Photo Sharing: Pentax

Thanks Mr. Terry! I'm sure loving the K-5. I just ordered the 40 f2.8 XS to make the camera really small. I picked it up on Pentaxforums for $145 shipped.

Going through photos from the K-5II and IIs that I have, I think Pentax put a really weak AA filter on the II. I cant really tell a difference when just looking at them on my PC.

Have you had any experience with the Tamron 70-200? I know you use the Sigma.

No I haven't used the Tamron 70-200. When I bought the Sigma, I wanted the Hyper-Sonic Motor (HSM) for faster sports focusing.

I know the Sigma is nice, i owned one when I had the D5100 a while ago. I owned the non-stabilized version which I thought was sharp but I hated not having stabilization. I was just wondering if I could save some money and get the Tamron. I have the Tamron 17-50 and it focuses pretty quick.

Wow great to see some fellow Pentaxians! Harry, great work! I'm actually in the market now for a 70-200, I have the DA* 50-135, great lens with fantastic reach, but I am hoping that a Full Frame is on the way so I want to start stockpiling the FF lenses... here are some of my recent pics...

Thanks! I really enjoy your photos as well. I'm leaning towards the Tamron 70-200 as my next purchase.

Back in December, I bought the D600 and a few lenses thinking I couldn't pass up the deal when the D600 was $1996 with the 24-85. I ended up selling it because I got tired of dealing with the sensor/dust issue and the camera just didn't feel good in my hands.

When I first started shooting with the K-5II I realized how much I like it. The IQ is pretty darn close to the D600 but the build and ergonomics are awesome. No plastic! I always thought the photos with the D600 just didn't look realistic to me. The WB and metering are much better on the K-5. I think skin tones and texture look better to me. I will be looking and waiting to see if Pentax does a FF.

I agree, Pentax really has a great Dynamic Range that seems to capure the nuances of the skin tones with ease... heres antoher one that I did a wee bit too much softening under the eyes with....

Today, the DW and I had a meeting with our bosses from the Speedway about the upcoming season. We were provided with our copy of the 2013 Chicagoland Speedway/Route 66 Raceway Calendar. I was surprised to see one of my images used! It was a crop of this photo of our mascot, Dash, used along the side of the calendar (November).

Its exciting when one of your photos is used alongside those that you respect as being some of the best in the business.

Congrats Mr. Terry! I really liked your last post of the Bel Air (I think) coming out of the burnout box. That one was calendar ready.

Thanks Harry! When I got back into photography (after a long layoff) I never thought I would be doing what I'm doing. I have been a very lucky and fortunate person. One of my favorite sayings is," I've never been asked to sit on the Cubs bench, the White Sox bench, the Bulls, Bears or Blackhawks bench, but with the racing I'm right in the middle of the sport!" Its been a great ride. This season is going to be exciting!
