I've read that people have purchased Disney gift cards at Target and enjoyed the 5% red card discount. Has anyone used the gift cards on the ship?

We applied them to our onboard account once on the ship. I've read that you can also use them directly in the gift shops onboard.

From what I understand you can use them on just about anything Disney related. We are buying them to pay for our cruise and enjoy a 5% discount.

So if your cruise costs $5000, you bought $5000 worth of gift cards!!!??? How long did it take you to redeem them (on the phone was the CM patient? or online somehow??). I am asking because I have a Target card, and was thinking that would be a great way to save up for a future cruise.

I think there's a maximum number of cards you can apply at a time (I think 10 or so?). Or you can turn them over to your TA, if you used one, and they can handle it.

Oh so I guess you could just redeem a little at a time...thanks : )

You can also get them at BJs. I am planing on getting enough to pay for the things that I know I want to with the kids on the ship. I never thought about using them to pay for the cruse.

Does anyone know the discount on the gift cards at bjs?

I believe is in the 3-5%.

The best approach with Target is to purchase them using the red card to get 5% and get the pharmacy coupon for another 5% (I'm not sure how that works cause it's not valid in NJ).

But the best has been the last two years in mid December. 20% off and even more by using the red card. The deal was you get a $10 Target GC with any $50 purchase. So first Disney GC gave you a $10 Target GC. Then you use that to pay for the second Disney GC and you get another one. Rinse and repeat.

I only manged to do about $700 worth of them at 20% off, cause I was putting the rest of the balance on my Disney Rewards Visa Premier, giving me 6 months no interest. But all those purchases did gave me an additional 2%.

It is 4%, so a $100 card is $95.99. BUT you can use your Disney Chase visa and get the 1 or 2% in rewards point.

I don't think it is worth it for 4% or 5% at Target, but I did think it was worth it at Christmas with the $10 gift card off $50, and got about $600 worth (my cruise was already PIF but this allowed me to save about $150 off on board charges). If you often shop at Target and can add one or two cards to your purchases, it's a painless way to save, but I think it is a hassle to buy $5000 worth of cards all at once (plus that is more than my limit at Target and I don't like their credit department and I don't like to max out any credit card because it hurts your credit rating).

For my upcoming cruise, I was able to get $20 off $100 in gift cards from Target because of a local discount, plus got two $50 Costco gift cards from a phone purchase that I'm converting to Disney gift cards, plus my OBC from booking, plus my rewards points. I believe I'm entitled to a few Drinks of the Day.

I read a post on here yesterday where the person bought $8000 worth of Disney Gift Cards. They took a picture of their stack and it was a huge stack of cards! They said they could only redeem 10 a day, so every day they would call and put 10 cards towards their final payment. They also used an additional 5% off for prescriptions so their total discount was $800. For me I would totally sit and enter 10 cards a day for 8 days straight to save that much. :thumbsup2

I wasn't sure how or if it would work for us because we are going through a TA so I asked. She said no problem and often suggested it to her clients if they had a Target card. I don't have my prescriptions filled there, but I'm thinking about sending the next 5 over to them just to get the extra 5% when we make our final payment.

wow!

I've paid for a couple cruises and wdw trips with gift cards. I buy them at Kroger though for the fuel points when they are running the 4x Fuel Point Special. Our Kroger usually has the ones that you can put up to $500 on so I buy them $500 at a time if buying them for paying for the vacation. And buy smaller amounts for souvenirs, etc.

To do this all in one trip to Target, you'd have to have an $8000 limit on your Red Card or on your Debit card with that much in your account. If you do it in several trips, you'd need a 5% pharmacy reward for each trip. Takes a lot of planning.

What the poster said happened was Target would not let a charge that big go through, even after calling and stating she was in fact wanting to spend that much. So the supervisor at the store allowed her to pay with another form of payment and the 5% pharmacy discount automatically came off and then they applied the other 5% she would have saved if she had been allowed to use her red debit card in the form of manual coupons. A few other posters had said they also had the same thing happen and the store supervisor allowed them to use another form of payment but honored the 5% they would have received with using the red card. I wish I knew where I'd read or seen that thread? I think I just put Target card into the search area because I was looking for answers if I could pay with a gift card through a TA, before I had heard back from my TA.

My final payment won't be near that much so I am not too worried as we will be buying a couple hundred in cards here and there over the next several months. Glad you pointed out that spending limits could cause an issue. I didn't think too much of it because I knew we wouldn't have that issue.

I do this too! DH and I fill up at the same time to maximize the fuel discount. Max is 35 gallons and we usually get between 32-35. With a $250 GC, we get 1000 points that's worth $1/gallon. That equates to 12.8-15% discount. Worth the extra effort!

I paid for our upcoming cruise with Disney GC purchased with the 5% discount. I just emailed my TA 10 gc numbers as i got them. I never heard anythIng negative from her. The cruise has saved me $150 and in the process of purchasing $1500 more for spending on the ship and WDW. So I've saved $225+ (since I got 4 free $10 target GC during the Christmas promo)! I'm so happy about the savings!

I have been buying Disney GC at Target and redeeming them myself on the DCL website....it does take awhile (20 $50 GC take about 25 minutes) but well worth the 5% off!

This is exactly what we do! :thumbsup2 I shop at Target but not nearly as often as Kroger. For my family this is a better option to save money and since our Kroger has the gcs that you can load up to $500 on, it is easier for me to apply them to our cruise. :)
