DAY FOUR, SUNDAY DECEMBER 2ND, PART SEVEN
When I left off it was about 1pm and I was expecting Steve to arrive around 1:45pm. I got in my room and started up my laptop so I could download the pictures I had taken so far. After a quick change in shoes to more comfy flip-flops and a bathroom break I got a text from Steve asking where at the resort I was. I looked at the time and it was only 1:14pm!! I grabbed my KTTW card and headed out while asking where he was. He made some vague comment about the food court and shop being nice so I headed that way. I walked into Everything POP and looked around but didn't see him anywhere. I got my phone out of my pocket to call him when he came up behind me and scared me. Not that I was surprised as he tends to sneak up on me often. After some hellos and hugs I started showing him around POP Century.
This is the first part where I was a bad DIS-er, as my camera was still in my room so I absolutely no pictures as we walked around the resort for a couple hours. He was surprised by the size of POP and that there were multiple buildings. Overall he was impressed with everything he saw. Around 4pm we decided to head to DTD for some dinner and to walk around. And by we I mean I decided and he was fine with it, since he had no knowledge of WDW. I found out later that day that when he was in the Navy he and several guys stopped in while driving past on their way to their base (after docking) and went to a park for an hour. He remembered nothing about it and I don't think they did any attractions at all. From what I got I think they stopped in MK though, since he knew of the Castle there.
Here is where I was a bad DIS-er for the second time. We went up to my room so I could grab my wallet, since I had only run out with my phone and KTTW card. I grabbed my wallet, and left my camera on the table once again. Oops.
We took the bus to DTD and got off at the Marketplace. I told Steve all kinds of facts about WDW on the way there, and it is safe to say he was overwhelmed. He had no idea the size, scale and scope of WDW, and was very impressed. We weren't quite hungry yet, so we walked all the way from the Marketplace to La Nouba at West Side, with me still spouting off facts and information along the way. He had the most adorable look of complete amazement the entire walk. He truly had no idea about how much there was to do and see at WDW.
We headed back toward Marketplace and decided to have dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express. I do have a few pictures here, from a previous trip and one from the internet for his meal.
I ordered the cheese pizza:
Steve got the Cavatappi Chicken Alfredo (picture via Google)
He must have liked it, as he finished it all! I explained the
DDP to him while we ate and he was once again amazed. I was only able to eat half my pizza, so I got the other half boxed to go. For dessert we both got the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake, which was delicious!
Once we were done eating and I had the rest of my pizza boxed up it was time to start heading back to POP. We had some time though, so we (read as
I) decided to take a round-about way there. We got on the boat to POFQ. We were the last ones on, and the skipper was HILARIOUS!! When we tried to get on he looked at my box of pizza and held out his hand and was quite dejected looking when I refused to give him some of it. He cracked jokes the whole time and made fun of me quite a bit, but all in good fun. He even made a point to give everyone a life jacket but me, because I refused to share my food with him.
He also just made general jokes along the boat ride about Disney and "facts" that no one knew.
When we got to POFQ he tried once again to get pizza before letting us off, but then thanked us for taking the jokes so well. He really impressed Steve, who also enjoyed the jokes at my expense. But when I explained how wonderful the CMs are at WDW he thought that was really cool too.
We walked around POFQ for about 10-15 minutes, which was nice for me too since the only other time I was there I got off the bus stop in front of the main building, got Benoits and then back on the bus so no exploring. We both thought the resort was gorgeous, and made our way to the bus stop after walking around.
While waiting for a bus to MK my sister Lisa called. My uncle had to be rushed to the hospital and was in very bad shape. He was actually told in October 1999 that he wouldn't live to see Christmas. Obviously that was wrong, but he does have a ton of health problems and had crashed that morning. He was in a coma at that point and they were still running tests to see what was wrong. I was even happier at that point to have Steve there, as I wouldn't have wanted to get that news alone. He was great and kept me calm and helped me to feel much better about everything. I did post about my uncle's whole saga here, but if you didn't see it or don't remember he is home and doing okay again. Still has a ton of health issues but doing well for his health.
The bus to MK came within 5 minutes and there were almost no other people on it. I think there were only 2 other families. We were on a bus to MK just to transfer to a bus for POP, but coincidentally the bus we were on was heading to POP next, so we didn't even have to get off that bus! We made it back to POP around 7pm and it was time for Steve to leave.
I walked him to his truck and we talked for a bit and he said next time I came down he wanted to see more of WDW with me.
He was bitten by the Disney bug!!!! (hence the title!). I was very sad he had to leave, but glad he got to come for a little while and enjoyed his time at WDW. He left around 7:20pm. I walked back to my room to get all of my things, because despite being sad that Steve was gone, I had plans that night!
NEXT TIME:
NEVER DO THIS TO JACK SPARROW!!!!
