Does anyone know if the 1 bedroom suites on the 14th floor have an extra bathroom with a shower on it?
Yes they do, and thank you for asking this question! Your question prompted me to look at the one bedroom suite link I have posted on the first page and I noticed that I had linked to a single page view rather than a full page view so photos were missing from her subsequent posts. I've corrected the link and here is the full page link to
Mary T in PA's one bedroom suite photos showing one full bath with a shower/tub and one other bath with a shower stall:

I wish I could offer my experience from last week, but unfortunately I don't really know when my room was ready. While checking in at 11 am, I left my mobile number for them to text me a notification and went off to DTD. Six hours later, still no text. So we went back to BLT and they were surprised that I hadn't received a text since my room was indeed ready.
While waiting at DTD, I was hoping that the long wait meant that they were really trying to meet my request. In the end they did not. Perhaps it was ready early, but I'll never know.
Has anyone else not received the Your-room-is-ready notification?
I have heard of this happening many times, unfortunately and I don't know what causes this and why it even still happens. This would be very frustrating as most everyone wants/needs to get into their room ASAP after checking-in. It's such a shame that if the room is actually available, guests aren't notified promptly of this. I don't know is this is an issue having to do with housekeeping not indicating that the room is ready in the system or if it's an issue with the system that notifies the guests or both.
Last April at WL/CL, we checked-in at 0930 and were told the room wasn't ready, but they would message us. We went to the lounge for breakfast, sat down and ate and less than 30 minutes after checking-in a CM stopped by our table and told us that our room was ready. Great! I told the CM that we never were messaged about the room and she was surprised and couldn't explain why we weren't notified.
Last August when we stayed at BLT, we check-in around 1100 and our villa wasn't ready so we sat down in the lobby right in front of the CR check-in to meet some friends and less than 30 minutes later I was messaged that the room was ready. I think there are some glitches in the system that need to be worked-out. The CMs will give you a business card with a number that you can call to check if your room is ready, in the event messaging doesn't work. I recommend asking for this card if your room isn't ready and calling periodically.
I was going to surprise my DGD9 with out upcoming trip but broke down and told her. She truly loves the planning process as much as I do. I couldn't deprive her of it! Lol
I couldn't ever make it a surprise either since DD/DH like anticipating the trip and helping with planning.
How do you book a deluxe room in the garden wing??
They are listed on the WDTC (WDW) booking site or you can call for availability.
Anyone know what sort of view you'd get from one of the deluxe rooms? Patio/ground floor better?
Deluxe room views are of the garden/pool area/Bay Lake.
Does anyone know what time the gift shop usually closes? We will be arriving late in October our first night and we would like to be able to stop into the gift shop (an arrival night ritual
) but it doesn't look like we will be getting there until 9:30pm - 10pm.
They aren't posted on their door, but I believe they close at 11. If you're staying club level, you could email the IPO for the exact hours.
We are staying on property for the 1st time ever, and couldn't be more excited to be at BLT. We are checking into Bay Lake Towers Lake View, 2 bed villa, on May 11th. We are a group of 6, including 2 grandparents and kids ages 5 and 7. I want to go ahead and check in online, are there any specific requests I should put in for room location?
Welcome and congratulations! Here is the link to a BLT room view/number thread that might help you choose a location:

I do agree that Garden Wing/Garden View rooms seem to book the fastest...I always hesitate booking in advance without a discount, though, because then if they're full before discounts are released wouldn't that mean that there's no incentive for Disney to offer a discount on them? That's quite the dilemma.
For the record, I've never been able to find availability for Garden Wing/Standard View...is that because they put conferences/weddings in those rooms?
Convention bookings are assigned rooms just prior to arrival, I don't believe they actually block out rooms at the time of booking, so you never know what room you might get with a convention booking until check-in.
You are going to love it....but be forewarned. We stayed at BLT 2 br lake view for the first time last fall and now we will have a hard time ever returning to a regular room again! We ended up with a room at the very end if the hall, North side. Many people love it because it has a view of the lake to the right, woods in front, and MK if you really crane your head back to the right. But my parents didnt love the long walk and we couldn't see the ELP. This year I'm just going with whatever the fine folks assigning the room decide to give me! There Really isn't a bad spot and I really enjoyed our last room. So peaceful and soooooo close to MK. But I think if you search there is a whole thread on rooms at BLT with their views in case you have a preference.
I know what you mean, once you stay in a BLT villa, it's hard going back to a STD room size.
