March 2013 Car rentals

I had an Alamo rental from 3.27 to 4/5 pickup and drop off at the CCC for $335 intermediate. Today, $199 with pick up at MCO and drop off at the CCC! Now, we don't have to wait on ME!! Check out carrentalsavers.com

That's a great rate! I just want to say that I hate Alamo's new website.

3/21 - 3/29 I got $246 today for a midsize SUV on Alamo using code 66777D. I found the code on Flyer Talk.

For spring break that is the best rate I've found.

I also have a ressie with Budget for $316.

Not sure what to do, stay with Budget or go with Alamo and this unknown code....

If it will allow you to book it, the code is fine. It also includes CDW coverage. I would keep the Alamo reservation and cancel Budget.

How do you know it includes CDW coverage?
Do you know anything about the origin of the code?
I would love to hear from someone who has used the Alamo 66777D code.

Same here. Plugging it in, it comes up as "ASSOCIATIONS PL STANDARD." The rates are fantastic, but I'd be afraid I'd need to show some kind of identification that I belong to whatever Associations PL Standard is.

Easy, cause I made a mock reservation and it stated that CDW was included. I used that code and it took it quite happily. It also states what the code is, but, I forgot. Do a mock reservation and see for yourself.

In all the time I worked for Alamo, we never ever asked anyone for any proof of any code they used. Now, if you plugged in the code and got to the breakdown of charges, you should have seen that CDW is included.

Here is a reservation I just did. Not a very good copy and paste, but, you get the drift.

I have used this code as well as made reservations for friends at MCO. Never an issue, great rates.

I agree - thanks, everyone, for all the help! People here really are the best. Suddenly, with that new Alamo code, I'm looking at $285 for 3/21 - 3/30 for an Economy WITH CDW, when just a couple of weeks ago, my best rate was well over $400. Too bad I can't get any coupons to work, too. I get all "Capacity check - Coupon is not available" errors with everything. Oh, well.
Oh, and I was disappointed to find it's an additional *$10 a day* to add a second driver. Guess I'll be the one doing all the driving for the week!

I just read that if you are an Alamo Insider, your spouse or family member with the same address can be added at no charge. My concern is that you might need to stop at the counter to add them? With this code, I would like to use the Kiosk, just in case. I am also keeping a backup reservation, just in case. Here is the info I found on Mousesavers:
"With Alamo, all additional drivers will pay a daily fee of approximately $10 per day unless they are traveling with relatives who are members of Alamo Insiders or have a Corporate Contract Agreement.
Alamo Insiders members in the United States are allowed to have the following additional drivers without a fee:
Member’s spouse, common law spouse, or domestic partner who has the same address on the driver’s license as the member and who meet normal renter requirements.
Immediate family member, Mother/Father, Son/Daughter, or Brother/Sister who has the same address on the driver’s license as the member and who meet normal renter requirements.
All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily charge. The additional driver can only be added to the contract at the pick up location."

I gave my wives info at the check out gate. I have never used the counter.

Actually, that info is a bit incorrect. That is more like the National policy for additional drivers.
From the Alamo site:

Additional Driver Fee / Alamo

Is there always an additional driver daily fee? How much is it?

Any additional driver (including a spouse or domestic partner) will pay a daily fee of approximately $10 per day.

Fees are waived for additional drivers who are:

· Members of Alamo Insiders Program; which allows for one additional driver to be added at no cost.

· Corporate Contracts in the United States are allowed the following additional drivers at no charge:

· Commercial (corporate) rentals

· The renter's business partner

· Employer or fellow associate, who has a signed corporate contract with Alamo and drives the car for business purposes and who meet normal renter requirements.

All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily charge.

An additional driver may only be added to the contract at a rental location and may be added or removed in the middle of the contract. When adding an additional driver in the middle of the contract both the renter and the additional driver must be present at the location.

The system will calculate the charges based on the dates the additional driver was listed on the rental.

You can also do this at the kiosk. At the exit gate they will want to see both people and both licenses and what ever other information is requested at the bottom of the ticket you get out of the kiosk. It is better to do this at the kiosk or counter as it does hold up the line at the exit booth and the people who have gone to the kiosk or counter really get annoyed (and take it out on the exit agent) when they have to wait, yet again, to be on their way.

Mouselovers, I'll give another disclaimer. I know you all don't want to hear it, but I'll give it one more time anyway. You'll be listening with your wallets, so feel free to ignore...

There is a difference between using valid public codes and "finding" codes in places like FlyerTalk that, frankly, you will probably get away with using.

The FlyerTalk code some of you may be using may be perfectly legitimate and public. In that case. you should feel free to use it. However, my guess is it is not a public code. The red flag to me is that it includes CDW. To me, that sounds like a corporate code of some kind that some organization has negotiated with Alamo for use by their employees or affiliates.

Can you get away with it? Probably. Alamo at MCO does seem to be very lax about checking credentials.

Personally, I would never use a code that I couldn't backup. I don't know the workings of codes as to whether the organization that contracted with Alamo has to pay something additional per rental. My guess is probably not.

I will say this, however. Use the code if you like, but you better be really sure you don't get into an accident if that CDW is "covered". Drive carefully.

I recall I did do it at the kiosk too, I also was able to have her info in the old website. The gate attendants have always asked to see her license as well as mine, very quickly too. Always a great experience as well as all of your advice from your previous employment.
