Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

I saw this on the DVC site this morning and I thought I would share, looks like DVC members are going to have a shot at early registration..

Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend
Date: Jan 8-12, 2014
Member Early Registration*: April 3, 2013
General Public Registration: April 9, 2013
Discount: $10 off per person for the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, Goofy Challenge or theDopey Challenge
DVC Member Code:DVCRUNDISNEY
Code Expiration: June 18, 2013

Says to check the member site on April 3 for the registration link!!

Awesome! My friend already booked our rooms so it's just a matter of waiting for DVC registration to open up.

I called in to rundisney. I saw it mentioned on a running blog and wanted it confirmed. However, I can't seem to log into the ap site right now. Are they switching to a new site?

I am having trouble logging into the AP website also. Hope there are some instructions on Wednesday! I would love to sign up early.

Most definitely you can enter. You will need access to the member site or have him forward you the URL for the site once published on 4/3. It will have the same look and feel as the regular Active site. At the coupon code spot add the DVC discount code and away you go.

With regard to AP and Visa, I would bet the farm on having an early entry again this year.

Awesome. Thank your and AB6876 for the info!

Okay, the area is a little different than the last time I was there, the year WDW opened..and it was just a magic kingdom....

Moderate level resort that transportation is not going to be difficult to figure out (concierge level would be lovely tho.....). pixiedust:

What do folks recommend?

The only moderate that has anything close to concierge level is coronodo springs that offers a business class level that has light snacks and drinks! I personally love port Orleans in the alligator bayou section for the woodsy feel. Edited to also say transportation from all resorts are provided for marathon weekend!!

I was planning to do my first goofy in 2014 but the peer pressure has gotten to me and now I'm really excited for this inaugural dopey challenge. The miles are certainly going to be challenging but I'm most nervous about training to wake up so early four days in a row!

Love PO for a moderate hotel! Although I lean towards French Quarter over Riverside. It's a great location for access to restaurants and the post-race party.

In the price quote I got POFQ was hands down the best value. We really like POR as a resort but we had major issues getting to the half marathon from there in 2012. I think I remember people having similar issues in 2013. We didn't have issues getting to the full in 2012 though.

So a couple random questions about this year. I'm guessing there aren't answers at this point.

1. Do you think the monorail will be running early enough to get to the 10k start? In prior years they run it early on Saturday and Sunday but not on Friday.
2. Are they going to have to change the finish area for the Marathon? It seems adding the people to give out the Dopey medals to what's already going on could make it crowded-er.

can you PM me as well....asked an agency for a quote for a "moderate resort" room today and received a 495/night room offer back. :badpc:

ARRRGGHHH.

Would you mind PMing me the info as well?

PM's sent to you both

If anyone finds out anything for sure about the AP early registration/discount you should let me know. :P

I just got my pass a few months back and I'm still figuring all the stuff out. :-/

thanks!!

I have the same questions!!! Hopefully they will let us know sooner rather than later.

We don't know any definites about the 10K yet, but the official press relase states that the 10K will be at the Wide World of Sports. My guess is that they tweek the marathon route a bit and have the 20 mile timing mat in the Wide World of Sports. Then they can use it at the start of the 10K and the last 6.2 of the marathon will be the 10K route. If this is the case then the monorail won't be transporting people to the start of the race on Friday. As far as the marathon finish area, they will probably just add a Dopey area to the Goofy tent area.

Obviously, all of this is speculation.

It does? The version I have near the end of this blog post says it will be at Epcot: http://healthydisneyguide.com/rundi...isney-dopey-challenge-but-were-afraid-to-ask/

"After the Disney Family Fun Run 5K on Thursday, runDisney’s new Walt Disney World 10K, a 6.2-mile timed event, takes place Friday, at Epcot. Runners completing the race will receive a Minnie Mouse inspired medal."

Here is the official press release

If you scroll down to the bottom they list all of the event dates, time and location. The 10K is slated to begin at 5:30 at Wide World of Sports. The breakfast is at Epcot so definitely will finish there. The start is just my speculation.

Yep, that's exactly the same press release as I put in my blog post... I'll be interested to see if you are right. It certainly makes sense, logistics-wise, but I really hope you are wrong. Since I will have run 4 Wine & Dine's by then plus marathon 2013, I'd like to cover some new territory instead of the same old thing!

I wonder what the hours are going to be for the expo on Wednesday. Normally I arrive early on Thursday like 9am but this puts a cramp in that as I will have to fly in Wednesday afternoon/evening due to school.
