Luggage transfer and timing?

Here it is, our BLT DVC starts on a sunday...however flights wicked $$$$ so we are coming in Saturday late afternoon (yeah more disney time:thumbsup2)

Wanting to keep ME, it worked cheaper to get a disney hotel room (port orleans riverside??? never been comments?) for the one night. Our plan is to land, hop on ME, check in and go to DTD (yes under construction by then:sad2:) and enjoy the start of our Disney vacation.

So, never done this before so no clue...

How long will it take for luggage to get to our first room (Port Or. Riv) not that we will need it right away.

And when we move over to BLT what do we have to do? Just leave the luggage in the room and go check in at BLT (assuming the room wont be ready that early, but getting park tickets etc. and heading to the parks)

How long does it take to get luggage moved over?

Lastly-grocery delivery...when does that arrive. do we have to wait for it so cold items can be put away?

thanks again...:dance3:

When you check out of resort A, you take your luggage to bell services and have them tag it for transfer. You will be given a receipt with a number on it and the number of bags you have. Verify the number of bags. It is expected that you will tip bell services for this service.

When you get to resort B and have your room, you call bell services and give them the number on your tag. They will then delivery it to your room. You must be present for this delivery. It is expected that you will tip bell services on this end for this service.

Luggage is delivered in the afternoon. I would not expect to have it available before the 4pm BLT check in time.

Antoher option especially if you are going to BLT in the morning to pick up your package tickets, is to take a cab and transfer your luggage yourself and store it at BLT with bell services while you go to the park. I have twice had problems with luggage transfer on split stays so now I always move it via cab myself. Once we didn't get it until quite late and once we had a bag missing (which is why I said to verify that number of bags on your ticket that was marked for transfer). Our bag was found but I had to stay at the resort for over an hour while they tracked it down while the rest of my party went out and enjoyed the afternoon.

Grocery delivery is set up for the time you want it delivered from whatever company you used to purchase your groceries. Bell Services will refridgerate your items until you are there to get it. You will need to notify bell services that you are in your room and ready to get your groceries. It is expected to tip bell services for the delivery of your groceries to your room once you are checked in.

How much do you recommend tipping bell services? If I'm bringing my bags to bell services myself idk if a big tip is in order. wondering if a cab cost outweighs all the tipping I will be paying? Five yrs ago we took a cab Animal Kingdom park to Porr Orleans the driver didn't know his way wound up taking close to an hr and my husb still tipped him on a full price fare which wasn't cheap. Now I'm not so fond of Disney cabs.

Also doing a split stay....but renting a car for the entire trip. If that's not an option....look into renting a car for a day or two. I usually have my own car or rent one while in WDW. Never had problems with Disney transportation....just hated the lines for the bus at night with little kids. Now that my little ones are getting older, I'm just used to having a car. Well, that and I don't miss standing on the bus with little ones either, lol.

If you allow Disney Bell Services/Luggage Assistence to move your bags, you should tip $1 per bag, on each end. Your bags will get to at some point late afternoon. You have to call them to have the bags brought to the room..they will not deliver to an empty room.
Or, just take your bags yourself to the front of the resort and get a cab. Then, you don't have to tip for bag handling. But, when you get to the new resort, if your room isn't ready yet, and you have to store the bags, you will have to tip...again, $1 per bag.

As far as grocery delivery goes, I have always been able to say when I wanted my order delivered. If you aren't there, then Bell Services/Luggage Assistence should be able to provide refridgeration for cold stuff.

thanks for all the help!!! Still not sure what we will do......hmmm. cab sounds more simple- however and like you said w/ all of the baggage tipping.
However can the cabs handle a family of 5? :crowded:

Since we will BLT I am hoping to keep bag numbers low since we can do a laundry half way through our stay...and we are flying this trip..so the airlines are getting nasty about baggage too!! :sad2:

A couple of follow-up questions with respect to the cab bag transfer:

1.) If I'm transfering early in the morning (say around 7 a.m.) can I expect to have an easy time getting a cab from resort A to resort B? (have never thought to notice whether there are cabs parked in front of the resorts that early)

2.) In that situation, assuming my room in the new resort is not ready, am I expected to tip bell services when I drop the bags off? (I know I'm expected to tip AFTER they bring the bags to my room, but wasn't sure if I'm expected to tip when dropping the bags off)

