What food at a Villa?

This will be our first time at a Villa. I am thrilled with the idea of having a kitchen. Question is...what foods do you all bring to have on hand? We drive so I was thinking of just starting a plastic storage bin to have it all in there.

Depends on what your family likes to eat and if you want to cook. My family has never cooked a meal on vacation....full kitchen or not, but that's our choice. However we love having breakfast in the room. Bagels, cereal, fruit, oatmeal, toast. Late night snacks....lunchmeat, chips, ice cream.

I've found that a trip to Walmart, right outside WDW property....with a list is the way for us to go. Maybe bring snacks from home....but we don't bother. Quick trip to Walmart.

We always stock up at Pubix - there are several close to WDW.
I make whole range of easy foods. I don't mind cooking but I do not put in loads of effort. In a 15 night stay I will cook 10 nights.

I do, Pizza, pesto pasta and veg, grilled salmon and potatoes, steak and salad, baked potatoes with a variety of fillings, hamburgers/vegieburgers, Spanish omelettes. We also buy a rotisserie chicken which we have hot the day we buy it and cold in sandwiches the next day.

Bring with you - salt, pepper, olive oil, stock cubes, garlic, kitchen towel, dishwasher tablets, tea, coffee, sugar, sweetener.

Hope this helps - have a great trip.

Don't forget coffee filters if you bring coffee. Mr Coffee basket style 10-12 cup.

We always take a suitcase full of food. Cereal, bagels, pop tarts (for me), rice-a-roni, side noodles, microwave popcorn, cookies don't travel well, peanut butter and jelly get flagged for search. Forgot to start out by asking if you are flying or driving.
We always rent a car around day 2. My daughter and her family live in Orlando area and we visit her. On the way back we hit a Publix. We go to the deli area. Fried Chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, things that need to be reheated or eaten cold. Fresh fruits and milk. We also like to get Nestles Chocolate Chip cookies you can bake. It's so nice to come back to your villa whip up some cookies have some milk or coffee on your deck.

The empty suitcase is great for all the souvenirs.

We do easy things like grilled cheese or sandwiches and soup, breakfast for dinner(eggs, sausage, fruit and toast, since we always do a quick breakfast before the parks), salad kits and add precooked chicken, spaghetti, or tacos. I only like one big meal a day, so if we eat out once, we are happy to have something lighter. Our kids were more than happy to have frozen pizza one night, and DH and I had cheese, crackers, fruit and nuts with a nice bottle of wine.:)

Thank you all for all the good ideas! I will have to put either a Publix of Walmart into my GPS so we can find it before getting to the resort.

We drive, so we can bring a lot of the boxed stuff, and then stop to get the cold/frozen stuff.

Thank you all again very much!

We do exactly the same thing - we have a bin that we throw things in.

We collect condiment packets, salt and papper, little jellies from fast food places. Wawa always has them, for free so we're not stealing LOL.

Coffee supplies - filter, scoop to measure, creamer and sugar

Cereal, bagels, bread, Easy-Macs or box mac & cheese, soup, pretzels, granola bars, spaghetti and sauce.

Sometimes, but not always, we bring a cooler with cream cheese, eggs, butter, cheese sticks.

The gift shop at all DVCs carries a lot of good basic groceries. Frozen pizza and meals, eggs bacon sausage, milk and juice, donuts, lots of chips, pretzels, tortilla chips, salsa, baloney and cheese slices, peanut butter and jelly. The only thing you can't get is fresh meat or gourmet groceries, but you can eat for a week out of the gift shop if necessary.

We have used wegoshop in the past and really liked it. It's much better than taking time to go food shopping when you get there. After driving for 2 days, we prefer to relax and settle in, then hit the parks that evening. My family HATED it when I'd say, okay, let's go to Winn-Dixie now. Got pretty grumpy LOL. We tried Wal-Mart once and that was pure chaos. We'll never go there again. You get big families on vacation wandering the aisles with no sense of purpose and just getting in the way!!!

When we drive:

We bring pretty much all our "dry goods": Cereal, bagels, coffee, coffee filters, sugar (for coffee), goldfish crackers, etc.

We buy (either at the Super Walmart near AKL or via Garden grocer) our perishables: Juice, milk, half and half (for coffee), fruit, etc. We also pick up a case of water...and then refill the empties and put them in the fridge at night.

That's largely because a) we have the room in our van and b) Orlando grocery prices seem to be a bit higher than ours. We've tried Goodings (VERY high), Walmart, and a bunch of the other local stores. We seem to spend less by "BYO".

We typically do breakfast, one or two lunches, and snacks in the room (typically a 10 to 12 day trip). NO dinners.

We've also baked X-mas cookies in our room. :)

We do this too....bring the boxed stuff but have delivered the rest. Not TOO much of an upcharge and so nice to not have to go anywhere. Last time we used Garden Grocer and got a couple of their pre-made things. One was a lasagna bake or something similar. Said it served 6 but must have been the six biggest humans in the world. But it was wonderful and was a quick and easy meal for everyone for the remaining three days. I wish we'd had it earlier! I made a big salad that we just snacked on with that pasta and it was perfect! Plus we do some of the "healthier" stuff in the room since the kids mostly eat chicken nuggets and pizza in the park. And almost all breakfast in the room....so much easier while trying to dress the crazy kids!

I just did my third "add to order" with Garden Grocer :p

Mostly, I ordered breakfast and snack things. Yogurts, apple sauce, water, soda, juice, cereal, oatmeal, trail mix, crackers. I also ordered beer and coffee grounds (but I keep forgetting the filters -- 4th add-on coming up) and one large frozen pizza in case we get rained in one night. Oh, and a large container of bleach to clean the jacuzzi.

I'm packing a bunch of protein bars and the overnite diapers (only need a few) and a couple of washing machine detergent pods and dryer sheets.

Have fun!

Those premade casseroles are great. We've gotten Stouffer's lasagna, individual meatloafs, and chicken and rice bake. Those are great to throw in the oven for an hour. We have found we just don't want to eat in restaurants all the time and would rather make a couple boxes of mac & cheese some nights. We try to keep it healthy in the room too. Strikes a bit of a balance, then you don't feel so bad when you go buy $50 worth of fudge at Boardwalk Sweets :rotfl2:

Since I believe these items are intended for use by folks who are buying items there, I use an online company called minibuz.com to buy these items. I buy packets of salt and pepper, mayonaise, mustard, sugar packets, etc.
I also use wegoshop.com for deliveries.
We get coffee, juice, soda, water, fruit, breakfast foods, beer, wine, cheese and crackers and snacks. I believe I save the delivery fee with just the case of water.
Enjoy your kitchen

If you have a picky eater - bring their food. My DS is brand specific when it comes to his hot dogs and rolls. We also bring poptarts, microwave popcorn, salt & pepper, coffee (filters too), jar of sauce and a box of pasta, snacks etc.

I also like to bring cleaning wipes, laundry detergent (housekeeping will supply you with dish soap, dishwashing detergent, paper towels).

The most important item that I bring would be ziploc bags in different sizes. I use them to store left overs, bring snacks into the park (a bag of microwave popcorn fits into a gallon size), etc.
