We are travelling for my kids band trip at the end of May into early June and will be heading down to Orlando. We will be at the usual theme parks because of the band competition but after that we want to experience the East Coast. We had originally planned on visiting the Outer Banks of NC but since the kids are competing in Orlando we don't want to have to drive a great distance to get there. Hilton Head Island looks about six hours away which can be very doable for us. Does anyone have any hotels on the beach that they would recommend? I have been studying trip advisor as well. Any help would be appreciated.

We love HHI! You will have such a great time there:goodvibes

Have you looked into the Holiday Inn Oceanfront? It's not crazy expensive, it's oceanfront, and it's really nice. Another option could be the Omni, but that will be a little bit more expensive.

How many days? How many in a room? What kind of budget? Are you looking to go out for meals or wanting to have the ability to prepare some of your own. Are you looking to stay just at the hotel/beach, or do you want access to all the activities?
That would help to give you some suggestions. We've been frequent travelers to HHI for over 15 years and have stayed in a variety of places.

The Beach House a Holiday Inn Resort looks good. Now I'm off to show my wife.

Looking for 2-3 nights. We will eat out everytime except for breakfast. We really just want an area to eat fairly cheaply for lunch and then a nice dinner. Most of our time will be relaxing on the beach and at the pool area of the hotel. The Beach House a Holiday Inn Resort looks good as its an easy walk right out to the beach. Something like that would be awesome. Our favorite West Coast Hotel is the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. For this hotel though we need something in the $200-$300 range I would think. We are a family of five. Thanks for any help here.

Love Hilton Head Island! A couple nice places...

Marriott Hotel in Palmetto Dunes Plantation...beachfront with oceanfront pool and restaurants.
Marriott Timeshares...Grande Ocean and Surfwatch
Westin Hotel is also oceanfront.

A couple VERY affordable condo rentals...with pools and restaurant and oceanfront are Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort and Hilton Head Resort. We rent direct from owners and pay about $300 a week off season to $750-900 a week in prime season. Nice to have the extra space, second bath and shower and kitchen for same or less than a hotel room.

You can also rent direct from owners at Homeaway.com and vrbo.com. We love the villa complexes in Palmetto Dunes.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help. I'm off to do more researching.

How about the Disney resort at Hilton Head? Then, you can extend the Disney fun a little bit longer. :-)

I priced it out and it was over $500 a night for a family of five. Whaaaat? To stay on the ocean at Holiday Inn it was in the $200's. I'm still trying to figure it all out.

That's why I mentioned the Waterside resort. We personally own at Marriott's Grande Ocean which we LOVE, but the cost to stay there is higher and I knew that Disney was even more so. Waterside is great because you can walk or ride bikes from there to so many places and you'll have restaurants and shops close by. I have also stayed in the Holiday Inn (many many years ago) and it was just too noisy for our taste. Besides it's only a hotel room. I think you'll want more space.

Good luck deciding. There are a lot of options in HH to choose from so I understand the need to do a lot of research.

Forgot to mention...two villa complexes either beachfront or right at beach are The Moorings and VillaMare. Both are near the Marriott Beachfront hotel and would give you more room for less money. You can rent them on vrbo and homeaway and maybe even direct on the Palmetto Dunes website.

You should consider trying to rent vacation club points from a Disney Vacation Club owner to help with the cost of staying at Hilton Head. Renting points can save you a bundle on these units.

I don't know too much about buying points. How often is their a scam on these?

Just an FYI..DVC at Hilton Head is NOT oceanfront. It is a few minutes shuttle ride to the beach. I know people just assume it is on the ocean, but it is actually inland a bit.

We stay at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis when we go. Older condos, but many owners have done a beautiful job updating their units. Most are very reasonably priced...the one we have booked for this summer is $700 for an ocean view room for the week, it's newly updated, and has 40+ great reviews. We found it on VRBO.

We visited Disney's Hilton Head resort, and I wouldn't stay there because to us, the point is a beach vacation. Having to shuttle to the ocean is not what I want to do, especially for the cost.

Any of these condos rent for less than a week? We're planning to go for a long weekend and would prefer a condo with kitchen over a hotel room.

Most will. If you search Hilton Head Beach & Tennis on VRBO, it will pull up your options. Each listing will have the requirements, costs, and availability calendar posted.

Yes, many of them do. Waterside and the Marriott timeshares will for sure.