I did my first split stay last Dec - super easy. I called down to Bell services @ resort A the night before I was leaving to arrange a pick up time. They called me that morning to let me know they were on their way and and to ask if I was ready. They showed up, gave me my voucher, I tipped $2 per bag, then I went to breakfast, wandered through MK, headed over to Epcot wandered through Epcot and then checked into resort B. Once I was in my room in resort B, I called Bell sercvices for my bags and they brought them right up. I tipped $2per bag again (I'm a good tipper usually.) They'd warned me @ resort A that the bags might not get to resort B until after 2 or 3 pm, but they were there before then.
Why waste park time schlepping bags around when Bell services will deal w/ all of that? Even if you use a taxi, the driver will be out there @ the trunk putting the bags in/out and expecting a tip - won't he, or would that just be part of his normal expected tip?

A CM at POR can call for a van to accommodate your family. But, there is no reason that the entire family has to do the check-in and bag transfer from POR to BLT. I'd let part (or nearly all) of the family head to a park the day you move to BLT. Then one parent or one parent and one kid can take the luggage in a cab to BLT, check in, have the bags stored, and head to the park to meet up with the family. If, by some chance, your BLT room is ready, you can get moved in and then go to the park. No reason everyone has to do the transfer.

1. Yes, you will be able to get a cab. Just go to Bell Services or Valet parking...they will call a cab if there isn't one there already.
2. Yes, if your room isn't ready, you will leave your bags with Bell Services, and yes, they will expect a tip. But I tip when I pick the bags up, not when I drop them off.

I have done split stays about 15 times now. Not once, not one single time, did they get me my bags before 4pm. There was one time that I handed my bags to Bell Services at the BC at 7:30am. They told me that the bags wouldn't be over at POR until 3ish. Okay, not a problem. My dd and I went off to MK for awhile. But after about 1pm, we got really hot and tired, so went to POR to check in. We checked in and were told that we could have a room right then, or wait an hour or so and get a room in bldg 14! We said we would wait. So, grabbed some lunch and walked around for a bit. By about 3pm, we were able to get into our room. Our bags weren't there, but I hadn't expected them to be. So, when 4pm came and went, I called down to Luggage Assistence..no bags yet. Okay. 5pm came. I walked over to Luggage Assistence...nice to be in bldg 14!! I talked to the nicest man. He called BC to see what the story was. 'Oh, we've been too busy today to move the bags. Someone will get right on that.' Now, I 'get' busy. But there was nothing out of the ordinary going on at BC that day!! So, went back to my room. All we wanted to do was swim for a bit before heading out to a park for dinner. Well....when 6pm came, I called down to Luggage Assistence again. The same man answered, and told me that nothing had shown up yet. And that he had called BC again....they still hadn't left. Now, I'm getting peeved. He told me he would call me as soon as they had the bags. About an hour later, he called me, said he was on his way with the bags. He was so apologetic!! I tried to tip him, which I normally do anyway. He flat out refused to take my tip. He said, and I quote,'Mam, there is no way I am taking a tip for such crappy service. You have had to wait way too long for these two bags. So, thank-you for your patience, and have a really wonderful stay at POR!' and he walked away!!

Most times I get my bags right around dinnertime. But I always have to call several times...except at BW. They are incredible there!!!
I think I may take a cab with my bags next month. I don't want to have to carry a bag with me, to the parks, with swim suits. It's going to be hot, and we'll want to swim midday. But yes, that cab driver will be expecting a tip as well. But, he would if it was just my dd and me...bags really don't impact that. So, I will have to get a cab, and probably tip the person who gets that cab for me, then ride to the new resort, pay and tip the driver. Then, if my room isn't ready yet, I can just leave the bags with Bell Services, and then tip them when they get to my room. Yep, it's expensive.

Great info everyone and lots to think about. Although I don't need my bags right away and probably wont be in my room till about 3 ish with actual check out time....I don't want to get stuck waiting a really long time.

I like the idea of splitting us up...we will be at the BLT and our first day is MK...so with that said I think I solved my problem!!:stir:

However I still have 3 mos. to change my mind, my ADR's, and everything else!! :rotfl2:
