If you buy an annual pass online, is it good for from when you bought it , or when you first use it. or are they a calendar year?
Thinking of purchasing them individually for the familly over the next few months, for next winter- I know regular tickets start once you get there, but wasn't sure about the passes?

Annual Passes start on the first day you use them and "the year" also starts on that day.

Not quite correct. They are valid until the same date the next year that you convert the voucher (or exchange certificate or will-call reservation) to a "live" AP. For most people the date they convert to a live pass tends to be the date they first use them. However, some people may do the conversion one or more days prior to first use, so this can be significant.

Yes, if you convert it to an annual pass and don't use it that day - you are absolutely correct. I don't know anybody that goes to Disney and converts a pass and then doesn't ente.r the park on the same day, except for maybe Florida residents. I saw her question as when she bought her Annual Pass (like at the Disney Store, etc.) and then took it to Disney World at a later time. :)

Yep...you buy the voucher and then convert it over once you get to Disney.

As an example, I bought annual pass vouchers from our local Disney store in July to beat the ticket price increase (did the same thing last year and will mostly likely do the same this year). I held onto the vouchers until January and had them converted to actual Annual Passes in Downtown Disney (before I actually went to a park since I was booked in a room on an AP discount...so I needed the AP to check in!). The passes are good until January 2013. :)
