We just became DVC members and will be going down for our first DVC trip to our home resort AKV. We were really thinking about getting an Owners Locker to have so we didn't have to cart things back and forth and also throw out things at the end of Vacation because we didn't want to haul it back. Question is What things should we be thinking of making a list of bringing down and/or ordering from a grocery service?

Most locker owners store all the thing you can't carry on a airplane except in 3oz containers in a quart size bag. Shampoo, shaving cream, lotions, Laundry soap, etc.

Plus those items you use while at Disney. I keep a few sets of clothing so I don't pack as much, my ticket holders, pins I'll trade, fanny packs.

I put my cold weather clothing in the box since it's bulkier, Hoodie, jeans, or a coat.

Have you looked on the OL page:

Hi MarineFam, we're AKV neighbors.:) Lemme tell you that one of the cool things about DVC is getting an Owner's Locker. There's so much "stuff" you don't need to transport back & forth that it's a huge convenience. All those items you can't take on planes, and when you do you're now paying for them, you can keep them in the OL. We even have some clothing in our OL so we can pack lightly on our short trips. Heck with the laundry facilities in the rooms you can pack lightly for even longer trips. If one happens to imbibe alcohol:rolleyes1 you can even store bottles of liquor or unopened bottles of beer/wine.

Normally our trips are less than a week. I think we're at a point where we'll just take some small carry-on bags and call it good.

Side benefit: We usually pick up a little trinket or t-shirt and stuff it away in our OL for the next trip. When we arrive & open our OL it's like Christmas: "Ooh I forgot we bought that!" :earsboy:

Great. Sounds like it will be a great thing. I checked out the website and it seems convenient. I am sure we would have no problem filling one up. The problem would be filling ONLY 1 up :rotfl2:
We have never stayed at AKV yet and sounds like we are going to really enjoy it. We are looking at getting a 2 bedroom Savannah view because my in-laws are traveling with us and everyone has said how the Savannah views are wonderful so I wanted to do that at least the first time.
Question about the OL. When we travel down we usually go on a cruise. IF at some point we only do a cruise and just stay a night by the port, will they deliver there in the same manner? It would be a remote chance now that we have the DVC but friends are also thinking of getting a OL and that was one of the questions that came up.

I love my owners locker. We travel to the world once or twice a year. I even bring it on the cruise.

Some things I keep in my owners locker: Toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, tooth brushes, Q -tips, body wash, deodorants, deodorant, mickey ponshos, coffee filters, coffee, various bandaids, moleskin, scissors, wipes, razor blades, laundry detergent.

Any many more things.

You just have to make sure that everything you put back into the locker when leaving is dry.

This is not my list but one that I found on the boards here. It was so comprehensive that I had to make a copy...

Don't think you will get any negative feed back on this, we love our owners locker. The list is mile long as to what people keep in them the only problem is you end up filling it up and the must decide if you want two.

OL is GREAT! :thumbsup2 I don't know if they'll travel all the way tot he port though. They have been known to meet in other locations (and then you can take it to the port hotel), but things do change over time. So I'd suggest dropping John a quick e-mail and see. He pops in on the boards as well, so you might get a response from him here as well.

We love our Owners Locker even tho we sometimes have to skip a year. This year we're going to DL and Aulani and I'm already dreading the fact that I will have to pack EVERYTHING for this trip.

We only use studios so we keep a few items for the kitchenette like a set of sharp knives & small cutting board, some plastic microwaveable bowls, extra plastic silverware, a wine glass, beer cozies (sp?), large plastic cups & straws for taking to the pool, a large ice tray, coffee filters, an assortment of ziplock bags, extra paper plates, salt & pepper, Crystal Light drink flavor packets and a bottle of Captain Morgan. We also keep a couple of pool / beach bags for the pool / water parks, swim goggles and a collapsible cooler & a couple of blue ice blocks for that.

We also store flip flops, slippers, sunscreens (as long as their dates reach far enough) and toiletries for each of us plus a shave mirror for DH. I have mousse, deodorants for everybody, body moisturizer, hairspray, toothbrushes & toothpaste, combs & brushes, shave creams, razors, nail clippers, air freshener, Downey Wrinkle Release, dryer sheets, a sharp pair of scissors, a stash of safety pins & needle & thread, packing tape, candles, flashlight, spare batteries, spray fan bottles, a couple of backpacks for the parks along with ponchos & mini-umbrellas. I also keep an assortment of bandaids, moleskin, friction block, Neosporin, Gax-X, Advil and several various other OTC meds (I just keep a list of things with their expiration dates so I know when to replace things).

