First cruise in June....keep seeing checked luggage and carry on....what do they check for in your luggage. And what do you normally carry on with you? Thanks!

your swimsuit, sunscreen, sunglasses, and alcohol/beverages need to be in your carry on as well as your passports and boarding documents (anything you may want/need before your room is ready). check the rest of your luggage. your checked luggage will arrive outside your stateroom sometime that afternoon you board.

They generally will be checking both your carry-on bags and checked bags for prohibited items. For more info see the FAQs here. Note while you can bring yhour own alcohol on board, it must be in your carry-on bags and not checked luggage (and you cannot bring on a cooler). Your carry-on bags must be able to fit into the x-ray scanner at the port entrance.

We generally bring swim suits and anything we might need before the cabins are open at about 1:30 p.m. in our carry-ons. You do have to drag your carry-on bags around with you until the cabins are open.

if it's ok to butt in.....

How large of a bag is allowed for carry-on? I guess I"m asking how big is the scanner? I should know, but can't remember.

DCL destroyed our luggage last summer. I'm not looking forward to handing it back over to them on our shorter cruises. I'm seriously considering arriving after we can go to our rooms and just packing light in smaller suitcases to carry it on ourselves. Anyone else do this?

It's about the same size as an airport x-ray scanner, if you can fit it through the airport's it'll fit through theirs.

Maximum size for carryon, per DCL, 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep.

Just to define: Checked luggage is luggage that is checked in at the terminal to ride in the belly of the plane. Carry-on luggage is what you keep with you in the cabin of the plane. Checked luggage is also loaded en mass onto the ship with the rest of the checked luggage.

I hope this helps.

I was the liquor man, used back pack, wife had doucements, and stuff needed for day in case lugage was late, yes that happens. Daughter and two teens had their items for the day and valuables. Camers, ipads, iphones, etc.

Bring your med with you. Do not put in checked bags.
All Bags are scaned coming on, no guns, etc. Dogs check coming off, no drugs.

Use your old lugage, they broke GD new bag that we gave her for Christmas. Checked bags are thrown in big pile. Pictues are out their for you to see.

So now you know what to expect. Get ready, pack, if the bag shows up messed up you can say i knew it, and go up on deck and order the drink of the day and say this going to be a great trip. Bring some duck tape to wrap it up to go home. But have a great trip. Do obsess over thing you will not be able to control.

Do not try and carry on so much that you cannot enjoy some of the most important mins of your trip when you walk on the ship and have your first meal.

We actually checked in a cooler with the alcohol during our Mexican Riviera Cruise 2008.

We also brought with us a couple of cases of water on all of our cruises. No problem.

Totally agree! We learned our lesson on the Mexican Riviera Cruise 2008. Two of the big luggages broke.

So, we now purchase our "nice" and "great-looking" luggage from Marshalls/TJMaxx. Some were $35, $50, and $70. Never paid more than that.

We were a hit in the Barcelona airport MedCruise 2010. Our suitcases looked like Sagrada Familia and the Spain colors.

When two of them broke on the way back (disembarkation to Barcelona port), we just sighed and told ourselves that we had a great time!

Glad that we made it that far.

Enjoy the cruise and buy some good-looking designer duct tape from Target or Staples :)

My DDs have already purchase a camouflage roll and one that has giraffe prints.

DCL no longer allows coolers to be brought onboard. They were always on the prohibited list, but not enforced. Until end of last year.

Yes, you can bring water onboard, but there's really not much reason to. The water onboard is processed the same way that bottled water is processed (reverse osmosis and filtered). That's all the water onboard, for preparing food, making ice, from the drink station, from the tap in your room. We just bring a couple of reusable water bottles for filling onboard.

This is good news. I was just trying to talk myself into either paying the $35 for 24 bottles or a way to buy a case and then throw it in a bag and let Disney deal with it. I don't want to carry on so much I feel overloaded. Do the drink machines have a water spout?

Yes.
