hypno therapy and weight loss

A friend of mine was checking out hypnosis to help with weight loss. Has anyone here tried it? I personally don't think I could do it since I really don't know if I believe in it. They think it will help them, but I am afraid of them wasting all this money and only getting results that even a little bit of work would produce. And the hypnosis itself doesn't shed the pounds, you still have to do the work anyway. Plus what if it doesn't work? I am very afraid of what it would do to them mentally at that point. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Well if they think it will help them, then I suppose that is where the "magic" lies, right?

I certainly would love it if someone could hypnotize me to never drink soda or potato chips. ;)

Let us know what happens!

Yes that is true, but I figure you can do better some other way for $2k :)

Like running Dopey? ;)

I have a coworker who did hypnosis for weightloss about 3 years ago. At the same time another one had gastric bypass. Both weighed over 300 pounds.

Both were very strong in their feelings that what they were embarking on the right course for them.

The one who had surgery to this day can not return to work because of many complications and has spent more time in the hospital as a patient than outside.

The one who had hypnosis, it was a nine month program, maintains within 10 pounds of her ideal weight and has the tools to get back to that weight if she needs them.

For hypnosis to work you do have to beleive in it. If she beleives that it will work for her and commits to a program then there is no reason to think she is wasting her money. Some people need help with that willpower and I would think 2K would be a good help.

I was hypnotized last Saturday for weight loss. It was with a LCSW who was recertifying her hypnosis credentials so it was free! First we talked about my goals and triggers. For me I have emotional eating issues at night but I have lost 12 pounds in Jan-Feb and I was ready to work on this issue to lose more weight. I then moved to a reclining chair and got comfy. The counselor explained I would not be in a deep level of hypnosis and first did more of a relaxation guided monologue. A few times I had to move a finger or nod to show I was hearing and responding. The entire session lasted an hour. My usually overwhelming urge to eat sweets at night has been killed. One evening I even had a NY peppermint patty in my hand, realized I did not want it, and put it back. I am amazed. It helps you break patterns. The usual cost is this session was $300.

I got hypnotized April 2008. I was pushing 280lbs, and tried many times to lose weight in the past. Long story short, I am now 190-ish and have run about 10 half marathons and 2 fulls. After hypnosis, I have more compulsion to exercise and don't feel the pull toward junk food I once had.

I just went to a local hypnotherapist...for like $60, I got an hour session and a CD to reinforce the message. I listened to the CD for a month or so, but has been collection dust ever since.

Upon seeing my success, some relatives and friends tried it too (same hypnotherapist), most did not not succeed...so definitely not a guarantee it will work for everyone, but for me it sure did.

Awesome info. They have decided not to go this route right at this moment. Since you still have to do the work even with hypnosis, they are going to try it the old fashioned way. They havent totally dismissed the choice of hypnosis, but if they do it perhaps as others have said, just a couple of sessions instead of a whole 'plan' and perhaps even looking into I guess self hypnosis.
