Okay, I've scoured all of the threads about packing, etc. I found a 28" Heys suitcase at Target and am confused regarding rolling, etc. I have a large space bag and was wondering if our stateroom hostess would allow me to use the vacuum at the end of the cruise. Any advice is appreciated.
This is our first cruise and I'm trying to only do one checked bag and the rest carry-ons. It is myself, DH, DS (9), DD (8), and DS (6).

It's unlikely that you will able to use the room host's vacuum at the end of the cruise. If you need space bags, you should look into the ones that you roll the air out.

Space bags are great if you can have access to a vacuum cleaner with a hose. I haven't found those available in hotel rooms. I still bring my bags with the valve system though and roll them, sit on them, etc. to get the air out. Works pretty well.

We use the really large zip lock bags and they work fine. Roll them up and seal it up and "unroll" it.

Just remember if you are flying, the "vacuum packed" cloths still weigh the same, you can just get more into your suitcase. And airline charge a LOT extra for over 50 lbs (sometimes only 40lbs)

Yes, be careful of this! My husband notoriously pushes the limit and we have to reshuffle items. His suitcase is the same size as mine, but always weighs much more. We've finally decided that while his is a better quality case than mine, it actually weighs more (the emty bag itself) than mine so he ends up able to pack less. We aren't able to use the vacuum bags because that extra space translates to pack more which then weighs more.

No weight limit for the cruise, but if you have to fly to get there.

Enjoy your cruise!
