting rooms it's going to depend somewhat on the age of the occupants. If it is 2 adults and 4 to 6 children in the 2 connecting rooms, you will have one reservation number and you shouldn't have any problems getting the connecting rooms. If you have 3 or more adults on the reservation, you end up with 2 reservation numbers and you will need to make sure that the reservations are linked and that a specific written request is put on BOTH reservations that you want connecting rooms. 9 times out of 10 your are going to get the room request, the only time you may have to even worry about it is during very high crowd weeks.

Nope. They don't block out rooms as we book them, they only pre-assign rooms a few days out. And even then they can go back and change your room assignment, if another family arrives before yours and wants what you have been assigned.

They do the best they can to meet requests, but the only thing you are 100% guaranteed is a room at a Disney resort. Even the resort can be subject to change, if they overbook or have some issue that takes a number of rooms out of inventory.

Also wanted to add that we have, personally, requested connecting rooms probably close to 20 times and have never had any issues :-

OP--Do you only want rooms that are near each other, or do you want rooms with the inside door that connects the 2 rooms?

We have never ever had a problem getting 2 rooms near each other, but we have 1 time not received connecting rooms when we requested them. If you need connecting rooms, try to avoid staying at the Music resort, or the Contemporary. The one time we didn't get connecting was at the Contemporary. Afterwards my Dreams Unlimited TA told me both of those resorts are limited in the number of connecting rooms that they have. The Music is limited because many of the connecting rooms were used to make up the Family Suites. And they just didn't put as many connecting doors in the rooms at the Contemporary as they did at other resorts.

Rooms near each other shouldn't be a problem.

Adjoining and connecting mean 2 different things in the Disney reservations system.

Just to be clear, adjoining and connecting mean two different things throughout the entire hotel industry - it's not a differentiation restricted to Disney.

All connecting rooms adjoin; not all adjoining room connect.

This is stated here with some frequency, and several of us aren't sure why - given that each adult can stay in a separate room with some of the minors. Not the ideal situation, but certainly possible. Especially given that one adult DISer traveling with more than three minor children several years ago wasn't given connecting rooms (due to lack of availability) l, there's zero basis for the assumption that two adults outnumbered by minors would get that assignment.

I guess it's the personal experience I've had with connecting rooms for the past 15 years or so and have never had an issue. Just because a couple of random Disers didn't get connecting rooms certainly doesnt mean that no one else should ever expect to receive their room request. Lets not over react here. I mean, educate yourself with the possibilities, bit the odds are pretty slim a room request under those circumstances is going to be denied.

.

That's exactly what I said.

But is it not better to warn people who do not know better that it IS possible they won't get their request so they know that the worst can happen then to give them unrealistic expectations and have then upset later?

Always better to give them the truth that these things are NOT guaranteed and that if it is a huge issue, they can figure out something else (look off property, book a suite, or prepare the travel party for the possibility).

It sure is! Take it from someone who has been denied connecting rooms! And has also had the misfortune of being downgraded from a paid for room type to a lesser room. Twice.

Odds may be slim you won't get what you ask for (or what you pay for), but it does happen, and when it happens to you it is not fun.:sad2:

I think people who insist everything will be ok do people a grave miss-service.

Ask to include "traveling with" on each reservation. That may help getting the rooms close to each other.

Heck, how many times do we see people on here complaining because they didn't get XYZ that someone else got? Towel animals, connecting rooms, magic shots, special FPs... Nearly daily do we have someone complain about something like that. As such, it is SO much better to make there are realistic expectations as to what can be done.

And that means saying that it is not always possible to get connecting or even adjoining rooms and that they are not guaranteed.

Point is, "those circumstances" (two adults outnumbered by minors) don't qualify or demand that the party be placed in connecting rooms. Yes, if it's at all possible those parties and any others requesting connecting rooms will get them - but because each adult could be assigned to a non-connecting room with some of the minors makes the original statement erroneous.

That's exactly what I said.

Respectfully, you said Disney. Disney didn't create the concept of or the difference between connecting and adjoining rooms. The hospitality industry, which existed long before Disney resorts, did - and as I said originally I wanted to clarify that the distinction wasn't unique to or originated by Disney.

If I were traveling during a week that the resort is near max occupancy, or even if I was checking in late in the evening, I would not hold my breath for connecting rooms. If you're traveling during the second week of September or January, that might be a different story.

I used to work in a hotel (not Disney), and if I had a guest in front of me at 3pm making a stink about not getting connecting rooms, and you were assigned connecting rooms but hadn't checked in yet, please believe I am switching you out of those connecting rooms and putting this guest in them. Then I would just deal with you when you arrive, IF you arrive. Most hotel employees are trained to deal with the guests they have in front of them and not worry about the guests that have not arrived yet... because you don't know for sure if they will (no shows happen every night) AND you don't know how they will react.
