Have you heard about this little boy?

My heart just goes out to him and his family. I have been following his story for weeks now and I have to say that he has amazing parents. I pray for him daily.

With his story on my mind, I look out the window of my house and see a yard full of huge trees, and tree branches falling has always been a concern of mine. We have a ton after each storm. I remember years ago I heard of a young girl who was killed because of a tree branch falling on her while she was on a picnic with her family. Ever since then it has been on the back of my mind.

Recently we had a bad line of storms what came through our area and a huge tree limb fell onto a church van and crushed the roof. Just this morning while driving out of my drive way I noticed a pretty good size tree branch that had fallen from a tree and stabbed the ground. It's about 7 feet tall standing straight up out of the ground.

I'm so nervous of this now, especially after keeping up with Tripp and his battle to recover. Please watch your family and pray for this little boy.

It may not be something that you think about much but it only takes a second for something to happen.

I have 2 friends on FB that keep up with him so I see the postings almost daily. So scary and so, so sad.

Yes, I think about it because I have a yard full of trees behind my house. We had to cut 4 down this past summer and one fell during a horrific storm last spring. DD and I were out on the porch when it fell and it sounded like the world was ending right then. We were getting ready to run the dogs outside as the rain had stopped and then BOOM! We could have easily been in its path. :(

I do always say a prayer for Tripp and his family. God Bless them. It has been a terrible thing fpr themo

Another innocent victim of hurricane Sandy that most people have not heard of. I've been following Tripp's story since it happened five months ago. Fell in love with that sweet boy the first time I saw a video of him on the local news. My heart just aches for his family and Stacey's post early this morning just drove me to tears. I always put a finger on his little picture and say a prayer.

So sad for that boy.:(

As a FYI to you, you can hire an arborist and they will come in assess and cut limbs that are weak or at risk for falling.

My parents had a summer house in the woods and this was part of maintenance. We made sure to keep the driveway clear. In the 30yrs of having the house we did have 1 incident of the limb falling on a parked car.

Every day, it's a local story here.

I saw him being taken home and was afraid it was a little too early and it was.

Trees are the bane of our existence here in Georgia, they cause so many problems but they're idolized! I deliberately moved to an area with very few trees because of the constant nightmares we had with them falling on power lines, houses, cars and people. NOT to mention I have a really crappy allergy of those darned Bradford pears.

When I read the thread title I just knew you would be talking about Tripp. His injury is so heartbreaking. I have also been following his story for months. It really makes me look at trees differently.

My DH once tried to pull a huge branch off the roof and it somehow flipped and hit him in the head. I took him to emergency where he had to get several stitches and staples in his head. He was lucky that it wasn't worse. We had Bradford Pears and those are the worst when it comes to this type of thing. Some trees rarely lose branches.

My heart goes out to the boy and his family.

I know, it is so tragic. I pray for a full recovery for him every single day! They posted a picture of him today from the day before his accident and he just looks so precious. It just breaks my heart.

I didn't know how this happened to him. So this was during hurricane Sandy? I had no clue. I just started following a few weeks ago.

I've been following Tripp's story & praying for him & his parents as well... so, so sad & heartbreaking. He's such a precious little boy; the pictures of him that have been posted are adorable.

I believe a tree limb fell on his head while he was playing outside at daycare on October 29, 2012. The following is taken from their Facebook site...

Some of you might not even know what happened the day of the accident...He was playing on the playground at daycare and a huge limb fell out of a very high tree. It fell on his head and crushed his skull into many pieces. They took him to Winder-Barrow hospital and then flew him to Egleston Childrens hospital in Atlanta. As Bill and I were driving to meet him in Atlanta, I don't think we spoke 10 words to each other. We were scared and we just prayed. We honestly didn't know how bad it was.

I guess maybe the tree could have been weakened by the storms which caused the limb to fall, but Hurricane Sandy is not mentioned in the description on Facebook.

Yes, the high winds were a by product of hurricane Sandy as it was making it's way to the northern states where it did all the damage there.

Thank you both. I had no idea what had happened, just that he had been hit by agree branch. It's awful.

I follow this story in FB. It is so frightening. Before the accident (and still) he was an adorable boy. So sad to have this happen to him.

His parents seem like wonderful people. They must be completely exhausted.
His future looks grim right now. He has so much support that if anyone can make a turn around, he can.

There is another little boy in need of prayer for the very same thing

Please pray for him and his family.

Just a couple of nights ago we were walking down my driveway and we heard a loud crack and then a hard thump. I knew it was a tree or a tree limb falling in the woods beside us. It was so scary! After hearing the stories lately I really wish I could cut some of our trees down that are close to our house.

I follow Tripp's FB page, he is just the cutest little boy ever! I look at his updates every day. I recently had some tree pruning done around my house after Hurricane Sandy, but sometimes and accident is just that 1 in a million unavoidable thing.

What a heartbreaking story! We have two almost century-old trees on our small lot and DH doesn't entirely understand why I'm in such a hurry to get rid of them, but they lose small branches every time we have bad weather and I feel like it is only a matter of time before something big enough to hurt someone or do serious property damage comes down.

I've had a weird not-quite-fear but nervousness around trees for a long time, because when I was a teenager I was heading out in not-terrible but mildly stormy weather and a branch fell on my car. It shattered the windshield but fortunately the weight of it hit the hood and passenger seat, and I had my glasses on instead of my contacts so the windshield debris didn't have a chance to get in my eyes. It isn't something I spend a lot of time thinking about, but when I'm driving on a windy or stormy day it does cross my mind.

I too have followed Tripp's story, but I have to take breaks from it - too much heartbreak. About a week ago a Minnesota woman was killed by a falling tree that had been recently inspected and nothing was found wrong with it. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/52417278/.../family-identifies-woman-killed-falling-tree/

I am surrounded by trees on three sides of my house and I hate it. They go down all the time... just waiting for one to come through my bedroom roof one day... The house is going up for sale on 8/1 and I have already told my husband our next house isn't going to be surrounded by trees!

Perhaps everyone in such fear of trees should try for some perspective. I'm not trying to say what happened to little Tripp and others is anything but horribly tragic, but c'mon. Millions of people in the USA alone live around or work around or pass by/under big trees every single day and nothing happens to them. I'll bet you are a lot more likely to be killed or injured in a car crash than by a tree or tree limb falling on you.
