May 2013 Car Rental - Best deals?

I was able to get $105 / week for a full size at Dollar with the 'City deals' (start May 4th). Anybody know what Dollar charges (if any) for 1 additional driver (spouse)? I'm picking it up from the Orlando airport location.

Great thread!

The $105 is before taxes and fees?

I think that 1 additional driver with Dollar is $10 a day, but I am not sure. Try a new dummy booking to check the price.

The $105 was before all fees and taxes. My reservation is for the first two weeks of May for a total of $300 (so $150 a week).

Also, I tried another reservation and paid a little more attention for the extra driver fee and found it on step 4 --- it's $11 a day.

If you signup for free Alamo's program and find Alamo about the same price than Dollar, it may be better to go with, because spouse is free to add as an additional driver with Alamo, when you are signed up on their insider program.

There should be some more companies that allow spouses to be added free of charge, but I don't really know which ones.

dollar just went down again. 87 with change for a lock and low car for May 15-18th 4 day rental. Never rented from them but willing to try anything once

I just did the city special as well for a mid-size (DW and I don't need the full size). $104/week (before taxes, etc). Came out to be $182 from May 11-18. I'm usually a National/Alamo guy but that's out the window at this point.

Keep checking I got the same dates for 167 a couple weeks ago and I have been watching them jump up and down. Please let me know if you get a better rate or a good one at one of the other two.

I just booked through Dollar and got a rate of $185.17 (with taxes) for 8 days. Really good rate for May 8-16

Not sure I'm in the right place, but I'm sharing our corporate code for Avis if anyone can use it. It's Q3197067, and it's for 30% off the lowest fare. It works up to a full size car. My husband travels for work, and he and other employees have used this all over the country. Occasionally it doesn't work someplace, though. I know it works really well in Oakland and Salt Lake City. :) None of us have ever been asked for ID. It's a pretty small company, and there isn't any companyID.

I just rebooked with Alamo and have a midsize for May 10th-20th 10am-3pm (eleven days) for $210.77 all taxes/fees included, using the Alamo Insider, Costco code 7014627, and visa coupon AD2338FDF. That's $19.16 per day, compared to the $22.75 per day you are paying at Dollar.

Edited: Well, just went and put your dates in, using the exact same codes I used and the price jumped to over $400.00. I thought there is no way it would jump that high in just a few hours, so went back and put my dates in to check. I once again got $210.00 for my dates. That doesn't make sense. The only thing I changed was the dates (backing the pickup back one day and moving the drop off up two days). We'll be down there the same week but I am flying in on Friday morning and out on Monday evening, so will be there three more days than you, yet my rate for Alamo is almost half what yours would be? Maybe, because of the specific days I'm picking up and dropping off the car? Anyway, I just checked going directly through the Costco Travel site and found a midsize through Enterprise for your dates for $187.35. That's using no other codes, just booking through the Costco Travel site.

I bet you are getting great weekend deals thats a great rate for you :)

I booked Alamo for May 11-20 for a full size for $204.79. Not sure I'll do better than that, but I will keep trying!

What code and discount did you use?

Alamo rates down another $20 from earlier this week. Still not as low as my lowest reservation, but only $15 off. Codes using is Insiders, Visa $30 off ad2338fdf. Best of Luck

National renters, check your rates. Mine dropped $12 today. Not a lot, but, every bit helps.

Right now, we have a mid-size SUV reserved for $212 for 8 days

What the heck! I just checked Alamo again, using these same codes and the price has jumped from $210.77 to $557.79 for the exact same dates and car. Going through the Costco site it's $540.00.

We just decided to add a day and go on the 10th instead of the 11th, so I revised through Alamo using the Insider rates plus the Visa coupon above, got a Full Size for $190.91. So cheaper than my original deal for one additional day - thank you Aubriee for the coupon code! Maybe we'll see you in the garage :cool1:

Edited to add - we decided to stay one extra day (DH just loves it when I keep adding "just one day" on either end of our trip) and when I went to modify the reservation it jumped to over $400 for the 10-21. So I called and spoke to them, they were able to modify it to only charge us an additional $17 for the extra day.
