November or December?

Hi, for first timers, would you say November or December is best? If we do November could we get to see both fall and Christmas decorations? What about weather? We are coming from a cold northern state so would prefer a semi warm vacation. Any advice would really be appreciated.

I doubt you would see both seasons of decoration. The Christmas stuff goes up around Thanksgiving...resorts start a bit earlier than that.
As far as weather??? Dec is a crap shoot. I've been in early Dec for 10 years now. There have been times when I needed mittens at night, not to mention the jacket over the sweatshirt, a scarf, jeans and socks!! When it gets down to the low 50's in central Florida, it's cold!!!
Other times, it's been very pleasant...warm during the day (in the 60's-70's) and down to cooler temps at night when the sun goes down.
If you are looking for a warmer stay? I would go down the middle of November. The crowds should be pretty good then..just avoid Veterans Day! If you go any time from the 10th to the 25th or so, you should get good weather and lowish crowds.

We've done both....early/mid December, and early November. There is something truly magical about the holidays at Disney. As the pp mentioned, weather could be similar or very different - but both our trips were warm (warmer than up north!) and no rain at all. I personally would aim for the 2nd or 3rd week of November (pre-thanksgiving - with some decorations up), or 2nd or 2rd week of December (holidays in full swing).

Thank you! We were set to do first week of December. (Nov 29-Dec 8th) but then started questioning maybe mid November. I really want to see the Christmas decorations, but would prefer not to freeze either on our Florida vacation haha ill have to really think on this I guess ;) thanks everyone!

I'm in the same boat! We are actually thinking veterans week because it would only be 4 days out of school. I'm hoping they come out with the school calander to see if there are any professional days off.

You will see Christmas decorations in mid-November because typically MVMCP will start in early November as well as the Osborne Lights. :)

I just checked and both started last year on November 9th :)

hope that helps :thumbsup2

The first or second week of December IS a magical time at the World.
If we only go once during a year, it's during this time frame. Holiday decorations are wonderful. :cheer2:

I have gone practically every year since 2000, arriving the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

You are guaranteed to see all of the decorations by then; the CP has started, etc.

However, the weather can be very unpredictable.

The Osborne Family of Lights and the Parks are up for the events.

The resorts are not guaranteed to be completed until the Saturday after Thanksgiving; many of the deluxes resorts take a few weeks to accomplish while some just go up overnight.

Yeah I'd be more concerned with the park decorations. I'm debating the Christmas party at magic kingdom too. Is that worth the extra cost? And do you have info on crowds? I've heard there are calendars but can't find it on here.

They haven't released the dates for the 2013 MVMCP yet. I'm still waiting for those dates, too.

Have you been to the party before?

No, I've never been to MVMCP before. I'm trying to find out the dates so that I can make my ADR's around it. :) Last year the party was held three nights in the first week of December and if they do that this year, it will really affect our MK plans.
