Med Cruisers...Let's Discuss Planning!(Updated Tour Info, Links & BCN Info on Page 1)

Just happened to see this.
I'm not even going to the Med Cruise.
Wish I am, though.

o Stop newspaper delivery.
o Call credit card companies and let them know that you will be traveling.
o Make copies of Credit Card (front and back) before you leave. Also bring a list of the contact phone numbers for your credit cards.

Great idea. Will add to my packing list! :thumbsup2

Clean out your wallet. No, you won't need the Target Red Card, your library card etc...

I take a debit card, 2 credit cards, my drivers license ans health insurance card. Everything else stays home. That way I can't loose the junke.

I do this even for a little cruise to the Bahamas. I have a mini travel wallet to hold CCs, DL, etc. I know I won't need my grocery store discount card on a ship. Just more crap to carry around & worry about.

I will have to get a mini wallet for dh & he can leave the regular one home.

I also have a separate travel wallet. I only take DL/ID, 2 CC, and my medical insurance and auto insurance cards for pre and post cruise use. No grocery card, library card, etc. once on board, the wallet goes in the safe and stays there except when I go ashore.

You would be amazed that a lot if people don't. I have seen people digging through their wallet in Paris, the wallet has the grocery card, the PetSmart card, 20 credit cards etc.....

Plus you have to carry that weight around while you sightsee :rotfl2:

The June 27th sailing was notified our port time for Dubrovnik starts two hours earlier than originally planned. So if you are in the 2nd Venice sailing for his summer, you might want to check your itinerary as well. We have contacted our guide to see if he can meet us earlier.

We are on the second Venice sailing, and they moved up our arrival time in Dubrovnik as well. Our shore excursion is now leaving at 12:15 rather than 1:45. That will give us more time to get back to the ship for dinner and pirate's night!

I do this when I visit my sister in London for the day! DS1 seems to have so many loyalty cards for his various gym and music classes that I haul around everywhere...

Do we get our passports stamped by the countries that we visit?

Also, I have seen some discussion regarding whether you carry your passport ashore. I'm afraid to be without it in case we get left by the boat.

Our experience has been that if your passport is required to go off the ship with you, DCL will let you know. They will make announcements and it will be in the information they give you the night before with your Navigator. So be sure to read and look for that. In the Baltic, there were two countries it was required: Russia and Sweden. There was ample notification.

As for getting the passports stamped, we have not gotten ours stamped while on a cruise except when we were required to take our passports with us. However, my understanding is that in some ports, there may be a Tourist Information place where you can get a stamp or at the port itself, depending on how it is set up. For example, the port in Civitavecchia is an embarkation port for cruises so they will have customs people there (I would guess) who may or may not stamp your passport upon request. We have been told that there is a tourist information place in Monte Carlo next to the Casino where you may be able to get a Monaco stamp if you are lucky.

You probably won't get them stamped at most ports. There MIGHT be an entry office that would stamp them. If you are on a cruise that goes to Turkey that's actually your best bet for a stamp.

As for "required" or "not required" I will generally take mine just in case....

If you hold an EU passport, with the exception of Turkey it is highly unlikely they would be stamped. For Non-EU they will probably only be stamped at your point of entry to the EU as theoretically there is free travel around the union

Question for all previous Med Cruisers - We would love to do an underground tour of the Colosseum and right now there is a time available for 9:40 am. The ship docks at 7:15, would we have time to make it to the Colosseum for that time or are we taking a big risk....not to mention if the ship is late docking. Please help!

You probably won't. I posted this on the fodors forums and after alot of opinions we called the colosseum to change our time, we had originally booked 9:40.

Thanks a lot, That is what I though....What time did you book if you don't mind. We would also like to visit the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Pantheon on that day, so I really hope it is all doable....

All of that is very doable. Our time for the dungeon tour is noon or whatever the noon time is.

Would you suggest do the Colosseum first and then the other sites or the other way around? Sorry for all the questions, all this is so overwhelming for me!
All aboard for us is 6:30, so I was planning getting back around 4:00 or would that be too late?
