Add us to the list please! Just booked a standard studio at Jambo for me and my sister Sept.18-26.

So excited. I always thought AKL would be out of our reach, but now that you lovely folks here have taught me about renting points I can't wait until we get to check-in there in September.

I'm mainly a lurker but I made through version 8 of this thread and caught up on this and I can't believe how knowledgable and friendly you all are. Thank you for all the info and helping make my dream of staying at AKL come true.

HELLO HUMANS!!

(OMG I really did do Monsters Inc Laugh Floor waaaaay too many times this trip!!) :rotfl:

Just back a few hours ago from a wonderful AKV stay. AKL was my favorite resort before this trip, and still is. We rented points for standard 1BR & had 5574 -which was savannah view but had that "people pen" right under us. Who can tell me what that is again? We spent a lot of time on the balcony enjoying the animals (and humans) but never once saw any activity in or around that pen. Saw every animal & bird from the balcony - especially one morning around 9:15 when a man came & rang a bell - it was like watching Noah's ark. The animals seemed to come in groups, in single file, to go through the gate! Zebra, giraffes, ankole cattle, kudu, gazelle, ostrich & many more. LOVED IT! The location, even if standard, was perfect for watching animals, but a HIKE from the lobby. It was in the very last section of the resort, fartherest away from the lobby as possible. I had the owner request near pool but hey, a request is only that.

Its hard to believe I was at AKL just a few hours ago, and am now sitting here with snow outside! Boma breakfast was a major hit as always. The rest of the family said they could take or leave Boma dinner, but I love it & will be booking it again! We got pizza & wine (very reasonably priced wine I might add) at The Mara. DS15 got a Swedish massage at the health club. We LOVED the hot tub by the Uzima Outlook - it was always empty. We were there after midnight twice (shhhh posted hours are til 11pm) and it was soooo peaceful...you could hear the birds & animals on the savannah every now & then. Man I wish I was there right now!

I will get some pics up once I upload them to Photobucket tomorrow.

We haven't stayed at AKL since 2010 and didn't do all that much exploring. We stayed at Jambo House on the same floor as the lobby and pretty much lived on our balcony any time we were at the resort. I remember seeing some activities but when we went in 2011 and stayed at Wilderness Lodge they had nightly movies outside - is that only at resorts with a "beach"? We didn't participate bc DS was small and tuckered out. Is there popcorn or snacks for sale? Are the s'mores I saw in a previous thread still done at AKL? If they are at AKL are they at Jambo and Kidani or just one (which one)? We are planning for more time to enjoy the resort this trip, so I'm trying to make sure we do some of the fun activities.

They do movies at both and roasting marshmallows at both. For a sample of the activities from February, check out Easywdw(dot)com and go about three or four pages back in the blog. There is one entry to Jambo and one for Kidani. Both times he took a picture of the activities board which talks about the flamingo feedings, pool games, movies at the pool at night, evening animal encounters.....etc! So much to do! In case you can't tell, we are ALSO planning some quality time at the hotel this next trip. Can't wait to see everything AKL has to offer.

Now someone please tell me, what is in a zebra dome????

Those pens are in case there is a fire - people can escape out onto the savannah to be picked up but they get corralled until they can be retrieved since running into the savannah wouldn't exactly be safe either! ;)

Welcome Home, Tara! Glad to hear you had a wonderful trip -- sorry you returned home to snow. Darn Sam Champion just said Spring won't really be here for half the country for a couple weeks yet. :(

Can't wait to see your photos! :thumbsup2

So glad you didn't see anything in the people pens! :rotfl:

Now someone please tell me, what is in a zebra dome????

Zebra Dome is a delicious dessert you must try during your stay! They are on the dessert pod at Boma dinner or you can buy a pack of 5 in the refrigerator case at The Mara. If you buy the refrigerated Domes, allow them to reach room temperature before consuming -- they have a melt-in-your-mouth quality! ::yes::

Oh gosh, now ANOTHER website I'm going to have to read....and re-read....top to bottom. Seriously! Great resource - thanks for sending!!!

Scary isn't it...

Wait, Zebra Domes are only on the Boma Dessert buffet at dinner! I was hoping they were out at breakfast too :(

Wife already had you put us on the August list for going, my question is if the concierge room deluxe rooms or all standard size... Just curious as we are seriously looking to up grade soon for the adult children that will be accompanying us..
