Port & Shopping Show

We are going on the Dream 3-day to Nassau and I want to enjoy as much as the ship as possible (this is our 1st cruise) I've read that this presentation is a waste of time since you can catch them on the TV but that they do give shopping coupons, including a free charm with purchase of a $5 braclet 9(or viceversa) at Diamond Exchange. I thought that would be a great souvenir for my girls. Plus you can get a $5 charm at other ports on future cruises.
Is there a way to get the coupon without going to the presentation?

They were handing them out as we left the ship. I have to say, I wasn't thrilled with the bracelet or the charm - looked junky to me. I had thought the same as you, might be a nice souvenir for DD so I wasn't expecting top quality, but it's so "cloudy" looking that I haven't let her wear it thinking she might react. Maybe you'll get something better. And yes, the presentation is a waste of time.

Enjoy your cruise!

Most (if not all) of the freebies you get from the book are junk as well. And you have to be ready for the hard sell to get any of them.

We did it once in St. Maarten and I won't do it again. It was fun getting all the little gems and things for my daughter but once was more than enough for me.

This presentation is an absolute waste of your time. The wife and I were thinking it had something to do with how to bargain with the shop keepers in the different ports. It was nothing but a sales pitch to shop in certain stores that they recommend on their little map. I would bet they made a deal with certain merchants and get some kind of kick back or commission.

At least the time we did it the hosts were not DCL employees. They had DCL name tags but we found out they were actually affiliated with the stores they are promoting.

Bingo! The presentation is not truly to help Disney passengers but to help the local retailers. It primes the buyers and steers them to certain retailers who, I assume, pay some sort of marketing fee.

Thanks I will totally skip it. Hopefully they will be handing out coupons on the way out. We are doing a self-guided walking tour so it we'll be walking by the Diamond International anyway.

What about the ship tour? Anyone know how long it is? Is it worth it or should we just study our ship map?

I enjoyed it and will be having my sister and son do it next week. You hear about some behind the scenes and architecture of the ship.