There are other things too that I am forgetting about - our box is so full I literally have to sit on the lid to hold it closed while DH locks it up. When we first got it I shipped a box of stuff down via UPS. It weighed 45 Lbs!! That literally saves us 1 checked bag per trip!! If we have a 2nd trip planned within a few months of each other then sometimes I will leave unopened pre-packaged things like crackers, coffee or sugar packets or something but I wouldn't leave anything that was opened.

We haven't taken ours on a cruise yet but have taken it to Vero Beach with us. If you're not staying at the World pre-cruise I'm sure you could probably work out meeting them at the airport or something. It's a great service - I really hate that every so often we have a year that we don't get to use it so often. But we try to make up for it with 2 trips the next year. I try to time the trips so they fall into different renewal years if we can. Our annual renewal is in May so for example 2 years ago we didn't go in the summer 'cuz we went to Europe on a DCL so last year we went in March which fell into that year before and then we went again in August so that used last years delivery. This year we don't have a summer trip planned but so I'm hoping that we can go NEXT year on spring break which would use this years delivery and then when we go again in the summer we'll use that next years slot. We could definitely think of enough things to leave to fill a 2nd box but since our trip planning is a little erratic we've held off buying a 2nd one. Maybe one day.:goodvibes

I wasn't totally sure about fretting mine but we left it totally full in February it even has left over bottles of beer and wine and cans if soda to start us off next trip in August. We saved a whole suitcase on the plane home

My vacation begins when I get my "Your Owner's Locker has been delivered" email usualy while I'm on my way to the airport.

I know that OL offer a discount to DVC members, which is supposedly available by following the link on the DVC member website. However, I have searched and searched and cannot find a link. Has anybody found/used the discount link lately?

When you are logged in on the Members site, go to the Member's Extras menu tab on the top of the page. Then scroll to the bottom of that page and expand the "Mouse"ellaneous section by clicking on the little arrows to the left of the word. The Owner's Locker discount is in that list.

However, there's nothing to click on there. It simply says to refer to the Portable Perks doc to find out more. Conveniently enough, there's a link on that page to "Download Portable Perks". Indeed, it does give you a pdf of the latest Portable Perks. Now the latest Portable Perks says to "click the link in the perks section of dvcmember.com". Nice. I think I'd just go to the Owner's Locker website and sign up and tell them you're a DVC member.
Note: I do not have an Owner's Locker.

EDIT: I did find it. Under Member's Extras go to Special Offers. The link is in that list.

Thank you so much, I hunted high and low and didn't see it.

So the OL is delivered even before you arrive at the resort? wow. Is it kept at the front until the room is ready?

Lockers are delivered to Bell Services. Just call and have them (yes, them--we have 3) brought to your room. I have been considering making some changes in my contents By adding a few shorts and underwear I could literally go to WDW with nothing but my purse, Customer Service is the best of any business I have dealt with EVER!

Ah, yes...those are our OL's.and we would be lost without them. Love them!

My vacation begins when I get my "Your Owner's Locker has been delivered" email usualy while I'm on my way to the airport.
i love getting that text - it's as if our purple buddy wants us to hurry because the party can't start without us party:

the text letting us know that "Sunny days and warm memories at the BoardWalk is resting comfortably back at the warehouse" does make me a bit wistful tho - sometimes i kinda wish i could send our OL on the plane, while we stay, "resting comfortably":goodvibes.

Sounding more and more like we will have to be getting one of these little purple buddies...

You will not regret it!

I was lucky enough to be one of the Blue Beta Testers for the company way back when! I thought I would give it a try and see if it would work for us. We generally make about 3 - 4 trips down a year and our kids' families also go down. Our locker has been a "honeymoon" locker for both of our sons and their wives. We packed the locker with bride and groom stuff and when they went down for their honeymoons we had the locker delivered to them. It had bride and groom ears, flip flops, toasting glasses, gift cards, etc. (John has a story about my kids' honeymoon).

We now are proud foster parents of 3 lockers. Our best friend was also sold on the idea and he has 3. MY DH stores his Lego trains in one. He sets up his trains on our Christmas trips.

We will be visiting next week and our locker contains all the essentials that I won't have to pack.

Also, we are using Magic Strollers next week for my granddaughter! Great company, great service!
