Just back from Magic!

Have just returned from the Magic 6 day out of Galveston. We all had a great time. We were delayed leaving as there was fog in the morning and a maintainence vessel was not able to arrive until 4pm. We sailed around 8 pm.
I missed sailing out of port and watching land fade away.

Port of Galveston is pretty primitive. I'm glas we arrived after 2 pm. There were no chairs if we would have had to wait. No Disney decor like in Port Canaveral. The area surrounding the port is pretty industrial and not very scenic.

Son, 15, rated Vibe as excellent. We saw him at dinner and in the morning as my DH and I left for breakfast. He made many friends and was always anxious to get up to Vibe. DH and I had a relaxing and fun trip. We spent a lot of time in the adult pool area. I was a bit disappointed at all the children running loudly back and forth as well as the number of parents who brought kids into the coffee shop and let them run around. I don't expect that area to be kid free - but noisy, rowdy, not well behaved kids were more plentiful than I would have liked. Same with the amount of kids allowed to run free in the dining room while servers are walking around with full trays dodging small bodies. And this was at the late seating!

I have sailed the Magic 6 years ago. I did not see any bad wear and tear. Only normal things...a stain on a carpet and a bit of rust on our navigator veranda. Our cabin (7626) was awesome. Love the aft location and especially the 'secret' deck just doors away from our cabin. Our toilet room did have a bit of an odor which our room steward (Casper) did his best to eliminate. Otherwise, the room was great. Would stay in it again. We also had an funny towel monkey swinging from the curtain one night!

Food was wonderful. Quiet Cove had great coffee and tea and the staff there were very attentive. Had brunch at Palo...yummy!

Night of the pirate party was very windy and wavy so the fireworks were delayed until the next night. A little cooler than we would have liked at sea and in port, but Disney can't control the weather! Still went snorkeling in Caymen and did the Xrail off road adventure to Jade Cavern in Mexico. Fun times for all.

Plenty of Tervis cups for sale (I got the large one and love it!). Thank you to the poster who recommended bringing Command hooks. They were well used and much needeed. I recommend attending the Disney Vacation Club preview...informative plus I got some cool freebies (a pad-folio with mickey motif on the inside; very nice string bag and some light up bracelets).

We booked a cruise for next year and got the on-board discount and credit. They assigned it to my TA at the same time.

Feel free to ask any questions.

First I watched the Magic late departure on Galveston Web cam, it was the fuel barge Magic takes alot to keep it moving. We arrived the night before our cruise, eat at Fishermans Warf right next to cruise terminals. The next day easy park and drop off of way to much luggage. Were greeted at door by Disney person with a four fingered glove who said have a great cruise. Decore at terminal was Temp. DISNEY, but Disney music was playing and big sign Now Boarding the Magic with Mickey on it. Mickey in Capt atier greated us at top of esculator. We had 11:00 am boarding. We were number 5 group going on ship we had nice chairs in waiting area to sit in for about 30 min wait, daughter signed up granddaughter for her club in boarding area.
I have to say I did not take the cruise for the terminal. We live in Houma, La. And it was a 5 hour drive that made it very nice. This was our first cruise and other than not being able to do everything they offer can't think of one thing to complain about.
PS I sat in adult area for a large part of trip. We never had a problem with kids, only ones i asked to move was my own granddaughter and her group who were on scavenger hunt and stop to write on a table. There are elevators inside the spa enterance and many people use them including kids. They have to walk through adult area.

:wave2: We leave for our first cruise (ever!) out of Galveston in a few weeks so thank you for your review. Hope you do not mind me asking, but did you take DCL transfers? If so, what did you think of them? If not, did you rent a private car? This has been our biggest challenge! Thank you!

We leave on April 20th and have a group of 7. I checked every single manner of transportation from Hobby and settled on renting a car. I even checked whether or not a train was possible....it is not!

It has proved to be an impossible (and frustrating) quest for us as well.

Since we are coming in the night before I do not think DCL transfers were possible. The cost for the rental car plus taxis (to and from rental car location in Texas City) was less than the cost for a private limo service. Also our flight home does not leave until 5 so we will be able to do something before we go to airport.

Thanks for sharing about your trip. I'm happy to hear there were lots of Tervis tumblers for sale. We'll be in Mickeys Mates the first night of the cruise to get a couple!

I'm also hoping to get to the DVC talk this time. Missed it on our first 2 cruises.....not enough time to do everything!

We took the DCL bus. It was easy to use. Disney personnel met us outside baggage claim and walked us over to the area to meet the bus. I have used DCL bus for all our cruises and never had an issue. They play Disney programming on the TV the whole way there including how to check in once you get to the terminal.
