Paying with gift card bought at Target

Since we didn't receive any pins for this vacation, my plan is to purchase 80 Disney gift cards from Target to at least get the 5% from Target... has anyone else used this many? It is going to take me forever to get them through! :rotfl:

It took me 64 to pay for our vacation last year! It is possible so go for it!

By the way if you fill your RX at Target you get a 5% discount card after filling 5 and that can be stacked with your RedCard discount. I did this for our gift cards to get them almost 10% off.

Yup, we are doing this too. But I'm doing it in pieces not all in one shot. I'm buying our annual passes an tickets at the Disney store, I used some for the down payment on 2 room only reservations and used some for gifts I picked up at the Disney Store for an In Room Celebration. So far I've used about 40 and need close to 100 more. The room payment alone will be with about 64 cards. I have been told its not all that uncommon so hopefully it doesn't annoy the CMs.

I must be out of the loop. Can someone explain the target gift card thing to me and how i get them please? Thank you! :)

If you have a Target Debit or Credit card you get 5% off all your in store purchases which includes the $50 Disney gift cards they sell. So you can buy the cards to pay for your vacation and save an extra 5%.

I've only used 12 for a single trip. I called to apply some before we arrived. The first CM I spoke with said she could only do 5 at a time. I called a week or so later and that CM said she could do the 7 I had remaining. I bought a few more cards and applied those at the resort (so I actually used 15 for the trip). Each had to be scanned by the CM.

They have to be scanned even if you pay the trip off at the 45 day mark?

I paid for my upcoming trip with gift cards. I made my payments online and had no difficulty.

I entered them about 10 at a time per day with no issues - it saved me from being on the phone with a CM for a long period. :thumbsup2

That is how I paid off ours.

If you want to use gift cards to pay towards your room charges at the resort you need to do it @ the customers service kiosk located in each of the resorts the DAY BEFORE you checkout. If you do not use them before checkout day the charges go on the Credit Card you confirmed your reservation with.

We just picked up our first two a couple of weeks ago. We will pick up 2 a month until we leave and will most likely use them for shopping or food as are not doing the DP this trip (TIW card).

No. Sorry if I wasn't clear. The cards we used in advance were called in and I had to read off the gift card numbers to the CM. When we arrived, I had a couple more cards and those were swiped/scanned at the resort.

Make sure to keep your gift cards if you pay in advance since any refund for a cancelled trip goes back to the original form of payment. ie. on the gift card.

We have been buying the gift cards to pay off our trip. I called and paid off $1800 over the phone with no problems. Last night, I was able to get online and I paid off $3800 on the website- it took me just under 2 hours but I did it with no problems!! I plan on keeping buying until my trip is paid off and then I will convert my spending money into gift cards. My trip was 9100 and the gift cards are saving $455. It is well worth it!!

You can also buy the gift cards at SAMs. They carry the 25$ and $50 gift cards. You end up saving almost 10% if you buy the $50 cards and save about 5% if you purchase the $25 cards. This is where I buy all my cards because it is much easier since I don't always have the coupon for the extra %5 on top of the red card discount.

I bought 40 gift cards and paid my whole vacation off online in less than an hour. I didn't want to call in and leave it to someone else. I wanted to visually see that each card was being accepted and the balance was going down. You can do that online, but over the phone you are just trusting the CM and don't have a visual receipt. Sat and did it during a tv show and it was not bad at all. Saved $100 on my vacation paying it off with Target purchased Disney cards! WELL WORTH my time and effort in my opinion.:)

How do you save if you buy the cards at Sam's Club? Are they less than $50 when you buy them?

I haven't used that many, but last time I went I used about 20 to pay for my room. I had no issues and I didn't pay all at once, I would get $100-200 and make a payment on the room as the trip approached. Another option you have is ordering Disney gift cards online from the Disney Store, and using the gift cards to pay for larger gift cards. I think you can get $200 gift cards from them, maybe even higher amounts, so you can go online, buy a $200 gift card, pay for it with 4 $50 gift cards, and consolidate them that way.

I'm also curious about the Sams cards. At my store the last time I checked the $100 Disney gift cards sold for only $1-2 off, I didn't even see smaller denominations. In the past I did buy $100 Disney gift cards at Sams for around $99 that came with a $10 GC to the Disney Store but they haven't had those for a while. I definitely have never seen them for 10% off but maybe I'm missing something!

This is a good idea! I wonder if I can do that at the disney store as well. Our balance is due in just 3 weeks!
