If available, will they let me PAY to upgrade to CL at check in?

I know people have mentioned that occasionally in the past they have gotten a huge amount of pixie dust and were upgraded to CL when checking in.
Although I am not expecting that, I am wondering if there is availability, can you upgrade at that point and if so, would it be full price? Has anyone done this. I am thrilled to try the Boardwalk on our trip in a few weeks and have been reading all about CL and sort of wish I had just splurged and booked that yet now it is not showing availabililty. Any thoughts?

Sure, you can pay to upgrade any reservation at check-in, as long as there's availability. Expect to pay rack rate.

Yes, I guess they would take my money if they have availability huh? I guess I really meant would it in fact be Rack Rate or do they sometimes offer a discount when it is last minute like that and they have not filled the CL rooms?

I haven't heard of them offering a discount for upgrades. Be prepared to pay rack.
Keep an eye on the web site, cancellations do happen. If web site is showing no availability then there won't be at check in.
It would be better to just watch for cancellations. Then phone to upgrade with what ever discount you have.

If a room is available, yes you can book it, and it generally is not discounted. We have tried this multiple times at the GCH (at Disneyland) because CL was sold out when I booked our room, and a CL room has never been available. I guess it's rare that they open up. Good luck, though! I figure it's always worth a shot and it can't hurt to ask when you check in. :)

Now do you pay the difference between rack rates or if you got 40% off would you have to pay the 40% you saved plus the difference between rates?

Here's what I think would happen.....

If it's a room only reservation, and you have only paid the deposit (no matter what discount you have) they will raise the nightly rate to rack rate and credit you for what you have already paid. Pretty much the same thing if you are paid in full, they would raise the nightly rate to rack rate and credit you the total amount you have already paid.

Given it is showing NO availibility, my guess is if they had anything you would pay rack rate .

As others have posted, it would be better for you to watch and try to upgrade prior to your visit. More likely to get it, and possibly with your discount.

We have been able to upgrade a few times at check in, and usually with the same discounted rate. If we are quoted rack, we politely decline. However, we haven't tried in the last couple years and that may not be the case any longer. I have heard you would do better to call CRO even on the day of check in to ask to upgrade - much more likely to get it at the discount, if a room is available.

Good luck! I hope you are able to snag that CL, if it is what you really want. And don't despair if you can't, we alternate between CL and regular rooms, it's all good. You can always order room service with the savings.:thumbsup2

peteykirch - if you upgrade your whole reservation to a room that is quoted at rack rate, you will not get the discount. You will simply be charged rack for the stay. As outahere posted, your bill will have the amount you have already paid as a credit, and then you will see each night's rate listed as a charge - with a balance to be paid at the end of the stay. (or whenever you hit the resort maximum)

It may be worth a quick call to CRO now to check. We are traveling in early May and I called on a whim the other day and was able to upgrade to CL within my (now expired) PIN discount (at AKL). Good luck!
