What to buy

I have a Sony HDR-XR160 that does a very good job. It is HD with 5.1ch Mic, a wide angle 29.8mm lens, steady shot, and has very good low-light.
There are a lot of very good reviews on the camcorder, just type in Sony HDR-XR160 Review.

Funny you mention this model. We were looking at Sony camcorders last night. Does this one take still images too?

I use a Canon HF G10. However it is around $1000.

I think all the camcorders are now HD.

How much bells and whistles do you want on it?

Yeah $1000 is bit much for us. As far as bells and whistles, we want something hd, takes still picks. We have never owned one so I'm not sure what other things it can come with.

zabache it takes 3.3 mp images.
I hope you're not going to use it for taking pictures. :scratchin
I would highly suggest you invest in a camera for taking pictures. ::yes::
The Sony HDR-XR160 can be found on ebay for around $200. I found mine at Best Buy for $250. Like I said it does a great job for the price. ;)
Do you have a P&S or a DSLR?

You don't have to buy a camcorder to get really nice , stabilized, full HD video.
Sony's HX9v was the first point and shoot camera to make HD video as good as many basic camcorders.
And while $700 camcorders are even better, I have no need for a seperate camcorder when my point and shoot is quite good.

Now there are some handling and functional differences.. My HX30 does not have a mic input, And in very quiet screens you can hear a touch of zoom motor, so its not for everyone...but it is a nice camera, too.

Take a look at this youtube video. it will give you an idea.

I have the Canon powershot D20 and like it. I haven't uploaded anything yet so I refer to youtube. It worked well at WDW.

Cost is around $300. If you get it at B&H Photo. When I bought it in Nov there was not any tax or shipping charge.

It's waterproof and shock proof too.
