So do you think I should contact Mem. Satis. again?

I read this thread with interest since I am about to become a first time grandmother very shortly.

I, too, remember reading something about Aulani delegating a hot tub area for adults only. Perhaps that has not been done yet. I know they were recently doing construction, but I am not sure if that is done, or to be finished soon.

I will have no issues taking future grandbaby to children only areas anywhere at Disney, be it on the cruise line, at Aulani, or any resort on site. We always took our children on Disney vacations, and were not of the mindset to pad the childrens shoes so they would meet height requirements, or not sneak them into adult only areas. These rules are done for their own safety.

And that is how I view the hot tubs - for their own safety, as well as a little child free enjoyment for some adults. If Disney wants to allow children of certain ages into them with parents in there, too, then by all means designate some to include children (with their parents supervising).

And if Disney designates even one hot tub for adults only, then I have no issues with that either.

We middle aged (and elderly) adults were once young parents, too. I see in some people an attitude of entitlement at times, and it is not about letting children participate in every single activity on site, because it is "Disney". It is about teaching children that some things come with maturation, whether it be driving a vehicle, entering the adult only areas on board ship, or entering perhaps one hot tub at Aulani, which is designated for adults.

DCL does it nicely, and it works, most of the time. I raised my children and scurried around beaches and pools after them for many years. Now, when I cruise I enjoy spending time on Serenity Bay on Castaway Cay (for adults only). If we cruise with grandbaby, we will move ourselves over to the family beach and enjoy this new stage of life, as well. And perhaps give the new young parents time to rest from baby watching, too.

This is the Circle of Life, and please do not bash those adults seeking a little child free hot tub time at a large resort such as Aulani. I think they have earned it, and there are plenty of other pools, tubs and activities for the children there.

Let us know how you make out, Diane! :)

Just another vote for support of adult only hot tubs at any of the resorts - Aulani makes even more sense. We have young children and have no problem teaching them that there are areas off limits to them until they are adults. We are dealing with generations that have no idea about delayed gratification (i.e. want a song - download it in 10 seconds.) Personally I am saddened by parents that seem to have the inability to say no, but I guess that will be their problem as those kids get older.

My DH and I choose to travel on DCL because they have adult only zones for trips that are just for the two of us. If they didn't, we would never choose DCL for our getaways. I have to say, Aulani's appeal is much less for us to try based on that one picture of the crowded hot tub.

It would be interesting to see the demographics of reservations at Aulani - how many families, how many just adults. I guess only Disney has access to that info.

UPDATE! My second letter to Mem. Satis. elicited a phone call from them Sunday afternoon. They asked if I had a photo, and I do, so they asked me to send it to them. I sent them the one I posted here on the DIS last month when we were at Aulani. We shall see what happens further.

That is hopeful news!

:worship::worship: A perfect post:thumbsup2. I could not have said it better.

I think it is absurd to think people will not go back to WDW because their children are not allowed in an adults only designated hot tub.

My neighbors were in Aulani last month and said it was beautiful but would not go back because of the hot tub issue. That seemed a bit extreme to me but then again I do not go to Chef Mickey's because to the (insane JMHO)circus like atmosphere and would not go back to WDW if that was the only dining atmosphere available. That was how they felt the pool and hot tub area was, which is great for families, but no option/place for adults to relax is not good.

And that fact about no specific place for adults was what I addressed in my communications with MS. It's very expensive for most of us to just travel to Hawaii, and Aulani is relatively isolated. If you want a nice relaxing vacation at what I consider to be a fantastic resort, then Aulani is that type of resort. The fact that you can't find a nice relaxing hot tub does indeed take away from that experience. I suspect it will keep people from making multiple return trips to Aulani.

The verdict from our family after the trip (we were all adults) was that Aulani was a wonderful resort that would be many times better if there were some free adult areas, and that our favorite part of the trip was our week in the private condo right on the shore on the Big Island in Kona. When we considered the cost of the points we used for Aulani, our condo week was less expensive.

Lol, so it can happen one way but its inconceivable that it could happen the other way?

I think we are all in agreement that we are facing a very real problem: kids are ruining disney!

I think it would be smart for Disney to cater to adults and children. Most of Disney is kid friendly but they need to address the adult only segment of the population too.

IMO lounges and bars should be adult only, higher end restaurants should try to seat adults away from families, and hot tubs and quiet pools should have hours for families and later hours for adults only.

As I posted before, Disney is big enough for everyone. :goodvibes

He said he advises every one of his customers NOT to ever use a hotel/resort room jetted tub without making sure they sanitize it themselves. The water from jetted tubs never fully drains from the tubing from previous bathers and needs to be sanitized ..otherwise you are literally taking a bath with whomever used that tub before you.

Blech!! Is there a throwing up emoticon??

I have to say, I don't know that I'll ever go in another hot tub/jetted tub again. Like Ever. LOL

We only go in the jet tub in the room and only after I have thoroughly cleaned and sanitized it myself.

I warn my kids not to go in the tubs and find myself monitoring them constantly when the other kids are using the Hot tub.

Can't be too careful today!!!

I haven't read all of the comments but I worked in a pediatric setting for 20+ years. It is very dangerous for children to be hanging out in hot tubs because children cannot regulate their body temperatures like adults can.

I'm all for at least one adults only hot tub because I personally don't like to sit in a hot tub with kids jumping in and out, splashing, and swimming around in it. If they want to play or swim they should be in a pool or a sandbox

Its mostly annoying because 90% of the children I have seen using the hot tub are completely unattended and there is no parent there to keep an eye on what they are doing.

Children who are attended are usually a little better behaved.

At a minimum they need to make sure that children who are using it are attended to and maybe have stronger signage about the dangers for children. Although those that abuse it to begin with probably ignore it or not read.

Most places limit them to 12 and above, I was thinking Disney did too.

Me too. I don't know where I've been, but I thought they already were off-limits to children. Obviously we've never taken our daughters in one, nor, based on the premise of this conversation, do I have any desire to now. I don't really want to get in one myself anymore.

This is the picture I sent to MS. I had a better one showing both levels and more kids, but I can't seem to find it on my computer. I had an issue with losing a bunch of my Hawaii pictures, and it must have been among the lost ones.

Well, I can't say that that's an overabundance of children, or adults for that matter, in total, but I still stand by having a section of the resort that's for adults only.

They do it on the ships, and for an "all inclusive" type of resort that this sort of is, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. As long as there are plenty of places that are for everyone, it shouldn't hurt their business.

Although the baby in their would bother me, only because of poopy diapers. Ewww. I mean, kids in diapers aren't allowed in the cruise ship pools either (supposed to be at least). I saw plenty of kids in swim diapers though, and they were never asked to get out of the pools while on our cruise.

And 3 times, yes 3 times, in one day we were asked to get out of the pool so they could sanitize and clean it. Which means some kid pooped in the pool or their swim diaper. 4 times total while on the ship, for a 1 week cruise.

That you know of, lol (I know, not so funny).
