Should we upgrade???

We have rooms booked for our very first visit to WDW in September at All Star Movies. If the FD is true to the dates that were posted today then I want to know.....

should we keep our original destination or possibly upgrade the room to maybe one of the POR?

It will be my DH and DD3 (she'll be turning 4 during our stay). We have the regular dining plan and do not want to give up our TS for all QS.


So, should we upgrade the room or just the FD option?

The savings on you table service meals, if you are planning to get them, might offset any cost to upgrade to a mod. Since values only get free quick service and mods get full free dining

Free Dining was announced today? I need to go search that out on the boards....but if true I thought value resorts are usually QS. Like you said you can up grade the dining plan or upgrade resorts because the Mod's come with the TS dining plan. I personally would go for POR or POFQ. But thats just me. I'm sure some people love the theme of the value resorts.

I would definitely go for POR because I think it would be worth it in your situation. The difference in price to upgrade from QS to TS would be comparable to the price difference between a moderate and a value hotel.

If it were me, I'd upgrade the resort. We have never stayed at any of the values and have only stayed at 1 moderate, but I would choose a moderate for the larger room, double sinks, and a slide at the main pool.

I saw a thread that said it's rumored to become available for Disney Visa holders on May 6 and for everyone on May 9.

Just for fun, I tried to calculate which is the better deal. You didn't state how many days you are staying so I just did a six night stay.

Six nights room only at ASMo would be $632.80.
Six nights room only at POR would be $1,170 - a difference of $537.20

Six days of QS plan for 2 adults and 1 child would be $536.88.
Six days of TS plan would be $770.04 - so it would cost you $233.16 to upgrade from QS to TS.

If you stay at ASMo and pay the $233.16 to upgrade, your room plus TS dining would cost $865.96. If you move to POR in order to get the free TS dining, you would be paying $1,170. So it will cost you $304.04 to move to POR.

The calculations do not include taxes, etc. I got the room cost from the Disney site. Both are standard rooms.

I hope I did that right.

we just returned from POR so we are on a "high" still but it truly is a beautiful resort!

I would have to agree with the PPs and upgrade resort....this way you would get more room and really pay minimal upcharge to do so.

Thanks everyone! I'm afraid that if we upgrade the resort we'll lose some of the oversized magic for our DD. Is this silly?

We usually stay at the Grand Californian when we visit Disneyland each year and the convenience is absolutely unbeatable!

Can anyone tell me which one has the better location based on length of bus lines and convenience. I see where each is on the map but it's still hard to fully wrap my mind around the size of WDW!

We're actually going to be there for 14 nights!!! Although price definitely matters...it isn't the only consideration. I want someplace that is convenient to return to in the afternoons but is still super fun for our DD....

She's too young to care about all the amenities a deluxe resort can offer so we'll save that for another trip!

I would def go for a Moderate then, for 2 weeks. The increase in cost will be minimal per day, and it will be more enjoyable for you in all likelyhood.

POR would be great for access to Down Town Disney, certainly, the boat ride there and back is super convenient. Also makes it convenient if you have ADRs at other resorts, take the boat to DTD and then get a direct bus to the resort, rather then bust to park, bus to resort, and then reverse.

CSR is pretty fantastic for the bus service. This might be anecdotal, but the impression I get from people here (and our own experience) is that CSR busses are pretty stellar. They certainly were during out stay, very convenient to do some hours in the morn, come back for a break/nap/drinks, then head back in the eve. And of course CSR has possibly the best beach/pool/hot tub areas combo at WDW.

I don't think it will make a big difference to your DD what resort you stay at, but it might make a big difference to you

If you are really worried about the DD experience, heck, maybe think about a Royal Room at POR ... while it wont have the over the top theme outdoors, it will certainly offer it in the room. While you will get to enjoy the wonderful theme outdoors

I definitely agree with others and say upgrade to a moderate...have a great trip!

Another reason to switch to a mod is that the values have double beds and POR and CSR have queens.

Mods will give you larger beds and a larger room. For 2 weeks I think it would totally be worth it - and in my opinion the beds at the mods are more comfortable. If you stay at POR or POFQ you'd have the boat to DTD too which is a nice perk - plus I think POR has a really good food court.
