So, my bank acct was just hacked and I've spent the morning straightening that all out. I've been advised to "keep a close watch on it" for the next few days. We board the magic Saturday morning.

How expensive is Internet on board? I wasn't planning on checking anything while gone but it looks like I might need to. How do others get online? Phone? Internet cafe on the ship?

Here are the prices for the internet.

Be aware that the internet is slow. The best times we found for using it was late at night (after the last show) or very early in the morning (especially on a port day).

Phone calls are quite expensive onboard. Your phone will use the Cellar at Sea tower and that's $2.49 per minute on top of whatever (if any) charges your own provider will charge. There are phones onboard that you can make phone calls from, but those are even more expensive (I think something like $9.00 a minute).

It's possible to find free (or almost free) internet cafes in port, just ask the CMs where they are.

You can use the ships computers and the internet will most likely be cheaper than your phone charges on the ship.

This last year I had my identity stolen. I quickly signed up wit American Express CreditSecure and they helped me check everything and get accounts closed that was fraud and get things removed from all three credit agencies. They also helped me mark all of my accounts with a fraud alert. They also have alerts that let me know if anything happens on my credit agency accounts. If you had you bank account hacked you might want to check your credit report to make sure they are not opening accounts in your name.

You can usually buy a block if data from your cell phone company. For Verizon it was $25 for 100mb of data. Then $20 for every 100mb you go over.

As a banker, I would highly recommend closing the account and getting a new one. That will prevent anything from slipping through. It can be a pain, but so much safer.

Ditto from experience. Also, you should avoid accessing bank accounts from public wifi.

Thank for all the great info. I never access my bank account from public wifi, so not sure how this happened. We are in the process of taking all precautions

That's what I did when my account was compromised. I was advised to ask for a "hard close" so that it was totally closed. I also opted to change banks just in case. In my case it was a pain because my primary job's direct deposit requires like a 2-cycle change period...but they don't advertise that. So the first check after this went to the old bank and then went back after two days - and then it was not the next check but the one after when I FINALLY got that money. Luckily my landlord was understanding, but it was a tough month or so.
