So we will be at the poly August 15-24th this year. We will be driving from CT and arrive in Orlando around 2-3pm the 14th. We were just going to stay offsite that night (on the cheap side) and check in at the poly the next morning. Now I'm toying with the idea of one night at AKL as I've heard wonderful things about this resort...any and all opinions/ideas are greatly appreciated!!!! TIA!

Hello, I would say it depends when you arrive. We did the same and stayed for one night, it was beautiful but really not worth it to us. We didn't arrive til about 8pm, so literally it was bed and breakfast to us,we didn't get chance to use the pool or other facilities. If you are arriving earlier in the day and hanging around the resort then I would do it.

I think it's a great idea. If you've never stayed there and have always wanted to, I say go for it. AKL is a beautiful resort and is great for relaxing and taking in the atmosphere. Boma is great for dinner and the gift shop is nice and has some unique things to buy or just look at. Have a great trip.

AKL is a fabulous place but if you aren't going to get there until late and are leaving early the next morning I wouldn't think it was "worth it". The enjoyment of AKL is about being able to look out your balcony and see the animals at random times during the day.

I agree - you will not want to leave!
But definitely go for it. It's fun to try different resorts :thumbsup2

We did that last year before our cruise. We arrived around 2-3. We went swimming for about an hour then ate and walked around the resort. Plenty to see. beautiful resort. We got a room only discount too so it wasnt that bad either. We got a pool view and they gave a savannah room. Nice watching the animals in the morning too before we left.

My wife and I did one night at the Grand Floridian; the night before our Wonder PC cruise. We arrived at around 2:00 PM and I think we had plenty of time to explore the resort, shop, dine, etc.

We are going to do this again before our Dream cruise this winter staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. As long as we get there no later than 2:00 again I think we'll be able to see and do everything we want. Including the Sunrise Safari the morning our cruise departs.

So I think it's worth it if you get there early enough to explore. We did and will make it an all resort stay, not going to any of the parks, DTD, etc.

Even on the day you check out of AKL, you can still use the facilities most of the day. Its also nice because they will transfer your luggage from AKL to Poly. I guess it would depend on the difference in price from where you were planning on staying to AKL.

I would but only if I had time to really appreciate the resort and relax there!
We actually spent 21 nights here and loved every single day!!
Swimming in the pool was like a little bit of paradise the surroundings are beautiful, I would if I was going to only be there for 1night get there as early as I could ( like after lunch) so I could swim and take in the animal viewing areas :)

Absolutely! A few hours in the pool and dinner at Boma sounds like a great start to a vacation to me!

Worth it is so different to everyone. I don't know for me if it would be. We do love AKL and we stayed there 12 nights last August. But for a partial day, I'd be inclined to say no. And you may not get into your room till 3 or later. Last August we didn't get into our room till 3:30.

This August we opted to come in a day earlier before GF and booked Pop.

You can always explore the resort, watch the animals, eat dinner, enjoy the architecture -- and then return to your much less expensive room to sleep elsewhere.

Unless you are arriving early enough to really enjoy swimming, exploring, dining, etc. I think you'd be better off just visiting the resort to get a feel for it and then stay there another time. As others have said, spending the extra money if you're just going to basically sleep there for one night isn't the same experience as being able to really relax and enjoy everything the resort has to offer.

You're welcome! Glad you got teased ... :rotfl2:

It's as much for me as it is for you ... I enjoy re-visiting my time there.

We stayed for 1 night before going to a vacation house for 9 days. I would say it was well worth it!! We got in early (12ish) and while our room wasn't ready (we didn't expect it to be:thumbsup2), we toured the grounds and had a great time. We did have a savannah view room, and when we got into the room, it was so magical! I would highly recommend it!

I think we are going to go for it...we should arrive at 1pm so will have plenty of time to see the resort, swim and watch the animals from our balcony! Excited :)

I priced out one night for us and ut would be $1100!!! Holy crap! I'm only spending $785 for 9 nights in a private pool home!
