This might be hard to explain, but i will give it a shot.
Last week, while at DCA, we decided to eat at Taste Pilot's Grill. Decent food and easy to feed the kids here.
We all decided we wanted Bacon Cheeseburgers, but the only burger with bacon is the one with Blue Cheese spread. I was ok with this and ordered it, but the wife and two boys did not want the Blue Cheese. I asked if I could order a basic cheeseburger with Bacon...the CM said sure, no problem. Cool!
So the total order was:
1 X Blue Cheese Burger (I thnk it was like $10.49)
3 X Cheese Burger ($9.99 plus the charge for bacon)
2 X Large Coke
and the total was.....$79.00 !!!!!!!!!! What????
I said "there is no way that is correct" CM said, "yes, it's correct, you ordered bacon and that is extra!"
Huge line in back of us and I did not want to create a scene. I would look at the receipt when I got to the table.
I did look at the reciept and by my calculation it should have been around $50.00. So I finished my burger and went looking for a manager. The manager came out and I explained the problem. She said "but you ordered bacon!" I said, yes, "I know, and am willing to pay, but surely bacon does not DOUBLE the price of the food" She said," no, it's like $2.50 each burger".
WOW, but ok, its Disney, they do price gouge, but that still does not add up to the almost $30.00 difference.
She said, "I will show you, give me a second" and she went inside and rang up the order again with and without the bacon. With Bacon the total was $78, witout the order was $52!!! She claimed this proved her point. i said "yes, the problem is obviously with the bacon, but surely you are not trying to tell me that bacon cost $26.00 !
She now looked confused and very concerned as she suddenly realized that there was a much bigger problem then one complaining customer. Upon close look at the receipt, the line with the 3 burgers looked someting like this:
3 X CHBR
+ BACN
+ BACN
+ BACN
So basically they charged me that outrageous price 9 times! (3 burgers with each burger having 3 orders of bacon!)
I pointed this out, it probably should look like this:
3 X CHBR
+BACN
She said that they had been all trained to do it the other way. She promptly refunded for all the bacon ($26.00) and apolagized. She then said she had to immediately call her boss as she now has a huge problem.
I'm not mad, they did the right thing in the end, but it was amazing that this seems to be either a huge training issue or a huge order entry systems issue.
Moral of the story. Even though we all know it's expensive at Disney, pay close attention to how they charge you.
