Disney will buy back at 80% of current value??

Thought you all might be interested in this thread on another board. Talks about DVC sales pitches to Fort Wilderness campers. One person said a guide told him/her that if they want to sell Disney will buy back DVC at 80% current value. Hmmmm.

Hmmmmm. I don't think so. We asked our guide before we bought if we ever needed to sell, would they buy it back? He said no, they don't buy contracts back. They TAKE them back through forclosure, non-payment of dues and ROFR.

Maybe someone should set the people on that other thread straight before they start to believe that garbage.

Maybe the guide is talking about ROFR. I don't know. Or maybe the person misunderstood. Who knows. I just found it interesting.

Oh it is interesting. Thanks for pointing it out.

I just get a little steamed when there appears to be guides telling lies. It gives DVC a bad name.

Sometimes it isn't the guide but what the buyer/potential buyer thought they heard.

There were some reports a few years ago of Disney offering to buy back contracts. They were only interested in BCV contracts and offered $55 per point if I remember correctly. At that time, BCV contracts could be sold on the resale market for $80 to $90 per point. After the 10% broker commission, the seller would have netted $72 to $81 per point by selling on the resale market. Disney's offer of $55 was about 76% of the lowest resale value (after commission) at that time.

If you had a contract at a resort other than BCV, your only option through Disney was to give the deed back to them in lieu of foreclosure, essentially 0% of current value. Some folks who are underwater due to financing their purchase have taken that offer.
