Adjoining and connecting mean 2 different things in the Disney reservations system.
If it is 2 adults and 4 to 6 children in the 2 connecting rooms, you will have one reservation number and you shouldn't have any problems getting the connecting rooms.
Just to be clear, adjoining and connecting mean two different things throughout the entire hotel industry - it's not a differentiation restricted to Disney.
All connecting rooms adjoin; not all adjoining room connect.
This is stated here with some frequency, and several of us aren't sure why - given that each adult can stay in a separate room with some of the minors. Not the ideal situation, but certainly possible. Especially given that one adult DISer traveling with more than three minor children several years ago wasn't given connecting rooms (due to lack of availability) l, there's zero basis for the assumption that two adults outnumbered by minors would get that assignment.

.
I guess it's the personal experience I've had with connecting rooms for the past 15 years or so and have never had an issue. Just because a couple of random Disers didn't get connecting rooms certainly doesnt mean that no one else should ever expect to receive their room request. Lets not over react here. I mean, educate yourself with the possibilities, bit the odds are pretty slim a room request under those circumstances is going to be denied.
But is it not better to warn people who do not know better that it IS possible they won't get their request so they know that the worst can happen then to give them unrealistic expectations and have then upset later?
It sure is! Take it from someone who has been denied connecting rooms! And has also had the misfortune of being downgraded from a paid for room type to a lesser room. Twice.
Odds may be slim you won't get what you ask for (or what you pay for), but it does happen, and when it happens to you it is not fun.
I think people who insist everything will be ok do people a grave miss-service.
Point is, "those circumstances" (two adults outnumbered by minors) don't qualify or demand that the party be placed in connecting rooms. Yes, if it's at all possible those parties and any others requesting connecting rooms will get them - but because each adult could be assigned to a non-connecting room with some of the minors makes the original statement erroneous.I guess it's the personal experience I've had with connecting rooms for the past 15 years or so and have never had an issue. That's exactly what I said.
