This is our first DCL trip. The beach excursions through Disney are filled for Grand Caymen. We want to go to the beach. Any suggestions or tips on doing our own beach trip. We will be traveling with my husband and two children.

I'd head to 7 mile beach which is only a short taxi ride away (5 min?) If you go down away from the Marriot towards the Ritz the beach is better. We've been to 7 mile beach for vacation as well as on our cruise. It's such a great port for heading to the beach because it's close and the water and sand are beautiful.

Where do you get the cab? Where do you get a cab to get back? How much is it? Is there facilities (bathroom, changing room)there? We have never left the country before. My husband is a little nervous. Any information you can give me is helpful. I am afraid he is gonna not want to leave the ship when we get there. I want to take full advantage of our trip.

Cabs are available at most every port and very often you can arrange for them to pick you back up. If you are sticking to tourist spots cabs are usually around.

If you're concerned about venturing out on your own, take a Disney shore adventure to the beach. The ship will not leave without you :-).
However, there are plenty of cabs. Do not worry ! And they'll be there at the beaches waiting to take you back to the ship. The closest beach , maybe 10 min. From the ship is Royal Palms. There are restrooms, chairs & umbrellas, food & drinks. Seven Mile Beach is one of the prettiest beaches in the Caribbean. That's one port I would not stay on the ship ! And we've cruised many, many times !!!:beach:

I second Royal Palms. Clean bathrooms, beach chairs, and a bar. They also had food but we ate on the boat before and after the beach to save $$$. PLENTY of taxis to and from the port. GC is very easy to do on your own. The island is safe and you can take a cheap taxi to the beach (4-6 pp depending how far u want to go), there is also a public bus that drives down the length of the beach it costs $2.50. Do not stay on the boat..... this island is beautiful!!

Thanks for all your feedback. Sorry it took me so long to check this. But you guys have helped us. We will be venturing out on our own.

You will have a great time & actually save quite a bit of money!
Good luck!

We were on this cruise over March break. We have three small children (4,4,7) and ventured out to Seven Mile Beach on our own! This was our first time on a cruise as well! There are several taxis waiting at port to take you to the beach - it was $5 per person each way. Once at the beach, there are several different areas you can chose to stay - we went to surf side - there is a bar selling drinks and food, clean washrooms, chairs and umbrellas for rent (chairs were $8 each and umbrellas $2). The beach was beautiful - a bit crowded but this was March break. We found the waves a bit rough for our little ones, so would probably choose a calmer area closer to port next time. Once we were ready to go, we just went back to the area we were dropped off, paid our $5 and they dropped us off back at port. It was a very smooth port day, we felt safe the entire time and most importantly had fun!!

Thank you again. Your information was so specific. It will calm my husband's nerves. I am getting excited. Three weeks from today we set sail.

We will be in Grand Cayman in a few weeks and were wanting to find a beach with waves for our older kids. Can you tell me more where this spot is? Is it on 7 mile beach? Where would we tell the taxi to drop us off. Thanks for your info!

Does anyone know what section of the beach has the inflatables in the water? I saw pictures on TripAdvisor but they didn't say where.

7 Mile beach is great, and easy to get to/from. Only thing I'll add is if you're going to hang out there all day and eat and drink, things can get expensive pretty quickly. The USD isn't near as strong against the KYD as it is on other islands, so it's not uncommon to pay more than you would in the US for certain things (beer, hamburgers, etc). A bunch of people on our cruise in January were shocked to see their tab at $200 or more by the end of the day.

Also, when you get back to the port, be sure to pick up a bottle of Totuga Mango rum. It's absolutely delicious, and I can't wait to get back to GC to get another one. :-)
